What Woke in Disney and schools and other places is trying to with kids is this. The parents have the final say on what & when and by whom kids are taught things. Woke and others influenced by Woke are trying to remove the parents say. And then Woke has someone else do the teaching which in my opinion is criminal!

    1. Dogma

so White Washing history is okay…got it. I hear Desatan likes it when you go soft and slow…he can’t climax otherwise

      1. Rivcuban

The majority of Americans approve of “woke”.

        1. Butch M

I am for free speech and not wokeness. You don’t speak for me. I am fat, foul mouthed and independent. Triggers shouldnt get people cancelled,.they should draw conversations. Change isn’t bad, but this change is. Going after comedian when making a joke, not having any rights as a parent, people who identify as nonhuman “ie racoon, cat, or some other animal, or students getting into fist fights with teachers because children have no discipline. I could go on but having a conversation with someone who gets offended by words is pointless. You will find a way to call my comment transphobic and act like what you say accomplishes anything. You are stain on the underwear of society.

          1. Josh

I know many members of your family have probably already told you this, but you are a moron. I just wanted to remind you.

          2. Put a sock into it. You do not know what your talking about,

          3. Jean S Stewart

Could you please explain the part about people identifying as non-human, such as raccoons and cats? Because I must have missed that part!

          4. Jay

Majority? Lol if only that was true. Its easy to say majority when it’s a small heard of people in an echo chamber

          5. Jon Smith

A person that is WOKE is a person who watched the murder of the innocent man George Floyd and finally saw the unjustified hate aimed black people. WOKE is thebelief that a person should NOT have to give up their happiness just because it makes me and you uncomfortable. WOKE is the new belief.

          6. Stephanie

No its not. Woke is not your right to think that your personal views are superior over my rights to raise my children with whatever I feel is appropriate for their age. It’s more than just feeling uncomfortable as you say…its about religious beliefs and I don’t believe that men should be identifying as women and vice versa. You can identify any way you want but I have a right to disregard that. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

        2. Jay

Majority? Lol if only that was true. Its easy to say majority when it’s a small heard of people in an echo chsmber

        3. Where do you get that information from? Someone or something that is “woke”. If an intelligent group had created the mentality, it wouldn’t be called “Woke”. The name itself is condescending to ignorance.

          1. Jon Smith

Go back to the shack Bill and go sleep.

        4. Dee Rush

And you know this . . . how? What did you do? Speak with every resident living within the United States?

        5. NoWoke

The majority of americans certainly do NOT approve of “woke” hahah what world do you live in? I promise if you stop watching whatever far left news you currently watch, youllsee that youre wrong. We need more moderates in the US…the communists are winning at tearing us apart.

        6. Charles Awker

          Nope

        7. Stephanie

Not true. The majority of my friends don’t agree. We have the right to determine what our children to see. Not you, not teachers, not our neighbors, not corporations.

        8. Tim Lewis

          No they don’t.

    2. Praxia

What’s funny about your comment is parents in today’s world are not vetting what their children see BEFORE allowing their children to watch. My parents NEVER let me watch anything, at those ages that would be highly influenced by such things, until they had watched it themselves. Disney is pushing no agenda at kids. Maybe parents need to be more informed, by watching things first, rather than blaming it on an entertainment company. As a parent, I had to approve of controversial material taught in class (in Florida within the last 14 years). So saying parents have no say is incorrect.

      1. Unless you have interviewed every parent, you can’t know what they are all doing. Try again.

        1. T

Then you need to interview every teacher and ever Disney employee by your own logic.

          1. MD

If you can’t see the hypocrisy of the extreme left, then you are too left to be fair and objective

          2. Jay

So it’s not a matter of fact it’s a matter of feelings for the left. So is our opinion wring but yours okay?

        2. Jade

And unless you yourself personally know that every parent in the world is doing everything right, by your own defined logic, then you don’t really know if they are or are not to blame.

      2. Allyria

Well said! Sadly, those peeps won’t listen

        1. Pablo

Since when has liberal actions or agenda been ethical or moral?

          1. Binky69

Since civil rights. You drive on streets that are maintained by tax dollars. If you can’t see that the 1% wants us to stay divided, you are helping them to continue to take away our freedoms! Disney movies teach love, not hate, respect nit discrimination. And parents do need to vet movies like my parents did with us, O did with my children and they do with my grandchildren. You want to talk morals? Then why do conservative wgite men want to push for child marriages?

          2. MD

Because society is based on strong family units..I find it Hilarious that left wing extremists want to discredit an entire group of people based on the color of their skin, while preaching their so called beliefs of equality.. Kids like you want to be judged on the content of their character, but want to point fingers and cast blame and assertions towards others based on appearance.. HYPOCRISY at its finest huh ?

          3. C. Barrett

            I’m right here with you!

      3. Grace

Hogwash! This is a made up problem. Some parents are upset when their darlings can refute their bias opinions with facts and blame the schools for teaching facts. THE HORROR!

        1. Pablo

Of by “facts” you mean agenda such as the are more than two genders, Marvin can have wear dresses, have babies and menstruate, then I agree.

          1. Eric

But you Republicans forcing little girls to sexually exploit themselves in beauty pagents is alright, huh? Gotcha.

          2. Marie

A political party is making the children enter beauty contests? I thought it was the parents?

          3. Jade

How does that even factor in to what’s being discussed here? That analogy was rather out of focus. Please keep in the topic region. Thank you.

