People have lowered expectations when it comes to streaming services vs $20 a ticket, $12 a popcorn and $8 soda trip to the theater.
So a mediocre movie can be a success on a streaming service while being a failure in the theater.
Who’s going to pay a small fortune to go to the movies to see some cartoon full of preachy crap? Very few. Fire the executives making these “creative” decisions. Bring back the old Disney!
Publicly traded corporations are driven by dollars. In fact, they have a legal obligation to make their decisions with the impact to their shareholders and valuations at the fire.
TL;DR: the execs are making diversity efforts solely for the good of their bottom lines.
Take it right over the top Blackstar – use the word “hate” right off the bat – that will lower the temp. You don’t get the “hate” because Disney is pushing your world view just like all the other woke crap companies
LGB folks aren’t the ones with the agenda. It’s the Alphabet people who are the problem. I have several LGB friends who are concerned about the Alphabet people ruining their reputations. They are NOT groomers and they don’t try to sexualize children.
I will never pay what a movie costs to see a Disney propaganda film. If you want families to invest in your movies again, give them a reason to. Stop playing politics and go back to the innocence that people want their children to enjoy. It is no longer enjoyable to watch a Disney film.
So did Disney send this to you as is to print or did they just provide you list of bullet points and you came up with the story?
The movie is not doing well because it’s bad and not due to marketing or release schedule issues. The other major film released, THE FLASH, is doing bad also so THE FLASH is not hurting ELEMENTAL’s box office sales, ELEMENTALS story is doing that.
Agree.. streaming does kill off non-linear television and cinema period. So many things are heading towards in creating what’s more “convenient to us”, and it destroys the soul of how we use to anticipate for some TV shows, new movies in cinema back then, getting hype up + able to enjoy it (the interest value drops) with > “I can watch it myself, anytime, anywhere I want to”. By having “convenient” in our life it certainly pays a huge price which it changes our behavior and also how we value things nowadays. The more convenient it becomes, the lesser value it is how we appreciate things as a human being.
Going to movies is no longer an AFFORDABLE outing. Even with special pricing like Senior Discounts, one the ticket is purchased and you buy your snacks (a small popcorn, a small soft drink, and a candy you like (at exorbitant prices) you have already paid the price for a monthly Streaming Service; that’s for ONE person, times that 4 for a family, and you could have purchased TWO monthly Services.
Then there is COVID, it’s still out there (probably always will be) seeing a movie in the theater (any movie, not just Disney) is not worth the expense, or the chance of getting ill.
Saw Elemental with my kids. Not impressed. Visually it is very good. Character wise so-so. Storyline was bland. My kids were OK with it.
Turning Red was a B level movie at best. Encanto was not very good. It amazes me how Disney’s marketing can inflate a fair movie into so much more.
They should produce big movies for the theater and ones like Luca and Coco for streaming. Similar to the direct-to-video days.
People need to stop complaining every time Disney announces something new whither it be a new tv show, a new movie and a new live action movie and they need to learn to accept change. I’ve seen the trailer for the new Elemental movie and it looks like something worth watching. All this hate and negativity needs to stop
Really doesn’t matter if they find their following on streaming… they make their money in theaters, not streaming. Streaming is what the people who want this woke crap pay for because they can’t afford a movie theater with no job.
Like it or not, Disney is no longer a 100% trusted brand. A lot of families have adopted a wait-and-see approach. Hence the lukewarm response to its latest “children’s” movies. The more Disney puts adult themes into its children’s movies, the more cautious a large group of parents will continue to be. It will be hard to regain that audience’s trust. This is not a defense, just an observation.
Are we talking about all of those “hit” Disney+ movies that they had while at the same time losing 4 million subscribers?
Covid is over now and the vast majority of people are back to getting out and doing things. Disney can’t afford to continue tohave crazy high budgetted movies break even or even lose money.
If they don’t want to collapse, they better get back to good story telling.
U can’t compare these new films to classic cults like treasure planet. The reason these films weren’t theatre successes is for one reason. Disney wanted to fly them below the radar bc of the characters or theme. It’s easier for them to be progressive and now lose the rights support.

How does that explain all the terrible movies that do really well in the box office then?

Don’t forget how much it’ll cost to get to the theater. 😐

I like the movie elemental. I enjoyed the story, I enjoyed the characters, I don’t get the hate.

Not wanting to be preached to does not equate hate.

The copium on this one is real. There’s a non-binary character in the film and parents are tired of Disney’s gruming efforts.

If streaming was not a thing then the movie would have done much better in theaters. Streaming has basically killed the theater 😔

This movie is a flop because parents are sick of Disney trying to push their sick ideology on our kids.
