IMO, nothing will ever beat the 1964-65 NY world’s fair where Disney’s Small World, animatronic Lincoln, revolving Carousel of Progress(animatronics too), & Ford’s Magic Skyway all originated!
& the amazing Belgium Waffles there have never been duplicated since!
WHAT AMAZES ME IS THAT THERE WERE SMALL TRAMS INSIDE THE FAIR, DESPITE THE CROWDS!! & tons of places to sit & relax! Ever see that at Disney World? For several years now, there haven’t even been trams from the parking lot to the gate – at Epcot! – terrible, considering the ticket cost(google the cost of a ticket to the
’64 NYWF – you won’t beLIEVE the price!, even after adjusted for inflation).
If the animatronics & dark ride systems failed at the NY FAIR, Disney World may never have been built!! – & Disneyland might be a lot simpler & primitive today – like it was prior to 1967.
& unlike Disney today, the NY fair also had futuristic things for the home you could try/test out not avail to the public then! & much more impressive futuristic architecture, espeically the incredible Traveler’s Insurance pavillion – google that & click “images”!
& yes, the NY fair had a monorail & skyride like Disney, but ALSO had demos of a flying man using the Bell Rocket Belt! & GM had 3 incredibly futuristic cars on display. Google 1964 futurama 2 cars. Do you see anything like the above at any Disney park? Nope.