        2. Eric

Republicans have severe mental issues. The mentality of domestic terrorism and fascism.

          1. Jay

The one with mental issues is you from making this statement

      4. Glenn

Today’s world is all about criticizing and knit picking everything. Individuals need to watch and read what they like, and not expect the rest of society to change for them. Change the channel, don’t read the book, and let others have the same right to choose that is up to each individual. Stop over analyzing and just enjoy life.

      5. Kathy

Disney has always been nothing but intertainment and if lessons are to be learned that’s even better!. How stupid is this governor that he has just lost 65,000 jobs to people! Needless to say you lost restaurant, hotels etc their money that goes back to the state. Did mickey mouse hurt your feelings your poor idiot. You have lost so much money for the state and I hope your dang job!

      6. Chris

You’re wrong! Disney’s top execs have been recorded in a meeting expressing a desire to sexualize our children. What do you think the fuss is all about? Go to the website of the Parents TV And Media Association and educate yourself before waffling on about a lot of nonsense.

        1. Pat

That’s news to me and millions of other Disney fans around the world. I think you just perjured yourself. We’re not buying your nonsense.

          1. Stephanie

she gave the information to follow up with. Before calling her wrong, do your homework.

      7. Kevin Smith

Teaching that being gay, trans, or non white are the moral thing to be is an agenda. Intentional blackwashing is racist. Reducing white male actors to either the role of villain or bumbling idiot, firing actors based on their political views.Disney interffering in Florida’s legislation. Nope, there’s absolutely nothing wrong, go watch Disney plus. Ps, has no one heard of furries? And FYI, Disney is controlled by transhumanists who believe our humanity can be taken from us. Let’s not forget how big a part media and propaganda played in indoctrinating the people of Germany and Russia at the hands of Marxism leading up to 200million+ people being killed. Not even to include the dehumanizing campaign against Ukraine and its farmers that caused the total lockdown of Ukraine while the ussr waited for the people to starve to death after taking their food. Owning food and and even eating where punishable by death. That’s the future Disney supports for America.

      8. Review everything, but trust Disney, Florida School curriculum is approved by you annually for 14 yrs?
Parents should be the final word in what there children are exposed to outside of core education. Core education should be widely inclusive not politically focused.
Americans are not great at actually learning. They think that the point is testing. Understanding is dismal.
Disney motivation is corporate & political. They fail to stay in their lane. They evolved & updated very poorly from the original mission.

      9. Insufficient sexual education in schools can result in children learning inappropriate lessons from their peers. It can also add to a poor self-concept because the child doesn’t learn that he/she can be both different and OK.

    3. Kathy

We cannot be the most advanced,
intelligent country if we don’t teach our children the entire truthful history of our country. The helicopter parents need ro step back and let their children grow and learn. They are resilient and can handle the truth!

      1. Allyria

        Agreed!!

      2. Haley

        Absolutely!

      3. Jesse Lejarzar

Deny the truth of history and you’re destined to repeat it.

      4. Chris

You’re wrong! Disney’s top execs have been recorded in a meeting expressing a desire to sexualize our children. What do you think the fuss is all about? Go to the website of the Parents TV And Media Association and educate yourself before waffling on about a lot of nonsense.

      5. Chris

Oh they do, do they? Because you say so, I suppose. But that wouldn’t be parenting, would it.

        1. MD

Actually Chris he showed you where he got his info from, accredited or not.. The media has been used as a weapon for both sides longer than you have been alive. The left has no clue in reality, and the right tries too hard to stay traditional in a society where social media has everybody thinking they are entitled to their 15 minutes of fame. When will you young people realize it all really boils down to Rich vs. Poor, and nothing else matters and is all fluff and bullcrap?

    4. Shut up Gary, keep your ignorance to yourself.

      1. Gary

        NO

        1. James

Gary you are a loser. Hahahaha You must be so exhausted by being afraid of change and growth. Welcome to the wrong side of history.

          1. Steve

Change is bad. Stagnation is good. There is no such thing as a wrong side of history. When I take Disney over, hope people enjoy parks that cater only to 1960s and 70s audiences.

          2. Cripplious

You progressive. How dare you change Walt’s original vision from 55 opening. Nothing changes from July 17 1955. The water fountains wont work. The gates will be overloaded the roads freshly paved. Men will only be allowed in with military haircuts and suits. Women in dresses

          3. Steve

Hey, only letting men in with suits and women in dresses like every day were Dapper Day would be a much more fun park. I will be catering only to Disney purists and treating the parks like the Augusta National Golf Club, home of The Masters. The parks will essentially be private members-only clubs where some can’t visit.

          4. I wouldn’t ler my daughter watch stuff like Snow White and Cinderella because I don’t believe it is OK to teach girls, do nothing and wait for a prince to rescue you. But she saw them at daycare and I caught her playing a game and she tied herself up and said “prince rescue me” I told her “you rescue the prince” I keep teaching hee that but she is still dreaming about being married . She lives stories that end in marriage. I was indoctrinated that way too. We were encouraged to watch stuff Luke sleeping beauty, Cinderella and the little mermaid. Pretty sure my culture indoctrinated disney in the beginning. They finally got better with stuff like Mulan, Brave , finding Nemo and Frozen. They need
to stick with those kind of themes on love. Thank you for reading. Apparently
, I can only type comments vertically, one letter per line, so I can’t proofread this. I hope it is readable

          5. 🌟

steve i am literally begging you to take your meds

          6. Steve

You don’t speak to military personnel in the United States like that, civvie. I outrank you. I’m ordering you to be quiet and only answer “aye aye, sir.”

