While I am in total agreement that erasing slavery is a horrible thing, the accusation of such for this movie is ridiculous. After all, this movie is about a MERMAID who gets turned into a human by a MAGICAL OCTOPUS. If Ariel was blue or green, would this even be an issue? And why is it an issue at all, when the entire movie is so fantastical. If you want your kids to know about slavery, there are better ways to teach them and better movies to watch, or books to read, than this new version of The Little Mermaid. People need to chill and just enjoy the film, please.
Can anyone be happy? Song of the South, even though the movie is set in the years after the civil war, and the characters are not slaves but sharecroppers, gets erased from existence because it depicts the times of slavery, the classic song zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah, gets erased from existence, and an attraction gets re-themed for the exact same reasons… then someone complains that its’ not right that the live action version little mermaid does NOT show have those scenes in it so we don’t forget that is happened?
