Autopia is the one and only time I have ever encountered a disgruntled cast member- and we haven’t been on it since – my daughter was driving and I was the passenger and it kept stalling and we would do as she asked and it would stall again and cause a back up – it just wasn’t fun anymore after that – the cast member was very annoyed – I think it would be fun if the cars worked better and went electric- it’s a kids dream to drive a car

Yeah, electric is the only way to save Autopia. Granted, those Southern California freeways are much worse!

I had the VIP tour last year and asked many of these questions. The two major points were that they use all the cooking oil for fuel and that the show building for Nemo is underneath, just adds complexity. If anything maybe some hybrid cars.

I like autopia, and hope the cancel culture thunbergs quit whining about it

    1. Debby

Yes, I agree. Stop whining about it. Just don’t ride it and let the rest of us that do enjoy it, enjoy it!

  5. Karen

I have always enjoyed the cars and judging by the lines so do many people. While I understand people complaining about the fumes everything cannot run on electricity though they would be quieter. California already cannot handle the demand for electricity. Stop being whiners and just enjoy the cars and always wanting to do away with attractions at Disney or anywhere. I am so over it.

  6. Keep them! Electrify or hybrid them. The Tomorrowland Forest is a place in the Park where a child’s imagination can grow. As, as previously stated, the Subs are underneath, Monorail and PeopleMover tracks are on top. It is a well engineered area, maximized with 3 attractions in one space.

Keep it!!! It fits perfect where it is at. There are always long lines. The cancel culture need to give it a rest. Not everyone shares their opinions. So, much has changed, it is ridiculous. I love the ride and it’s worth the wait. My children and grandchildren love it also!!

  8. cheryl

I think they should be kept maybe ad a few electric so people have a choice but kids love them.

  9. Mike

It’s a ride I ride only if I have time.

  10. Mason

I have only been to WDW. So I have done Tomorrowland Speedway. Putting them on electric ruins the experience.

    1. Nate

Ruins the experience? I doubt you will see this reply but please explain how electric would ruin the experience? Maybe ruin your nostalgia?

      1. Waldo

What’s wrong with keeping for nostalgic reasons, soy boy?

  11. Nate

I agree with the keep it crowd; however I am in agreeance with those that say it should be updated to something more futuristic…. electric would be more appealing in my opinion

Since removing it would be a logistical nightmare, I don’t mind keeping it. But it absolutely needs upgrading. Get rid of the damn gas engines. It reeks, and the LA Basin hardly needs more fumes. Make them battery powered and put in sound effects for the noise. And do something about the stiff accelerators. They are either Go Full Speed or Not Responsive. Add more and better landscaping with up-to-date humor. But PLEASE get rid of the gas engines.

    1. Electric is for golfcarts!

This reminds me of this video I seen showing how there are plans to place wireless charging car lanes in the future for the electric cars to keep them charging and running sort of how the wireless charges are for certain cell phones. Now I bring it up because I remember (at least I think I do lol) that Walt said that Disney was about ingenuity and some other things. So how about this, replace the roadway with this wireless charging system, sort of like a test run for the main roads, and replace the gas cars with the electric ones that would charge wireless and there ya go a truly updated futuristic attraction.

  14. I’m usually a Disneyland purist, especially when it comes to original attractions. My mother who’s visited the park every decade it’s been in operation is still a fan. We still ride it every visit. Hell, I even have a soft spot for the ride I still think it should go. In fact I think Autopia, Nemo’s Submarine, and the Innoventions/Carousel of Progress/ America Sings/ Launch Bay building should all go to make way for a new E-ticket attraction. Tomorrowland desperately needs an update.

The smell from that attraction haunts my dreams. I have gone on it in recent years, but it’s kind of outdated like the rest of Tomorrowland at this point. I really wish they’d just revamp that whole area at this point. The sad remnants of The People Mover are just sitting unoccupied like they have since rocket rods shut down, and the launch bay still sits empty

I really hope that a few people on Reddit don’t ruin this, unlike how a tiny few on Twitter can move mountains for some reason if they shriek loudly enough and threaten everyone/thing.

Hear me out… Whether electric or gas what it really needs is a retheme to Sugar Rush! It’s literally the perfect solution. Wreck it Ralph is literally what Tomorrowland needs to save that mess.
Candy gocarts.. maybe even some attacking cybugs or a slaughter race nod. Heck even some comfy squad princesses. It could be epic.

  18. Joe

Make the cars electric and maybe trim the trees and landscaping back there. All the photos I see of Autopia from the 50s you see a wide open highway with more small scale landscaping and theme to match the small cars. Today when you drive its like going through a jungle.

  19. Ken

Guests may be complaining, but the long lines means they are still riding. That is going to be a factor in whether Disney replaces the attraction.

  20. CrosswalkX

I agree, Autopia needs to be retired and replaced, it’s over 65 years old, we should get the Disneyland staff members to retheme it to Sugar Rush from Wreck it Ralph 2012 movie. The go karts are candy themed and colorful and it has beloved characters like Wreck it Ralph Fix it Felix, Vanellope von Schweetz, King Candy Sergeant Tamora Jean Calhoun animatronic characters, and the candy characters and Candyland scenery from the movie would be fun to look at and play songs from Wreck it Ralph would be fun to listen to.

It’s time for 1955 Autopia ride to be retired and replaced and maybe make it more electric power, it’s no longer relevant to show old fashioned Mini cars. We also need to consider retheming Matterhorn bobsled ride with the Frozen ride Elsa’s Ice Palace ride.

If Disneyland rethemes Autopia to Sugar Rush ride I can likely predict it would be a huge hit and bring in super long lines for the Sugar Rush Go kart ride would be a huge boom for Disneyland profits.

Let that traitor from Florida become president or vice president there will be no Disneyland or Disney world. Cancel culture that traitor wants to be the leader.