          7. Jay K

There is no wrong side to history. There’s just history, and your comment is ridiculous and unintelligent. Change does not mean growth. It just means change.

          8. Jay K

There’s no such thing as the wrong side of history. There’s just history. And change does not equal growth, FYI. It only means change.

          9. Jenny

The only indoctrination I have ever received has been both religious and political. Disney has always been even handed and ethical in my book. It’s best for parents to teach children to think for themselves, to learn to be rational instead of emotional. Parents are acting afraid of new “woke” ideas but what they should really worry about is if their children can think for themselves. That’s always been the parents job. These parents that are crying foul on ideas they don’t like are just being lazy. The world is full of conflicting and challenging information. Teach kids how to deal with it not hide from it.

          10. Gary

Well James I hope you & the other Woke drones get what you deserve and it will not be Disney all the rest of us will see to that in the end!

        2. Gary

I want to add a few more things I am not a bot. I will never quit responding to you Woke idiots doing your masters bidding. I will always be protecting my Cousin Walt’s creation and keep it from being changed into something he would never approve of. And last because of my military training I will never stop is that UNDERSTOOD I said is that UNDERSTOOD!!

      2. Grace

Don’t worry Gary is a bot. No real person could be that stupid. Ooops forgot about Desactimoniou.

    5. James

Oh stupid Gary. If you had only spent more time in school and actually paid attention. You sad sad sad little man.

      1. Smitty

        Well written, Mr. Zach

    6. Clay

Doctrine is about teaching and learning. Unlike philosophy which is about pursuing knowledge doctrine and dogma is about ideas. Ideas exist on their own and are not caused. We either accept them or do not. They are the stuff we make into contradiction and controversy and name calling is part of dividing and separating people to some idea of advantage. This seems to be Florida’s trouble and I suspect society pays a terrible price for failing to pursue knowledge and justice by suppressing people by picking ideas for them.

    7. Ron is a huge a..hole and should leave Disney out of his politics for one reason it’s the most magical place on earth!!It has allowed children’s dreams to come true every since Mickey Mouse was born so DeSantis you can simply go straight to hell

      1. Margie Langdon

        I 100% agree with you.

    8. Louise

You’ve used the word woke so many times in your comment, You’ve annihilated whatever nonsense you were trying to spew. Disney is and always has been excellent family entertainment.

    9. Disgusted Floridian

Rather be woke and empathetic, than asleep and ignorant!!!

      1. Steve

Woke means brainwashed by lies. What you call asleep is normal. Walt gave the names of his woke employees to the HUAC and when I take Disney over, only Disney purists will be allowed in the parks.

        1. Gary

All these Woke folks will learn that they have been mislead and by that time it is to late for them which is a shame!

          1. Gary

I have reasons to reply to you idiot Woke folks & I am not a bot. I am trying to protect my Cousin Walt’s creation from what you Woke folks masters and I will not quit in doing so. If Walt, Roy & their 2 brothers & 1 sister were still kicking they would be here helping! And because of my military training yes I am a VET I will always be doing what I can to get all you Woke folks out of Disney. I wish the whole country but that is beyond me. But Disney and with more & more Walter Elias Disney fans piling in it is a good possibility being done. So I will never quit is that UNDERSTOOD I said is that UNDERSTOOD!!!

          2. Megan

Who’s being misled it’s in the history books denying it won’t make it go away.

        2. Jon Smith

A person that is Woke is a person that watched the murder of the innocent man George Floyd and refuse to hate people because the color of their skin. Woke is the belief so what if the truth makes you and your kids uncomfortable. Hey kids Ron Ron DaSandtoes is Gay..

    10. Grace

As my Sainted daddy would have said, HOGWASH! This is hogwash. Schools have been in the business of indoctrination since the Ming Dynasty. Some parents are just pissed because. The schools will not reinforce some particular bias and religious beliefs.

    11. Grace

Hogwash! This is a made up problem. Some parents are upset when their darlings can refute their bias opinions with facts and blame the schools for teaching facts. THE HORROR!

    12. Corey

What is your definition of “Woke?”

    13. Scott L Lewis

What language are you even speaking?

    14. Echothecat

I suppose you just don’t realize how ridiculous and dumb you sound? Define woke. Define how woke has had an impact and on what demographics and what years.

    15. Midnight Rider

Gary, you are so ignorant. Disney doesn’t do “woke.” You don’t know, what woke means and you misuse the term.

    16. JB

So you don’t want your kids to have good values like kindness and compassion? Good morals are “woke” now?

    17. Sheila Wall, MD

I disagree b/c I define “woke” as “awakened”. I agree that parents need to control what children learn and when they learn it. They need to learn about humanity’s potential good and bad but in a stepwise fashion. “Woke” IMHO does NOT take away parental authority!! You don’t want to send a child/adolescent out into the “real world” w/o knowing what they may be subjected to.

    18. Gretchen Schwarz

It sounds like you think that “Woke” is alive and has some kind of agency. “Woke and others influenced by Woke are trying to remove the parents (sic) say.” My four now-grown and very successful kids learned throughout their lives, from every experience, every friend, teacher, friends’ parents. As a parent my job was not to *protect* them from exposure to stuff; it was to teach them how to think critically, to reason, and to tune into their own gut. This whole DeSantis/Disney thing is insane. Disney is saccharine!

