Exceeds Box Office Predictions – well if those predictions were it was going to bomb – then it did exceed those expectations. In terms of revenue the original predictions was for $125m opening, over the month and half after the Cannes disaster the estimates were lowered, lowered again, lowered again, lowered again until it got down to 60m – less than half the original estimates. The 4th of July poured rock salt into the open wound when $14m Sounds of Freedom, from a tiny production company, with near no marketing knocked IJ5 out of the top spot that it held for only 4 days. Its done now, once Mission Impossible opens IJ5 will be a distant yet painful memory.
Since the box office estimate were over
$125b and it did only $60, I guess by “exceeded” the author means the predictions about how bad would do. It certainly did exceed those predictions. To pour salt on that open wound Sounds of Freedom , a 14m$ budget from unknown production company showing on 1/2 the number of screens – knocked Indie 5 out of the number one spot after only 4 days.
