You would think Disney would keep the monorails in good condition just to keep from having law suits from happening. The last thing they would want is someone being injured and then sue. Everyone is on to this baby tantrum. Two words: Term Limits!

    1. Cody Archambault

      Agreed

      1. Jay Gee

Disney should not be above the law. I think the monorails need to be inspected for people safety. In the near future Disney may not need any monorails because they out pricing the average family right at the ballpark. I think the governor need to bust up all that special privileges that Disney has.

        1. Native

Disney has never been above the law. They have run these monorails since 1971 Without Incident. I’d rather not have some rookie desantis crony checking on their safety. Have you ever even been there or rode the monorails ?

          1. John

Without incident you say? Don’t remember the collision that killed 1 in 2009

          2. R

There have been incidents. My friend Wil’s best friend was a monorail pilot, and a monorail backed into his cockpit and was killed. I’d say that’s an incident.

          3. NC

Exactly. All these ppl giving their opinions probably have never been to Florida let alone Disney. The train has been running for 52 years no problems at àll. I work in one of the restaurants and we get inspections from Disney and from the. State. I doubt that the monorail is not inspected by both as well. 52 years but, now there is a problem because our governor is acting like an ex.

        2. Fred

And you my friend would benefit greatly by enrolling in a remedial Engrish course

        3. Chris

I’m guessing you’d like to see the Florida governor put that prison right nest to the parks? It doesn’t really seem like a good idea to have the governor mess with what disney is doing.

        4. S

Those privileges were part of the agreement made to get Disney to open a park in Florida, making it the #1 tourist attraction in the US it is not above the law it is called incentive, it is a pretty common thing when a state or city is wanting to lure a major attraction to locate there over other places – when they retire a monorail train usually Seattle buys it and rhet have had no issues with the trains there where there are codes and regulations the trains must meet

          1. Rebecca Veazey

            Absolutely!

        5. Gilda M Perkins

Really, the largest employer in the state of Florida and the country?

        6. Oatik

How many accidents have occurred on the monorail in the past 50 years using only the current inspection system. When you find that answer, and it ain’t hard, you’ll see why this is just a DeSantis distraction issue.

        7. Guy

They do inspect them and since they designed and built them I somehow think state inspectors might have ulterior motives in mind when they conduct these unnecessary procedures.

    2. Barbara

Exactly.. Governor has lost his way . Really ..its a shame whats happening. I support Disney 110 percent

      1. Rick

so you are ok with Disney gouging everybody with the insane prices and all the new rules to enter. Not me they suck as far as I am concerned

        1. Randy

          Then don’t go

        2. TruthSeeker

Nothing to do with the topic, genius.

          1. DeSantos needs to go. A truly disgusting govenor who trys to pocket whatever cash he can. Cares less about womens rights and would make a horrific president. Disney has had the monorail for ages without incidentThis is just DeSantos throwong his BS around as usual. Too bad florida has become such a pit and Disney had not chosen to build in a friendlier state. Disney brings tons of revenue to the state of Florida in rental cars, hotels, restaurants etc. This idiot of a governor needs to shut his moronic trap.

          2. FL

The FL Disney park is easily the most profitable Disney park in the world. The taxes are low, the government doesn’t require insane environmental permits, building costs are cheap , the weather is amazing. You really haven’t thought this through have you? I’ll bet you a million dollars that it costs Disney twice as much to operate its park in California as it does in FL.

          3. FL

Yeah all DeSantis has done is make FL one the most successful, safe, and financially profitable states in the country. Millions of democrats are fleeing CA and NY like rats fleeing a sinking ship. Democrats have made their states hell holes!

          4. Gilda M Perkins

            Well said, he’s power hungry.

        3. They employ over 100k people. Lots of salaries paid out. What will happen to all those people if Disney gets sick of DeSantis and moves to the Carolinas,

          1. FL

It would cost Disney tens of billions of dollars to move out of FL. And if it went to a blue state, it’s taxes would double. Moving the park would push Disney towards bankruptcy.