      1. Stephanie

Exposure should be age appropriate wouldn’t you agree?

    19. MbRayK

      Amen!

    20. Bb

Crap! If we as parents can’t sit down with our children to discuss things they’ve seen or read or want to do same, then we parents have failed our kids. Just because a parent disagrees with a subject, event, etc… doesn’t make it inherently wrong. If you want your kids to become little pariahs continue to restrict their education.
If you hated math/algebra does that mean your child doesn’t have to learn it? And by learning it doesn’t force them to be “WOKE” with math. Is exposure to it going to turn all kids into Einsteins? Probably not. Why teach them anything at all for that matter. If you don’t like what’s being taught move to another school. Eventually you’ll find a good fit and a severely undereducated child who cannot compete in life with others.

    21. Bb

    22. GG

What a maroon! (To quote another cartoon syndicate. Your conclusion speaks to your own limited knowledge and really your responsibility to discuss things with your own kids. No sane person believes Disney is trying to convert your child into anything but a good citizen with a moral compass that actually works. If a parent was able to control everything a child learns then we’d be forever stuck in a 1930s fascist environment where books are burned rather than coal, and everyone is so afraid of the others knowing their foibles that they would go along with things like rounding up people they don’t agree with and ship them out.
Well, real Americans are not that afraid. If you are, maybe a cave high in the mountains is where you ought to live- away from everything that displeased you. Your freedoms are cut in half geometrically by the number of people you encounter in society, so drop the pretext, you’re just a rabble rouser who can spread his venom because other Americans fought for the right to be differerent, but not yo be controlled by narrow minds like we see in todays ultra conservative crowd.

    23. Gboy52

Not true Gary/Karen, you don’t run the schools. That’s why we have school boards-who by the way are tryouts ng to educate, not indoctrinate kids. Just because you hear about different folks doesn’t make you one, it just makes you aware of other folks who are different from you. No school or theme park is going to let someone molest your kids or convert them into anything (except good morals) intentionally. It’s up to you to discuss things the kids see in school or TV, etc… not condemn them or their teachers just because you don’t like it.
What’s next? If you hate algebra, are you going to storm the schools to stop them from teaching it? Is it witchcraft just because you don’t understand it?
People should have to pass a sanity test before they have kids!

    24. Lisa d

Dude, go back to school. You’re illiterate.

  2. sfcpres

    Love
    Good v Evil
    Family
    Loyalty
    Betrayal
    Beauty
    Coming of Age

These are the fundamental themes in literature for centuries. Traditionally Disney has followed these via adaptations.

The primary difference of current Disney fare is the overt nature of their message. When presented subtlety the audience learns at a subconscious level while being entertained. Today’s features have in your face platforms that at tines have little bearing on the premise.

  3. Kara G

If somebody makes a movie whose message I disagree with, I simply don’t watch it! Movies full of gun violence for instance. I don’t whine like a tiny baby that they should never be made.

    1. Conservative Karens aren’t intelligent enough to know they’re actually the biggest snowflakes. F’ing whiny little babies.

      1. Corey

I wish I could like your comment a million times

    2. Blackstar

      Thank you 😊

    3. Margie Langdon

In my eyes DeSantis is merely an egotistical, power hungry and money hungry twerp who thinks he can save the world and have people see things HIS way. He doesn’t own Disney, heck his name isn’t even on any of the legal papers. I’m so glad I grew up in the 70s and 80s where our parents and us kids didn’t have to worry about some crazy politician wanting to ruin the childhoods we had and take them away from us. I have never been to Florida and believe me, I have no intentions of going now. DeSantis should just go back in the military where he can blow his own horn.

  4. SHERMAN HOUSTO

LATELY DISNEY HAS DESTROYED EVERTHING THEY EVER HAD. ORIGINAL STAR WARS , THE FIRST SIX MOVIES WERE GREAT, DISNEY RECREATED STAR WARS INTO A WARPED IMITATION LUCAS CREATION, AND THE NEXT 3 MOVIES WERE PURE GARBAGE AND I WILL NEVER EVEN TRY ANYMORE EVER. NOW THEIR DESTROYING INDIANA JONES AND EVEN DISNEYS ORIGINAL PRE1980 GENIUS WITH WOKE TRASH. I WILL LOYALLY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING DISNEY. EVER!!!!

    1. Grace

      Say WHAT?

    2. Corey

      They’re just movies guy 🙄🤔

    3. Bobsaid

      Truth

    4. Haley

Sometimes… and this is true… using all caps make people care less about what you have to say.

    5. 🌟

point on the doll where the movie hurt you

  5. Laverne

Years ago when most of you went to school and was taught by teachers, Dr.’s Professors did your parents have a say on curriculum being taught. Let the educators who have gone to school 4+ possible more do their jobs. The Education Board of not just parents but educators create the curriculum. What the Hell is so hard? Check your child’s social media not your schools. Kids today learn more from social media. I just saw Barney on a channel my grandson turn to taking about wipe out humanity. Unreal! Scary

  6. Rob

Disney ruined Star Wars and are ruining the MCU. They are gonna kill Indiana Jones

    1. Cripplious

yes Indiana Jones is going to die because Harrison Ford is too old to perform that role.

    2. Grace

NOOOOOOO, ID must live forever … just like Dracula.

