Disney+ is about to be rudely awakened by the sound of marvel subscribers leaving en masse.
They removed large amounts of old content and cancel new…no reason to hang out there now. They ruined star wars as well…
(Hmm. It says 2 comments, but I see none.=)
Anyway,
Series vs Specials is a mixed bag.
It seems they need to retell some of the background in movies when it occurred in a TV show or special.
I was a bit lost in Dr Strange not caring much about the Wanda character and not having seen the Wanda TV series, so I can see the negative impact on movie goers there. I think that’s where moviegoer dissatisfaction really started to increase.
No one wants to pay to see HALF of a story. I’m not going to buy a ticket if I feel like I won’t understand or be fulfilled by a movie.
If people think “Oh, this is a movie only for those people who have disney+” ,
How does that affect ticket sales??? If you limit your possible audience to only those who have Disney+, is that a good idea??
It would be better if you didn’t have to PAY to see these shows…maybe put them on ABC like they did with Agents of Shield .
But even then, as mentioned in the article, there is still a large time investment having to watch 30 or 40 hrs of TV shows about characters you may not care about, just to understand what’s happening in the next movie. That’s a very very thin tightrope to walk.
As usual, idiot Iger is asking the wrong questions.
Its not “do audiences want to see sequels of superhero movies”.
The question is…”WHICH heroes are people willing to pay to see??”
What an idiot! I can’t believe he makes all that money! He thinks one size fits all.
I might be VERY interested to see an Ironman or Spiderman sequel and care NOTHING about a Thor or Ms Marvel sequel.
In addition, being forced to WAIT and wait thru all of these UNPOPULAR hero movies and sequels, while chomping at the bit to see the next Spiderdude sequel is Very frustrating as well.
I won’t even get into the possible implications of rumors about replacing Peter Parker or Clark Kent with a more “inclusive” type of protagonist.
The reason Disney has lost all those subscribers and the latest releases in general not just the Marvel movies, the reason is the same as to why Bud Lights Anheiser Bush is losing money at an increasing rate every month. The forcing on “liberal” and even “alternative lifestyle” content has both parents refusing to allow their children to see the content and many (more to come if they keep it up) many have canceled Disney Plus…
All the Disney+ shows mentioned were female leads. And none are truly popular with long track records of success. Instead they draw on modern Marvel comics which are increasingly woke and don’t sell much.
It must be “fashionable ” for viewers to dislike anything after Endgame. Has any one even watched Secret Invasion? It is, by far, the best Marvel offering since Winter Soldier. Great story, great tone.
Too many shallow critics out there thinking they need to be negative to have a voice in the discussion.
The shows have largely been better than the movies especially as of late but maybe in general for the franchise minus the heavy hitters such as the Avengers films, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Captain America sequels, maybe Homecoming, and Black Panther.
Obviously opinions will vary and mine may well be in the minority but I am left wondering what Disney thinks I’m going to pay them over a hundred dollar a year for. I have very, very, very scant need for their catalog. I have most of the Disney that I’d want, I have all Star Wars and Marvel (minus the shows and specials).
I guess they are just going to sunset plus and I can drop when my current membership runs out.
We were counting on Iger to get the the train back on tracks but he seems just as out of it and reactionary as Chapek at this point just in a different style.
I suspect that some of the gimpyness at the theatres beyond the products themselves is that the movies are known to be just a few months (or even weeks) from “at no additional cost” and should only be available after a normal theatrical and video release window.
Right now a movie has to be a cannot wait affair and surely has to be a grand slam home run or beyond for any repeat viewing.
Anyway without original content for Star Wars and Marvel Disney+ is a dead app walking for me.
There’s no fatigue, give actual seasons of series, 10 or less episodes are getting ridiculous, comic series have tie in issues where shows could have a tie in episode… you want us to literally wait a whole year for 6 more episodes to a 6 episode season… it’s literally a joke and a half ntm the prices of movie theaters is so over priced now
Speaking for myself and my husband..we love all superhero movies, will watch all shows on Disney+ and Max.
We do not goto movie theaters because they cost a lot, the drinks, popcorn etc..
When we can sit in our comfortable chairs, eat everything we want at home.
That’s why we love Disney+ and Max.
The series have been much stronger than the recent movies, so this is a worrying development. Disney+ sub from day one, maybe about to be cancelled and not it the woke sense. Star wars series have been great as well, let’s not even mention the last 3 movies. Has Kathleen been sacked yet, just asking?