        4. Sharon

I agree with Rick. I was a Disney fan until Chapek was installed as CEO. All his stupid rules have been ruining what was a fantastic “playground”. Everything was beyond great! But I do believe they’re pricing regular people out of the parks. And reservations to enter the parks?? They’re out of their minds!!!!!

      2. Dennis Cox

If you look at the monorail track there are cracks and in some places when the monorail goes over the track cement dust blows off.

If Florida safety inspectors deem it to be unsafe then it should be shut down. Just because Disney had the ability before to say it was safe doesn’t mean to the public it is really safe.

        1. John Smith

Dude, the monorails are inspected on a regular basis. And not by Disney. DeSantis is an embarrassment as a leader.

          1. MorngConqr13

            Agree

        2. Guest

Has nothing to do with that. It’s the Fascist Governor who instead of dealing with all the major problems Florida has right now wants to carry on like a child.

        3. Keith

Dennis… completely untrue statement and you know it.

      3. Mike

Florida needs Disney, Disney doesn’t need Florida.
I’d like to see how many voters still support that loonatic Desantis when he pushes the biggest employer out of Florida because he’s a asshole.

      4. Fred

Lost his freaking mind would be more like it.

    3. Amber

I am so sick of hearing about how Walt Disney World is making changes. I wish Walt we’re still alive he would stop all these things from happening. Desantis would not be able to just walk in and try to control things. Walt would not stand for it. I am no longer a fan of Walt Disney World. I will no longer be coming back to visit the park. It is really to bad that you guys have disappointed visitors from near and far. I would to see Disney come to Washington State.

      1. ELYSIANSTR

        Yes DeSantos is a fool.

      2. Fred

There is no way that Disney is going to even try to walk away from what is certainly 100’s of millions if not billions of dollars of investment in central Florida.

  2. Carrie I Duff

No no no!!! My vote for closing the monorail ever!!! Never, no.!!

All of the oldie but goodies must stay PLEASE!!!!!
From a real live true life Disney fan my entire life!

    1. Chris B

So by you not wanting monorails to close that means you are not for inspections? lol

      1. Keith

So you’re assuming Disney dosen’t already inspect their monorail?

      2. Ron Milner

The monorails are a icon like the castle .Please for the love of all who love all things Disney don’t shut the monorails down. The busses are inefficient

        1. LynneK

No entity outside Disney has more interest in keeping the park safe than WDW does. When I worked there in the 80s, the mantra was: Nobody dies at Disney. Reedy Creek has a very large EMT and Fire Rescue operation. WDW conducts rigorous inspections on a regular schedule … of everything. I’d ride on the monorail 100X vs. using one of Florida’s antiquated bridges even once.
This is just one more attempt by a petty little man to hurt WDW bc it didn’t kiss his ass. All this garbage is taking funds away from so many things in the state that desperately need attention and funding.

    2. Dennis Cox

If it’s unsafe because of no maintenance then shut it down until Disney fixes it.

Not sure if you have looked at the track but there are a lot of cracks forming in that concrete. Before reedy Creek had Disney’s best interest in mind not the publics safety.

      1. Paul

And what are your qualifications besides being a troll?

      2. Keith

I see cracks on every overpass I’ve ever driven over or under, yet the FDOT thinks they’re safe.

  3. Dawn Keibals

The monorail is not closing permanently.

  4. JoeNYWF64

What about the Peoplemover at D-world?

  5. Brad

I doubt it would be closed but the state has a right to impose inspections. Disney has to perform state safety inspections on all of their rides their rides. Whether they do it judiciously and report violations depends upon who you talk to–the company or their employees. Unless OSHA
is called in, you will never know.

    1. Suong

I agree with you that Disney should maintain required inspections as indicated by the state BUT shut down completely is a very sad situation. It s one of the icons when tourists come to visit Disney theme parks, and memories of the magical time that we spent with our kids and family at Disney parks

    2. Rick

so you are ok with Disney gouging everybody with the insane prices and all the new rules to enter. Not me they suck as far as I am concerned

      1. LAS

Are you implying that Disney not be able to engage in the free market economy and be forced to lower their prices so you can go ride Pirates of the Caribbean ?

      2. Chucky

Yes,they can charge what people will pay.