  7. Victor

This was a beautifully written article with a truly heartwarming message. Then I scrolled down to the comments section, and most of what I saw from begining to end was just hate. Real hatred for someone they’ve never met and who likely lives thousands of miles away. That’s really sad. If anyone stumbles upon this comment, just know that not everyone is like that. There are those in this country who still care for and respect one another even if they disagree. You don’t have to live your life always angry. You can make a better choice.

    1. Big Fan

I saw your comment. Thank you for the positive message.

    2. Victor, that was and is brilliant!!!

Thanks – well said. I don’t know where you stand politically or morally, and it’s not my business. I just find it fascinating that so many people who talk about “acceptance” and “tolerance” can be some of the most bigoted, intolerant, hateful, and vulgar people…if anyone disagrees with their particular political/moral stance. These folks hate Ron DeSantis and can call him names because he disagrees with them? It’s a strange dichotomy…

  8. Allyria

Disney & the teachers who actually care about the truth will always have my vote as they keep fighting the good fight on promoting (Disney) & teaching (teachers specifically) the right things that everyone should learn.

  9. Ron is a huge a..hole and should leave Disney out of his politics for one reason it’s the most magical place on earth!!It has allowed children’s dreams to come true every since Mickey Mouse was born so DeSantis you can simply go straight to hell

  10. Neo

DeSantis’24! Notice how Disney has an issue with parents and common sense. It’s not even just their openly woke ideaology. ….mass majority of all Disney characters have either 1 or both parents dead. Disney doesn’t like parents and wants other “Worldly sources” that aren’t parents, to be the the characters main teacher. Disney just hasn’t been so hush hush and is now doing it openly. The teacher who showed the indoctrination Disney movie in class in FL. Definitely needs to be fired for showing that movie. Hey teachers ,their our kids even at school..not your. #DON’TTREADONOURKIDS!

    1. Grace

Again HOGWASH! You remind me of the religious zealot who insisted that “Fantasia” promoted witchcraft. Some people just want to see problems where are none.

    2. Jon Smith

Hey Kiddies if you haven’t heard Ron Ron DaSandtoes is GAY!

  11. Michael Holland

Delusion seems to be a common theme with those that disapprove of disney, mind you this is a war that deathsantis started. Disney has never indoctinated anyone, please refer to our religious leaders especially those parishes where 20 thousand children were abused by catholic priests and were moved from parish to parish. They were not disney, they were not drag queens. This is all dogma and should be avoided as disney will be here long after deathsantis is gone!

  12. Jones

I don’t know how Florida of all places would put a Mexican in office. Disney probably thought because he’s a wet back he wouldn’t try what he’s trying now they were wrong. He’s probably mad that there’s not that many Mexicans working at Disney, hell half the mexicans in the state are illegals. But he ain’t talking about that. He wants your mind on something else while his cousins and relatives sneak in the state. Y’all need to have him IMPEACHED!!! Stick together and y’all can get him outta There before he changes anymore laws that benefit him and his people like making Wetfoot Dryfoot legal. IMPEACH HIM NOW!!!!!!!

  13. Hanna

Zach – thanks for the perspective. If I could offer some constructive criticism: your use of the English language could benefit from some review. Perhaps an online class might improve your skill level. Just a suggestion.

  14. The HOG

I don’t know how the people of Florida would put a Mexican in office, he probably got in thru a lot of those illegals in the state, and they didn’t notice. He’s mad with Disney because they won’t hire those illegals, hell half in the state are, but he keeps y’all mind on other things so you don’t notice all his cousins and friends sneaking in, but that’s not discussed y’all need to get together and protest and have him IMPEACHED!!! IF you don’t he’s probably going to amake Wetfoot Dryfoot legal so the actual citizens of the state would probably become the minority. Whatever you do Disney don’t pay him. He’s not the President, so he can’t have no health insurance scam, so he gone try to beat y’all by making you open your books to see how much you got to extort from you, and to Force you into hiring those ILLEGALS. STAND YOUR GROUND DISNEY.

  15. KG

Recent former cast member here. Speaking from the corporate culture, not necessarily the movies or public culture, there has DEFINITELY been a mandatory “indoctrination” corporate culture INSIDE with their employees to abandon their conservative values, most definitely in the last three years especially. I would call it “social engineering” but that is too nice. It’s definitely “moral propaganda” or even more “immoral propaganda.” I would never tell a corporation how to run or what messages to sell, and I didn’t and don’t. But my OWN participation in their viewpoints not being optional, it was definitely mandatory, is different. I had seven years with the company and always treated everyone, guest and fellow cast, always professionally and with courtesy, as we always have. That is different than requiring my approval of their life choices, which no one has the right to ask of me. While I personally don’t condone lifestyles (just like I personally don’t condone choices like smoking) I do not interfere with other’s choices and never have. I don’t take away any rights, I have no interest in that and I am not involved. I treat all professionally and magically and always have but I don’t and won’t approve of all lifestyles. So Disney as a culture is not just recommending inclusion (on their terms, depending on what it means to THEM), they are requiring participation. Again, I never condone ugliness or prejudice, but I have a right to my OWN personal held values and Disney as a corporation is literally trying to do more than indoctrinate that out of me, they are essentially making it mandatory, and no one can do that. Again, I don’t tell Disney how to operate, I just treat everyone fairly and don’t single anyone out, period. But they also can’t tell ME how to think. Anyone who doesn’t believe Disney isn’t indoctrinating their values is not aware of the actual corporate culture of requiring participation against my values. That is the truth of it. Not an exaggeration. And people have a right to have their own viewpoints, but then again, so do I.

