No. Yes, shitcan Genie+ and Lightning Lanes. But do not bring back Fastpass+. Do not introduce any system that divides your guests into the haves and have nots. Those that know how to work the system to gain favor over those that simply choose to have a simple vacation. Disney needs to drop all the planning crap. Dining reservations 6 months out. Fastpass+ reservations 3 months out. Stop the madness. Stop making people plan every single minute of every single day. Don’t just allow some spontaneity, force it. Let the day develop naturally for all guests.
I truly dont understand this comment. You are perfectly free to make a Disney day spontaneous and let it develop naturally, you know. You are not REQUIRED to work the systems, make dining reservations, or use Genie+. Feel free to stand in the normal lines. Wait for walk up seating at restaurants or stick to quick service food, or bring your own. And park reservations are already going away. Your spontaneous day can be done if the systems are too much trouble for you.
No, you can’t be spontaneous as the benefits of Fastpass always come at the expense of someone else who has to wait longer. I highly recommend Defunctland’s deep dive into Disney lines on Youtube. Fastpass+ substantially benefits the few at the expense of the many.
They are not bringing back Fast Pass +, they are bringing back the ability to PAY for your Genie+ Lightening Lane reservations possibly 3 months in advance. I wish they brought back Fast Passes since they were FREE. I’m afraid those days are long gone. You will still be walking around in the Parks with your head down looking at your phone and missing everything around you as you walk. It’s a shame how things have not really changed for the better. I am sure there are a lot of people who like it but I for one liked the simpler days where you could do things on a whim.
Personally, I don’t like any part of genie and the system. I prefer the original FP system. No phones needed, much more likely to ride many rides, free and fair for all.
This is probably my last trip to the World. Sad to say it has taken me 7 years to save up for this trip. This Genie+ and lightening lanes has made it almost too expensive for the great grandmother to afford. I am sad to say. Too bad the stock holders have to have such a mark-up at our expense. I almost believe the magic is now gone. I am very sad. Hope I will be able to enjoy this up coming trip.
I refuse to pay for genie + or lightning lanes. I get there early stay late and still have a blast! Do I use my phone? Yes. But only for wait times and occasional mobile orders. Do I sometimes have to do some extra walking? Yup. But it’s Disney. There’s a lot of walking anyways. Do I wish fastpass was back for free? Obviously. But honestly, my biggest issue is hearing parents tell young children “see WE don’t have to wait” as they walk through the lightning lane and teach their six year olds to scoff at those of us who would rather not (or can’t afford to) spend extra to ride the rides. What they really should have done was to make a free digital version of the paper FP tickets. Available to everyone and once they were out for a certain ride then you make the decision to wait the line or skip the ride.
This is correct. The original paper fares fastpasses were by far the best option, bringing all the benefits without the problems (more people riding less popular attractions, spreading out the crowds, allowing waiting in line without standing in line, spontaneity allowed without crushing standby waits, you could learn the system in a day and not ruin your vacation because you didn’t study for your PhD in Disney Fastpass or plan your day 2 months ago, you didn’t need to bury yourself in your phone all day…)
Really, watch the Defunctland deep dive, it’s amazing. Required viewing for Disney execs. And bring back the original simple Fastpass.
This is why Universal is better. You pay a flat rate on a fast pass and you get to go through the fast line one time.(except Hagrid’s) Universal highest tier annual pass gives you fast for free after 4.
Well this didn’t prove that FP is coming back. And why would you want it to. It was easy, it worked well and it was included in your ticket price. None of those things belong in the New Disney Parks agenda. Now it is about big executive salaries, less visitor Magic and less Cast members to support you. Just the way it should be. And as for “no I-ger in team” let’s remember a lot of these new programs were his ideas left for $Cheapak$ to implement. Expect more in the future not less.
I’d rather have nothing than the Genie+ Tried it last 3 visits, woke up early to obtain passes, got to ride and if was down. We could have returned (in the middle of our dinner reservations). I spent $$ daily and woke up early repeatedly for 2 passes for the 8 days there. No more! For the first time in decades, we won’t be visiting WDW this year (2023). And unless something changes around passes, around ticket costs, and/or around number of cast members who support and assist, I don’t know when we’ll return.

You can still do things on a whim. If you don’t want to use the systems there is still nothing stopping you from visiting the park.