  6. Kimberley Gorum

The title of the article is very deceiving Nothing has come out of Disney suggesting the monorail might close!

    1. Anubis

That’s pretty common for this ‘newsletter.’ Lots of verbiage to make you scan past all the advertising.

  7. Mike C

I wish Iger and DeSantis would both realize that: Florida needs Disney Workd and Disney Workd needs Florida.
These two men, aka CRYBABIES, both need to grow up.
You don’t piss in each other’s Cheerios, should be the lesson learned!!!

    1. P

I really hope Disney moves out of Florida. This clown is making it so difficult for the park. Take your jobs and other income to a place that appreciates you.

      1. Do you even realize the monumental task that would be?? No this passing match needs to end!!!

    2. MorngConqr13

Desantis is the problem thinking he making Florida freer by imposing all these ridiculous laws Iger is being a big boy Disney will win , and that will be good . Desantis will make America weak if he were to become president is overseas trips were to try to make him look better sad .

  8. Judy

Unlikely the monorail would close permanently. The resorts on the monorail system charge a premium, and guests are willing to pay the premium.

In short, the monorail is a money maker.

  9. The Monorails MUST REMAIN! Ron DeSantis (Governor Puddin ) MUST GO! If he fouls up the Monorail he can kiss his sorry ass GOODBYE! Forever! Fini! KAPUT!

  10. Kris

Time to pause all expansion in Florida till DeSantis is gone. He is making it impossible to run a business.

    1. Dennis

Yeah Damn desantis is waiting safety inspectors to hold Disney to the same standards as all other theme park companies in Florida and if Disney fails one then it’s desantis fault.

You demoncRATs are one huge bowl full of crazy.

      1. John Smith

They are held to the same standards. The monorails are inspected regularly and not by Disney. But if you want to pay more taxes to support this DeSantis charade then Be Our Guest.

  11. JAF

If this is the way he runs his governorship can you imagine what he would do to our country, no way I’m voting for him. We don’t need a petty, revengeful president.

    1. Do you even realize the monumental task that would be?? No this passing match needs to end!!!

    2. Dennis

Yeah desantis forcing safety inspections to make sure the monorail is safe is a real bad thing for a leader to do. Certainly don’t want to vote for someone that cares about the safety of the people he represents.

  12. Angus

I can’t imagine how many safety and health violations they would find in ALL the parks and property!!

    1. LAS

You’re a special kind of silly. Disney isn’t the Church Carnival you work for ! Rides are closed down all the time for maintenance and if there’s even a hint of trouble. It’s in their best interest to ensure a safe experience for guests.

  13. Summer

Desantis is a petty moron. The monorail is iconic and necessary in WDW. I just wish it were maintained better and consistently run more. Back in 2015 when we stayed at the Contemporary tower, we barely got to use it because it was always broken down. With the outrageous prices we pay WDW, it should run efficiently 24/7.

  14. Scott

So we were at WDW during the marathon. The only transportation running was the monorail and boats. So no, this story is wrong.

  15. Robin

Disney has sided with the minority weak woke lately. By doing so, families are being left out. Park reservations, ending magical express, 2 pm park hopper rule, and doing away with the free fast pass. Disney profited extremely well back then. Now, look whats happening.

  16. Cody Archambault

WTF?! LEAVE THE MONORAIL ALONE YOU GREEDY MONSTERS! THE MONORAIL IS IMPORTANT TO ALL DISNEY VACATIONERS AND VISITORS! NO SHUTTING DOWN THE MONORAIL, EVER! #BANRONDESANTIS

    1. Dennis

If its not safe and Disney isn’t willing to repair it so it passes safety inspections so be it.

The fact you are mad desantis wants to make sure it is safe and mind boggling.

  17. jimbo

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,
So the complaint here is that instead of Disney doing inspections a third party will be doing it? Golly sure sounds like a good idea since it will mean that it may be that much more safe for all of us. Shut it down permanently just because it will need periodic inspections? How about everyone that lives in a state that requires car inspections you just put your car up in the garage because you do not agree with an inspection. Makes about as much sense. Disney has been funding and pushing gender propaganda in many things they have been doing lately. Yes they actually fund activist groups. So the great Governor of Florida passed a bill protecting our children. And that is a bad thing? What would be a great idea is if someone were to buy Disney World. Run it just like in Japan. Then all of you that are complaining about Florida requiring Disney to follows the rules can take your trips out to California. Although Disneyland might have a hard time even the lights on soon since Cali is going green. Maybe Tinkerbell can spread some fairy dusk on all the rides to keep them running.