    1. KG, that is a well thought out response. Thank you for a little sanity and a close up viewpoint.

    2. Scott L Lewis

Sounds like you were mad you had to go by COMPANY rules and you weren’t allowed to be rude to gay people. Sounds like a YOU problem not a Disney problem.

      1. Simmadownnow

Scott, I find your comment to KG rather ironic…KG clearly stated they’ve always treated everyone the same no matter their personal feelings or disagreement. Yet, your response not only made it clear that you don’t have the same respect for those you disagree with, but you also added your own assumption and accusation that they want the right to be rude to gay people. Disagreeing is not hateful. Your statement actually was pointing out your own exact flaws and projecting onto KG what YOU are guilty of (being rude to those who don’t fall into lockstep group think).

    3. Beth

You said you are a “former” cast member–I presume that you left because you didn’t agree with their corporate culture? Because that would be the appropriate thing to do.

It’s easy enough to find employment with a company more in line with your personal values. Most of the time they wear it on their company logo, mission statements and advertising.

It doesn’t seem that strange to ask castmembers to ask to treat ALL their patrons with professionalism and respect regardless of the CM personal feelings. Can you say more about how they tried to force you to go against/change your personal values by “forcing participation”? Did they force you to attend gay weddings or something? Address people with genderless pronouns?

    4. CDinID

      TRUTH!

    5. John Smith

Also a cast member. Disney is a private organization and can run things however they please. You can go along or leave. Pretty simple.

  16. S Nogg

I came to support the author of this piece, because if the past is any indication, some ‘fans’ are gunna trash him.

I thought hus points were well thought out and SUPPORTED WITH EXAMPLES.

    Well done, Sir.

  17. I can only imagine the horror a certain set of people feel, that the world no longer revolves around them, and their most narrow and untrue definiru8n of history is no longer swallowed without question. Imagine being cock of walk forever, and now come along these upstart woke SOBs, stealing their glory. Oh the humanity. Let’s not teach the truth because little Johnny or Jill might get confused, or their feelings hurt, or worse yet, GASP, question the status quo as being the ultimate truth. It’s not the kids these anti woke folks are truly concerned about, it’s the losing their place in the pantheon of time and history, as God’s gift to the universe. The universe always balances itself out. It’s doing so right now, to those who thought it would never happen. And as with all animals wounded, cornered and about to be put down, it’s going to fight to the very end, by any means necessary. But end it will.

  18. Barbara

I believe DeSantis is cramming his holy roller puritan BS down everyones throat and don’t believe his “It’s the will of the people”, because it was is the will of Desantis and cronies. must be hard to walk !

  19. Steve

ITM…you are an anti-Disney joke. Goodbye. Whenever you pop up, I will simply glide right past you. You are a political propaganda website!!

  20. Eric

Wow. Republicans have severe mental problems. Disney trying to teach people the difference between right and wrong is a crime to Republicans, but Republicans forcing religion in schools isn’t illegal and unconstitutional, huh?

  21. Dwhit

#1 Disney should have stayed in its own lane! Somehow all the other parks were able to do that.
#2 While we are so concerned about gender and a WOKE agenda, the rest of the world is actually educating their children with reading, writing and math.
    The USA Better wake up.

    1. Hales

Lol what? Hate to break it to you but most other countries have moved on from the “woke agenda” as you call it. That’s why they can focus on education, reading and writing– they have progressed, which is to say, surpassed what is essentially a pointless argument. It is the derision of progress that will always mean being held back– maybe instead of trying to hold onto the past, the US (esp the Conservatives who seem most nolstalgic for 1950s ideals) should try… I dunno… moving forward like the rest of the world. Equal rights, gender rights, gay rights– the countries they are essential a non-issue, where it isn’t being made an issue by people trying to stop progress are the countries that have moved on past you. I think the best way to describe it is… there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of every day.

  22. Key West

Quoting from your article, “The truth of the matter is that our modern social and political climate has never been more divisive, and terms like “woke” and “agenda” are thrown about left and right by both sides of the spectrum. ”

—That is PATENTLY UNTRUE and your “both sides” argument is completely flawed. The phrase “stay woke” has history as far back as the 1930s, in some contexts referring to an awareness of the social and political issues affecting African Americans – but the right has recently co-opted that term as something evil, and something to be feared. Something that the vast majority of folks on the right can’t even define… BUT BE AFRAID! BE VERY AFRAID, OR THE WOKE BOOGIE MAN WILL EAT YOUR CHILDREN!!!

As for “agenda”, that was a hateful term originally coined in 1992 as the “Gay Agenda” or the “Homosexual Agenda” in a video by sectors of the Christian religious right as a disparaging way to describe the advocacy of cultural acceptance and normalization of non-heterosexual sexual orientations and relationships.

The term, “agenda” started with the “Springs of Life Ministries”, and spread as a dog whistle throughout the right… but the sentiments go all the way back to 1977 with Anita Bryant’s hateful “Save Our Children, Inc.” – another attempt to demonize gays and lesbians, which originated in Florida (what is wrong with this backward, bigoted state??)

For some reason (deep seeded bigotry? Twisted christian “values”?) Florida just can’t seem to leave gay people and people of color alone. But let me ask you, if instead of “Don’t Say Gay”, we started passing laws that said, “Don’t Say Straight”, or “Don’t Say White”, or “Don’t Say Christian”, how would you feel??

