Good for Disney more power to them. I think they should stay out of politics. But the governor went to far the intention will hurt all of Florida. And he needs to be a big boy now and let it go. Unfortunately I don’t think he will temper tantrum. We will watch and see so many other problems in Florida that need fixing and with that being said I am a native and no real fan of the mouse.

    1. Bbbbbbb

Then why are you on the website lol

    2. Zara

So why have an opinion if they wish to include inclusion in their parks like any good employer does/would

      1. Walt

sexual mutilation of children is not inclusion – it’s sick

If Disney continues to want to dabble in politics that affect children whose parents should be the ones deciding the limits of what they want their children taught or exposed to in school, then I support the Governor in his actions to treat Disney the way other entities are treated. No other major parks in Florida, that I know of, are given free reign to develop and control their own permits without meeting state codes.

Disney only dabbled in politics to stand up for their employees- you know those people who wait on the sorry butts of people like you who do nothing but complain. They were stuck between a rock and a hard place. No one is forcing people to take their kids to the parks or watch Disney tv. If you don’t like it then don’t go. I hope they do what Universal did and go to Texas and give them the tax breaks.

      1. Zara

        Well said!!

Lisa, you’re correct in saying no one is forced to go to the Parks or subscribe to Disney+/watch Disney TV. But following the same train of thought, no one is forced to work for Disney, at the Parks or elsewhere, that’s also a personal choice. If you don’t like it, find another job. Disney’s decision to “dabble in politics” was not rock and a hard place or protecting employees, it was and is a conscious business decision. Whether it was a good or bad decision is yet to be seen.

Reedy Creek Improvement District is an incorporated City. They have to abide by all state regulations like any other city in the state.

    3. Vin

Not meting codes? That’s flat out wrong. There are state licensed building inspectors and fire marshals, etc. in Reedy Creek. Every building and attraction has to meet UBC and Florida code and every ride needs to meet ASTM standards. Rather than go thru the local DOB, they have their own building department and fire marshal’s office.

      Agreed 100%

Companies are CONSTANTLY “dabbling” in politics. There is no large business in the United States that does not attempt to shape policy. The way our country is built with lobbying and the way we decided to let corporations contribute to political campaigns as if they were a citizen inherently created a system where businesses run the show. Don’t like it? Both sides of the political aisle would receive significantly less funding if we demanded all businesses stay out of politics. You can’t pick and choose, it’s all or none. I, for one, would LOVE if the NRA could no longer contribute to politics and politicians. If you want to ban one, you have to ban them all.

        BINGO !

      2. Todd R Hudson

I so agree that the company shouldn’t donate or fund political campaigns. I see no wrong if the owners want to spend their money

      3. Walt

does that make it right? That a company has more power than the electorate?

    6. But, companies who “Dabble”, by supporting restrictive legislation are ok, right?

Disney actually helped to develop more stringent codes over the years, back when a manchild wasn’t running the state as his own personal vendetta machine. Also RCID took a lot of the tax burden off of Orange and Osceola counties, by maintaining the infrastructure on property, which would have been up to the counties to pay for if not for the agreement back in the 60s

    7. Joe D.

You support the government retaliating against a company for exercising its constitutional right to free speech? That’s an interesting position to take.

And the RCID has never been exempt from state regulations regarding their construction permits.

    8. Pete

I agree. DeSantis and Florida will prevail.

What really upset Desantis was that Disney said they would withdraw the political donations to his camp… money is what politicians are really about. So Disney was very involved by donating, Desantis got pissed when they “undonated”. So essentially the opposite of what you say is true.

      1. AH

No. He was upset because Disney said they would work to over turn the law.

  3. Ed Marks

Disney will need to give some of the perks back to their guests that they’ve taken away since the pandemic and build a fifth Park to try to stay ahead of universal.

  4. J nelk

Disney as well as all large corporations should stay out of politics and stick to what they do entertain……the same holds true of all of the professional athletes…..just do what you do and keep you opinions to yourself ……the majority of us just don’t give a crap which side they are on and I honestly don’t think it changes anyone’s opinion either….

Disney cannot and will not continue to enjoy all its special privileges and maintain its own private, corporatist government forever. All things come to an end. Will Disney move out of Florida? Very unlikely, given the billions and billions of dollars already invested in infrastructure, etc. Moving a behemoth like Disney World’s infrastructure to another state is not fiscally or logistically realistic. That said, Florida has given Disney an unfair competitive advantage over its competition in the region. Some public policymakers have suggested that Florida give Universal, SeaWorld (inclusive of Busch Gardens), Legoland, et al., the same privileges as Disney by granting them each their own private, self-serving governments. Disney would not be happy and would still feel as if being punished by the state, but how could they publicly complain? They’d simply be on a level playing field with their competition. Or simply put an end to corporate welfare by abolishing all special privileges for corporations. The latter is easier said than done. God save the Mouse! All hail the Mouse!

Disney always ran Florida. They got them to shut down Boardwalk and Baseball, Cypress Gardens and tried to have SeaWorld close. We do not need anymore theme parks or apartments being built-in Osceola or Orange county. We need all roads re-done. More schools. Osceola use to be a nice little country town. Now we have more cars on the roads that can not take the traffic. They are caving in. This state is built on water not land. Please fix our roads and stop building and trying to figure how to make more roads and theme parks. As far as Disney goes I lived here 50 years been to Disney 10 times but been to SeaWorld and Universal a thousand times. Universal is so much better then Disney ever will be. The prices are outrageous for them parks these days. If your not rich Disney don’t want you there.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch where the article is…..
Until I see actual ground breaking for a fifth gate, a new park addition is simply rumors that are being perpetuated by wishful thinking.

The mouse house took a little Ronnie’s rattle away and now he’s not happy. So now it’s a temper tantrum. Walt Disney had a dream for Florida in that park in the political devil is trying to destroy it. Yes, I said it the political devil Ron DeSantis this man should be ashamed of himself.
