Animated cartoons are not the special event they used to be. They have become far too common and are constantly having new ones every few months. Plus Disney is being punished for their work policies that is why the other movie studios are succeeding more.
I feel Disney is like Bud light. They have forgotten who their real audience is. When was the last animated Snow White? Animated Bambi? Consider me old fashioned, but I use to go to movies.
Their main audience is kids. They don’t have your nostalgia. Snow White was cutting edge when it came out. Elemental is today. It may not be a perfect movie, but I can tell you it is doing better than Snow White style animation would do.
Considering the first film was released in 1937 and the second one was 1942….well, you are definitely old fashioned. If they’re counting on the same audience that saw those movies maybe that’s the problem, since most of that audience is dead (statistically speaking).
In reality the issue is likely just the opposite. Pixar burst onto the scene with Toy Story and took animation by surprise and paved the way for what we’re seeing now…but other studios have taken that idea and expanded upon it and improved it. Pixar made waves by making something different, then were afraid to make anything different again (which may be the Disney effect after acquiring them, of course, since Disney has never been huge on taking chances once something has proven to be a successful formula). Other studios have put out better films since then–the last Puss in Boots was great, and Across the Spiderverse (like it’s Oscar winning predecessor) is brilliant. Even the new animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie looks interesting precisely because it’s not a formulaic Disney or Pixar-looking film.
When everything is pushing an agenda, those that disagree will respond with their purchase decisions. If they are already paying for D+, they may watch anyway, but they won’t pay for movie tickets. That explains the streaming/theater discrepancies.
Disney is struggling because they don’t have a good story to tell. They are out of touch in movies, tv and the parks.
That’s why it’s not doing well. Disney purposely snowballed the movie by putting all the marketing budget into The Little Mermaid. They advertised that movie months in advance over multiple mediums. There was almost no advertising done on Elemental, at most Disney marketed a month or 2 in advance that’s why no one really knew. Animation isn’t the issue because the Spider-Man is the number movie in the world. It was basically guaranteed to win because of it’s affiliation to Marvel even though they also had minimal marketing. The movie industry is a real gamble even if you play your cards right a movie with great potential won’t do well. This movie was made for kids of the 21 century and that doesn’t sit well with some people but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good movie.
my guess is people have stopped going to Disney films because we are no longer entertained but rather subject to the latest political indoctrination instead. we are a long way from the “wonderful world of disney” if the past

Sticking politics into everything has killed Disney. The brand is in the toilet. Until they return to strictly family-based, woke-free traditional entertainment. expect more of the same failure.
Until they go back to regular cartoons for children (their real audience) they won’t be successful. We aren’t going to take our children to see their social preaching. We won’t go see their woke agendas either. And try using the same % of what the population looks like. Every character doesn’t need to be black, Hispanic or middle eastern anymore. It’s okay to still have white people in your cartoon movies and real people movies also. Quit remaking the classics and come up with some new material.
Maybe you need to change your HR interviewing policies to hire people with talent rather than people with an agenda
Not protecting what John Lasseter did, but, since he left Pixar the movies have all gone downhill. He must have had a bigger impact on the movies than realized. It sounds like Pixar is in need of a leader that knows it’s audience.
I recently read where Pixar’s entire staff reviewed a film prior to release. Recommendations were made to improve the film. It appears this style is gone. Pete Doctor should know better.
That all said, it appears to me that Disney/Pixar is more concerned with a message rather than telling a good story.
Look at the movie thru the eyes of a child and they should be able to get back their audiences.
Luca was not a commercial flop, it went directly on Disney Plus and was a huge hit staying on its trending page for almost 2 years, and Luca 2 is being released in 2024matt
Their movies amd shows are failing because they decided to become a political advocacy rather than an entertainment organization. All their decisions are considered wrong by the overwhelming majority of fans and yet they still try to appease the interest groups, therefore they fail.
I’ll keep saying it. Not everything Disney will make will be a “classic” and that ‘s ok. If your a Fan of Animation we need Disney , for better or worse, doing what it has Always done , make MAGIC.
I think the minority, which they are so eager to please, are the only ones who care about their hidden agendas. Stop trying to push gayness for the minority and make some entertainment for the majority. We don’t go to the movies to be part of an agenda, but to get away from the real world for a bit.
Disney decided they wanted to become an activist group instead of a entertainment group. They actively shrink their audience every political stance they take. People used to trust the movies would be high quality and safe for kids.
A lot of people don’t want kids being indoctrinated with sexual messaging or political platitudes. They used to address major issues in a aesop’s fables type of approach. Now they find a political message and build a movie around that, it is just tongue in cheek pandering for a political party.

We need to save Disney Animation in the future!

They need to stop pushing gender politics into animation meant for children….parents don’t want it…that’s why no one is going

That’s too bad; is one of the best Pixar films in years!

I’ve never seen a single advertisement for it, other than along the tram route at Disneyland. I didn’t even know it was out.