Anyways, don’t “Both Sides” this issue, because as usual, the right, isn’t.

  24. David L Langston

This is BS! Disney hasn’t been targeting children with the serializing and diversity CRt until the past few years that the left has dredged up from the social sewer. If you want children to learn and be resilient, let them learn real biology and critical thinking. Let the parents teach their children proper ideology not some leftist activist! If Disney continues down the diversity and inclusive with executives paid for promoting that dredged it will fail. Like everything else that goes down in flames, the blame will be placed at your feet. You are the extreme element and the majority tolerance is wearing thin

  25. Dave

That the author highlighted and was in agreement with this quote …

“It’s not that they’re being indoctrinated, they’re learning the difference between right and wrong. Disney just helps them get there.” ….

That right there tells me the author believes that if you don’t agree with all Disney’s values they are shoving down you and your kids throats then you’re a bad person.

Disney used to make magic… Now they make crap. So the author is right on that note but when the woke (what a waste of a good word) use evil tactics to fight the evil they perceive… they just end up creating more evil.

This author is attempting to brainwash everyone into believing what they see and hear from Disney is what is right and good in the world.. Some of it is on point, some not, most of it just bad entertainment. We come to be entertained and feel experience magic not get preached to about how evil we are if we don’t hold to Disney morality…. Hypocritical evil corporation. Disney has become the monster, not the general public that’s dramatically lost faith in company since 2019 in market research.

This author has the worst takes on everything I’ve seen from them so far

  26. Robin

These right-wing extremists make me sick. Any time someone doesn’t look like or think like or talk like them they hate it. They have the tight to their own beliefs and choices for them and their children. That is all. They do not have the right to decide what everyone else is allowed to think, say or do. If someone does something I don’t believe in or care for, I keep my opinion to myself. Live and let live. I don’t have many right-wing extremist friends, and I’m happier for it. By the way I am a 65 year old Nana who loves my children and grandchildren for who they are, unconditionally.

  27. Bruno

I agree with some, but not all of your conclusions. Your ideas are thought out and expressed well, but dude! Run a spell check and grammar check. It’s hard to take someone seriously when they write so poorly.

  28. Jom

I haven’t heard an article from this wet site about the star wars hotels closures

  29. RepubsCantHandleWords

Every single person who’s worried about “woke” anything doesn’t doesn’t know what the term even means. They’re all worried about a slang term made up by children.

  30. Wellibee

I don’t necessarily disagree with the author, but he is clearly a corporate mouthpiece. As a corporation, it is clear to me that the preeminent value Disney holds is profit. That is something the guv should find appealing. As for “woke” culturing, it is unfortunate to see a term that describes awareness and open-mindedness be made into a pejorative, but that’s politics.

  31. FJB

Great. This site is now competing with HuffPost.
Maybe ask Buzzfeed, it’s owner, how it’s going? Maybe ask Vice while you’re at it?

  33. Daryl-Rhys

A very true article that I’m sure people won’t fully read.

  34. Joxua

Remember how disney dipicted the Japanese and Chinese and native americans and black and every minority?
Are people forgetting that Disney always pushed a propaganda agenda to kids?
Disney used to make actual us military training videos and recruitment videos!
They are still, but now it seems like they are training America to lose the next war.
It seems like the Chinese have taken over corporate disney and they are indoctrinating the easily influenced to be little gay woke democrats.

  35. Ron

I don’t agree with this article. I don’t believe Disney was this way when Walt was around, at all. We didn’t see obvious drag queens in Disney productions until the last several years. Beauty and The Beast was stomach churning. They can go out of business for all I care. What else will come from them ? Maybe a character hero who seems a little too much like Lenin ?

  36. Yb

When someone doesn’t know when to use something vs. some thing….

The difference between these movies is the old Disney teach moral lessons. The new ones just tell basic stories or basic morals whereby they have to force a characters sexuality or status front and center, when it shouldn’t be in the movie at all. “B-but what about straight couples?!” Well that’s normal, the gay crowd is not, hence it doesn’t produce anything of value except sexual degeneracy. We can see the disgusting affects of the snowball that’s come from “we just want to get married” and Disney helps push it. Probably to appease their Chinese backers who also push this stuff of TikTok. It’s no wonder the younger generations have lowering IQs, they eat up whatever is pushed to them as long as it’s quick, flashy, colorful, or doesn’t require thought and Disney pushes things in their films which meet a lot of those.

  37. BlueCollarCritic

There’s nothin innocent about any content including a Disney animated film that pushes sexuality as Strange New Worlds does, an animated film that not inly is the mist child inappropriate film ever from Disney but it’s biggest financial failure as well. You can try and sprinkle that Disney Pixie Dust over this to try and do damage control but people are on to Disney’s “Not so secret gay agenda” and we’re not tolerating it any more!

  38. Darrell

I completely agree. This has been Disney’s message for decades. Since early on Disney’s history. Unfortunately, politicians on the right have picked up certain bigotry tropes to make issue and combat “woke” and “indoctrination”, and their supports believe it blindly. It’s simple – certain people on the right don’t want same sex couple in a movie because they are bigots. The end.

I was watching Pocahantas recently, where she sings “You think you own whatever land you land on… You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you.” And all I could think about is how, if this 30 year old movie was released today, the GOP and the right would complain about it being too woke or indoctrination children. I’m totally OK if you don’t want to read/watch certain things and if you make that decision for your family. But neither you, nor the government, should he able to control or dictate what the rest of us and private companies watch, read, say, etc.