    1. wdwfans

You are exactly right, well said!

    2. AlCrushU

Yeah…. So many horrific monorail accidents over the years.

  18. KMO

Seems like state inspecting Disney monorail would be a good safety idea to me. Am I missing something here ? Why oppose another outside inspection?

  19. Rebeccah

How much ya wanna bet the inspection will be from one of DeSantis supporters and find little Itty bitty things that cause no issues just to close it down.

  20. Johnny V

    Meatball Ron!

  21. Rob D.

I don’t know who this DeSantis person is. But tell him to leave Walt Disney World alone and put a sock in his mouth!!!

  22. BB-8

    Much Ado About NOTHING

  23. Mee

Lol and the 9th grade filler first paragraph or two on every article to make it look longer.

  24. Ken

So…..the state of Florida currently inspects all the other rail systems ,assuming responsibility for all the miles of track,as well as all the rolling stock? Or…maybe de santis only wants to inspect Disney equipment.

  25. Thomas

What sane business would want to be in Florida after the governor blatantly abused the powers of his office to destroy a business because he didn’t approve of their political speech?

Hope Disney sues him to bankruptcy.

  26. John

Walt would have already put out a hit on Desantis, hopefully someone will soon.

  27. Ted Baker

I trust Disney to operate this more than I trust goons reporting to the governor.

    1. How does Disney’s safety record compare to that of the condo inspectors?p

  28. Clement

The Problems Could Be That That The Qualified Workers Are Already On Social Sercurity Monthly Checks And The Working Increase In Wages Means Needs To Rise With Modern Economy From $1,770 Monthly or $21,000 Yearly To Have The Workforce Necessary To Repair, Replace and Redesign A Conducive Means For The American Pursuit of Happiness

  29. David Echegoyen

Tomorrow’s news: Ron DeSantis orders inspections for all buses that serve Disney world.

  30. Dee

I hope everything gets worked out! Customer safety 1st! Disney should Be able to comply with the inspection and afford the repairs! After All they do get a huge tax break From Florida! Also we use to pay only a little over $3 to enter the park! The fees for a family today are unreachable for most, this is not what Walt had in mind. I hope Disney World will do what’s right for their customers

    1. This is DeSantos made up problem. Disney has had the monorail without incident since 1971. DeSantos is just greedy. Disney brings tons if income to the horrid state of florida in hotels, taxis, lyft, restaurants, rental cars etc. Etc. This is DeSantos trying to get somethong for himself. A horrid governor.

      1. Jeff

Please give details on EXACTLY what the governor is trying to get when you say he will “get something for himself”

What does the governor personally “get”? If there are some sort of kickbacks to his personal bank account, please break that story for us

you certainly have every right to call him a horrid governor, but the people of Florida love him. Look at the election results

  31. Ray

It’s propaganda. The stat has been inspecting it as “transportation ” for years. Disney has complied for years. This whole story is just to get people ticked off on both sides.
    Monorail isn’t going anywhere.

  32. Fred

Fortunately the nutcase named Ron DeSantis won’t be in office much longer.

  33. Fred

You have not been to Disney world 100’s of times.

  34. JJade

I think if Disney begins layoffs at Disney World the unemployed could put more heat on DeSantis than any lawsuit. Playing hardball is the only way to go.

  35. Andy

DeSantis, take your hands off Disney. Leave it alone.

  36. Jeff

If the Florida government doesn’t appreciate what Disney is to Florida then the should leave I a 100% sure 47 of the lower 48 would love to have Disney in there states. People go to Florida for Disney world. Desantis is destroying Florida I just saw a news report that the Labor force is walking out no farm workers, no construction workers, truckers are about to boycott Florida it’s sad but funny Let the Floridian keep supporting him and watch what he cause the state.
