It seems to me that the author of this article isn’t interested in a reboot. I don’t think making a TV show takes away from the existing movies. I’ve felt for years the books would be better with a streaming platform TV show because they would be more complete. As a fan of the books I’m not a huge fan of the movies. They are fine movies, but the books are so much more. Maybe a TV show can’t compare either, but it will have the runtime to try.
I do think this will be difficult for Universal who has based its theme parks around the movie depiction of the stories. But there are multiple versions of Snow White, Peter Pan, etc. and people still enjoy Disney’s rides related to their specific IP. Not to mention Marvel where UO has a whole land dedicated to the comic and cartoon stories of Marvel, whereas Disney owns the MCU. Same characters but different IP.