  39. Dan

    HATE!
This is possibly the most awful word one can use in referring to another human being. We have murdered, waged war, abused one another all because of hate. When we don’t know someone or we don’t understand their ways we say we hate them. Perhaps if we took the time to understand and appreciate one another. When we can see another human being as just that, another human being not much different than we. When we take the time to understand how they live, love and laugh then maybe just maybe we could see that they are very much like you and I. Most people in the world are good. The few who are totally reprehensible are few. Most of our hatred stems from our own ignorance. I like the expression “walk a mile in someone else’s shoes “. It tells us that only when we can judge others as we would judge ourselves can we see that most people are more like us than “them “. We only need to look beyond our little world to see that others in this world are afraid, hungry, homeless, hurt and angry. When we put our hand out in appreciation of who they are. What they have gone through in their lives. Then there is a chance we can get beyond all this hate. To many leaders in business and government, worldwide, want you and I to hate one another. It is easier for these so called leaders to get away with whatever nefarious intentions they have if we are to busy hating each other and not watching what they are doing. When we have respect and love for our fellow human beings, when we care then there is hope. None of us are safe or free if the least of us can not be guaranteed the basic freedoms we hold dear. Just because someone else’s lifestyle or sexual preferences does not agree with your personal set of values does not give you the right to go against them. As long as anyone is not hurting you or being disrespectful of your lifestyle or beliefs then they should be respected and given their space to pursue their lives as they see fit. We have lost the ideal of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness “. Until we can get back to our fundamental love of freedom for all then none of us are free. Then we are all a little less free and that is sad. We have to stop using the word hate so much and start again using the word LOVE again and with more frequency. Our world will not survive with hate but only by loving one another do we have a chance for a better life and a better world for all of us. You don’t have to know someone to hate them but love in any form takes a commitment of at least understanding and listening. Hate is a very lonely, black abis where no light can enter. It is a very sad place.

  40. Marie

Decide for yourself what is right. But don’t decide for anyone else what is right for them. Don’t tear down their beliefs because they are not yours. George Floyd: can’t we all just get along? I my not agree with your opinion but I will defend your right to choose that opinion.

  41. Stephanie

I think people have gone crazy. Disney does not have any big agenda except teaching children right from wrong…as they have always done. As a child, many lessons my parents taught me were backed by watching Disney movies. You can even learn things as an adult through these movies. It’s definitely NOT indoctrination. And I still don’t understand why everyone is making such a big deal about Strange World. One boy admits he has a crush on another boy. Oh no, the world is going to come to an end because this was in a Disney film!!😱 And to make it worse, the boys hold hands at one point!😱😱 Give me a break people. Why does a person’s sexual identity matter so much to everyone? If they are not hitting on you then who cares?! Finally, parents should be monitoring what their kids are watching. If you’re not sure about a movie or program, then watch it first, & then if deemed ok watch it with your child in case he/she has any questions. It’s what my parents did when I was growing up, & it worked out great!

  42. It’s not. governments place to set moral or ethical standards for the general. population, just.becauae you said. so doesn’t. make it right or. reasonable..

  43. NoWoke

The majority of americans certainly do NOT approve of “woke” hahah what world do you live in? I promise if you stop watching whatever far left news you currently watch, youllsee that youre wrong. We need more moderates in the US…the communists are winning at tearing us apart.

    1. Stephanie

      agreed

  44. John Smith

Here’s the thing that DeSantis and his thick headed minions can’t comprehend. It’s 2023, not 1953. The LBGTQ+ community isn’t going away. It’s evolving as society should. Only Neanderthals want to hold back change, progress and equality. Instead of attempting to cancel everybody and take away people’s choices and freedoms try doing what Disney has always done: embrace and welcome everyone. Nobody cares about your illiterate kids and nobody is trying to indoctrinate them. If parents can’t be a moral compass then it’s on them, not Disney, not teachers, not anyone else.

    1. Stephanie

Why do you have the right to cancel out my religious beliefs? What makes you rights superior to my rights? You want to identify as LBGTQ+$#@ whatever, I don’t care but I don’t have to acknowledge you as a man if you are a woman. My religious beliefs might not coincide with your beliefs. Respect my rights to tell my child its not ok. When my child is 18 they can decide for themselves. I believe that G-d sets the moral compass for life. It’s a cop out to call people ignorant for believing in the bible or G-d just because its not what you believe. I respect your right to be call or do whatever you want but keep your hands off my kids.

  45. R J Pierce

    Koolaid, sorry;:didn’t press the “l” hard enough…

  46. Stephanie

Just to clarify, this teacher had permission slips from some of the parents in her class for the movie to be shown. This teacher was supervising students from another class for another teacher and there were no permission slips from those parents from that class. With that being said, she had no right to show the film if any of those parents had not been given the choice. Period. The teacher can’t claim ignorance as she knew she had to get permission slips for the movie to be shown already so just because she felt some of the other parents had approved it, that it was ok for her to go ahead and show the movie without those slips.

As parents we have the right to decide what our own children can and can’t see, read and hear. If I had my choice this whole woke agenda in schools would be dropped and focus on the core classes. My personal opinion doesn’t override your position as a parent to teach it if you want to in your home but it also doesn’t give you the right to override my rights as a parent.

Any chance Ricky Brigante can return the money and take his creation back?
