I hope that is not true, if it is somebody dropped the ball. Mickey is the center piece of Disney. If someone else has it then whoever has it should be avoided for all time because Mickey is Disney alone!

      That sucks oh well

I am also wondering if someone just dropped the ball or if it was planned ahead of time. All long time dedicated Disney fans will be wondering!

It’s BS. They still have a trademark and the copyright they’re losing is to an old design. Disney are not retiring Mickey Mouse

What’s next are they going to drop the disney name and just call it park of whatever location it happens to be in like call it california park and Florida park

Can’t they get congress to do another extension maybe a permanent copyright. After all Mickey did help with the war effort during WWII. Mickey supported all our soldiers. Mickey was there whenever we needed him. Mickey was the magic, joy, happiness you experienced whenever you walked into Disney World or even just thought of Mickey. I’m not crazy I know Mickey is just a cartoon but a cartoon that has done so much for us. Mickey and Disney are one. Mickey is American as apple pie so congress shouldn’t have a problem giving Disney a permanent copyright!

Only the Steamboat Willie version expired. The one from 1928. The new version of Mickey is still in the hands of Disney!

Here is the secret. If Mickey Mouse is public domain Disney can use it. Just like they used all those public domain stories to make animated films. All this does is mean that they are not the only ones that can have Mickey Mouse. And I’m sure Disney would want a permanent copyright after all they’ve practically destroyed copyright law to keep a hold of it.

MIckey will always be associated with Walt Disney. So if others copy him, customers will still recognize as the symbol of what Walt Disney created.

This is the perfect opportunity for Disney to Turn the 1928 version of Mickey into his Long Lost half Brother”Ricky Rat”( Born out of wed lock when Mickeys’ father Once was employed in City Sewer maintenance. Ricky’s favorite line..whenever he sees his half bros serenity in life..”Awww RATZ”

    That sucks oh well

How I read this is that they are letting the rights go of older Mickey Mouse image. They aren’t going to get rid of Mickey. Others can use that image freely without recourse from Disney. They are not getting rid of Mickey Mouse.

Unless it makes others think of Disney because then it infringes on their Trademark which runs in perpetuity

I love Disney and Mickey Mouse… and can’t imagine the parks without him. I would be broken hearted to have a mickeyless park.

Mickey is the icon of Disney! He’s the most famous animated character of all time. If Disney loses his IP, they lose their mascot and I really hope that Mickey will and forever be the face of Disney

Us Congress can move their butts and do the right thing here!! I think Walt is spinning in his Urn.. Don’t let some AI jerk get their hands on Mickey..God knows how they’d use him!!

The older version of mickey mouse expired. The version of steamboat Willie. The new version so far I know is still from Disney!

Is Disney trying to lower their stock share value? Has leadership disguarded the vision of Walt and Roy? Leadership does appear to make decisions that creates a lot of negativity and little inspiration for their repeat customers, which have been very loyal.

Mickey Mouse is a staple myself, my children, and nieces and nephews all grew up with this amazing piece of childhood. You cannot phas out the mouse. He is and always will be, but most of animators and imagineers with the Walt Disney company this was in their portfolio to get hired and show their talent. Both my children were raised on the mickey mouse clubhouse and the wonderful world of mickey mouse. If there is anyone in the Disney company looking at these comments please let your company we are heartbroken and concerned. Mickey was the first real character that they met when they went to Disney and to erase this would be hurting this soul.

  12. Walt

Mickey is Walt. When Roy Disney opened Magic Kingdom at Disney World he asked that Mickey Mouse come up on stage – Walt’s “counterpart” Of course Iger was willing to give up the Copyright on the old versions of Mickey – bit by bit by bit completely change the company until it is unrecognizable. I will say it again and again and again with Iger and this board of directors there is no hope for Disney.

  13. Who cares? I’m not throwing a pity party for Disney. They’ll find other ways to profiteer off of this event. Disney will not go broke. They have more money than the pope.

I grew up on Disney. I call myself a Disnerd all the time. Mickey Mouse was the first Disney character I truly fell in love with. Seeing him go will be a huge loss for all Disney fans alike. He’s what started Disney. I’d hate to see him be the end of Disney as well!

  15. Karlee Himmelspach

Mickey was going to stay forever it’s not the house of Mickey Mouse just the copyright right?

  16. Annoyed

Why do people keep posting this bs? They still have a trademark, and it’s only the original design of the mouse that is losing copyright and they’ve not used that for years. Honestly, shut up.

Wtf is with this comment section?

Permanent copyright is unconstitutional. Public Domain doesn’t mean it disappears, it gives other people the chance to use mickey mouse the same way that Disney used every other public domain characters in their history.

Are you guys brainwashed by disney?

Unless this comment section is being sarcastic and I missed it.

Wow, this is proof we are indeed living in tha last days, rivers flowing from tha ground un tha middle of a desert, tha great Euphrates river almost all dried up as it says in book of revelations, & now Mickey Mouse’s copyright is ending, now anybody will have tha right to use him for free, I have this theory or thought that they are slowly taking away such things like stores, food places, & then eventually maybe even sports getting prepared for thier great reset, notice how they’re trying to make a society w/ no physical money & want people to do everything online, & stay inside…im just saying its tha end of freedom & free will as we know it
