Fight like heck Disney!!!! Take desantis down, hard!!! Make an example out of him!! The man is dangerous, and you have the leverage to fight him. It seems odd to me that after 100 years, now the right wing nutjobs decide to blame you for other people’s insecurities (ronnie d. this means YOU). It is not Disney at fault here…. it’s that governor. He has WAY too much power, and last I checked, Florida is still supposed to be a democracy, and follow Constitutional law. Of course, taking your business to a blue state would be a much better option, but at least demand he do the same to the other 2000 special districts…
I cannot begin to wonder what is going on in this country. I am a conservative and generally vote republican as the alternative is socialism. The last several elections I have been forced to hold my nose and vote. While I agree we should not be teaching many of the things we now accept in our schools, I am also appalled at the lack of respect for differing views. From the day DeSantis went after Disney I have felt it was retaliation for expressing a political opinion. This should never happen in America! The Trump wing of the republican party has severely damaged the parties standing with people that think like me. Where to go now. I also would not vote again for Desantis. Unfortunately, neither party has a monopoly on stupid.
Ron De Santis, is hateful, and stemming the new McCarthyism of the 21st century. His attack says more about DeSantis’ insecurities than strength and those that applaud him are also hateful. There is not one family that does not have an LGBTQ+ or an immigrant story. DeSantis’ focus on these groups and the chaos he is causing in the school system is nothing more, we’ll find out, than DeSantis’ big plan to rid public school and go to the Voucher system. He’s just in someones pocket.
It is getting scary here in Florida. Fascism comes to mind! Even my mother is getting more political and she usually stays out of political conversations. We are a Disney family and what is happening is really putting us over the edge, not to mention the crap we have to deal (from the state) with with having a trans person in our family! The governor ofFlorida is wasting so much money on stupid lawsuits and shipping immigrants from Texas to sanctuary cities. In the first time in my life I am seriously considering moving out of Florida!
I am so very encouraged by the above comments. Hopefully level headed, intelligent, fair, and people who honestly care about our children along with our society and not their political gain, will prevail!
The teacher in question was well aware of the character and the sexuality proclivities of the character. She was also well aware of the new law in Florida that prohibited such topics to be initiated by teachers.
She took the steps to have parents sign a waiver to allow students to watch a rated PG movie. She obtained general permission from the school administration to show a movie after the standardized test. However, what she did not do was inform the parents and get permission for this specific movie or inform the parents and get permission to show a movie the incorporates the topic in controversy.
Nor did she inform school administrators of the specific movie or inform the school administration the movie incorporates the topic in controversy.
As a result, it is a reasonable conclusion that she intentionally sought and attempted to show the movie in violation of the new law enacted by the State of Florida. Nevertheless, I understand that she is a first year teacher. As a result, A through investigation should be conducted and at minimum, she should be mandated to attend additional training and instruction to ensure that she fully understands the requirements of the law and her responsibilities to maintain her certification. If she intentionally showed a movie to make a political statement against the new law or to intentionally introduce prohibited material into the classroom of lower elementary children, she should probably have her certification revoked. If it was not intentional, she should have her teacher certification placed on probationary status for at least 2 years.
Just because a person disagrees with the law does not justify ignoring the law. If she wants to change the law she has every right, on her own time, to act to have the law repealed.
Out of the hundreds of kid movies available, she chose that one. Very suspicious. I very much doubt anyone in the class asked to see that movie. Why not “Puss in Boots” or an actual good movie, not the biggest box office bomb of the year.
I saw her interview on national tv after my original post. She all but said she did it intentionally to protest DeSantis and the Florida Law. She needs to have her teaching certification revoked! That would teack children that actions have consequences! That would be a great lesson to remind ALL public grade school teachers their JOB is to teach MATH, SCIENCE, READING, HISTORY, ENGLISH, and READING COMPREHENSION; not the teachers personal political beliefs, religious beliefs, moral beliefs, or any other areas not fully approved.
Teachers who spend less time on real education to teach those non-traditional areas is the reason the United States is constantly falling in education ranking in the world.
I’m sure a lot of those kids have already seen the movie and never even thought about it having a gay character in it ,a kid wouldn’t give it a second look unless a adult pointed it out

I did like most of what I heard about Mr Desantis but after the Disney thing I couldn’t vote for him.

Neither can I vote for him EVER again. I’m ashamed to say I voted for him before. I’d vote for a democRAT before I’d vote for DeSantis.
