This is ridiculous, calling the scene woke. Remember the Bugs Bunny cartoons, where Bugs disguised himself as woman many times?

    1. Daryl-Rhys

Peach is the most many sue character ever. Shows how deluded people are.

      1. Kippy

Nah, still Rey from Star Wars

        1. SabinFFVI

Peach takes the cake for Mary Sue this time. In real mario movie he would have finished training course in 1 try but wth problems and peach would praise him for best 1st ever. Nooo peach is better than mario at everything and anything.

          1. AshTheVA

Well, you gotta think about this. Peach has lived there or her entire life. She has got a chance to get used to all of this. Mario is nothing but a regular guy from Brooklyn. This world is entirely new to him, so of course he’ll do bad at first, but by the end of the movie, he’s great, and arguably better than Peach. I’m sure that in the second movie, it’ll be more of a Mario Movie because this was just the “origin”

          2. Chickens

Peach has been playable since Super Mario Bros. 2, her kicking ass is nothing new. I don’t understand why people are getting triggered over it.

          3. BlackStar9000

Big Facts, go back and watch her on the Super Mario Show in the 80s and 90s and the Nintendo Power comics…

          4. cheesewiz680

            no, no it doesn’t

          5. Azul

It’s like Peach has been the hero in other Mario games, such as Super Mario Brothers 2 and Super Mario 3D World. She even had her own game called Super Princess Peach. And if you are whining about drag queen, wait until you find out how popular cross dressing bars are in Japan.

          6. GMehK

Literally all I have to say is, Peach had her own game, The Super mario show, and smash bros…

        2. Your Father

Yeah. For real. She needs at least 20 or 15 minutes with Yoda before she can fight a big bad evil relative…

      2. Masku627

You can’t say this is anti-woke. Kamik dressing up as peach has been in the game for a very long time so don’t sit there and say it’s a drag scene. Kamik has dressed up as peach and multiple games starting with super Mario Bros. Wii, super Mario Bros. Wii u and other titles.

        1. Chickens

You can PLAY as peach in Super Mario Bros. 2 and in a lot of the 2d games as well as 3D World

        2. Ryan

Can’t believe people actually are getting upset over this. They had to change the plot to fit the movie. Boo hoo. So what if Mario isn’t as strong as peach? Go play the games then if you’re going to throw a hissy fit about the movie.

        3. John H

Agreed. And my kids and I laughed. Because Kamik dressing as a girl is funny. It would only be woke if people think it’s brave that he did that. Not chuckled at how silly it is.

          1. Toad

Drag is meant to be funny. It’s camp, over the top… Drag shows are hilarious.

      3. Walker Matthew

She has lived there and trained for most of her life. Rey on the other hand never used a lightsaber or the force before the 7th movie and now all of a sudden she can kick ass. That’s a merry sue right there

      4. BlackStar9000

No, Peach is how she was in the late 80s early 90s Nintendo Power Magazines… A total beast and I love it, it’s why she’s always badass in Super Smash Bros and fun in Super Princess Peach 🍑👸, she’s a damsel but never in distress

      5. Griffin mooore

It’s actually because kamek is known for dressing up as a fake peach to fool mario. So NO it’s NOT a drag scene its people who stick to the source material!

      6. Kristopher Shafer

She had a balance between being a Mary Sue and a good supporting character.

    2. Alex

Bugs bunny dressed as a woman was drag too. Drag has a long history of having a light-hearted presence in comedy (e.g. Mrs. Doubtfire). It’s only recently been politicized by the anti-woke crowd, which is ironically also the free speech crowd (except when it hurts their feelings)

    3. Drew

Sounds like you remember them, and it “woke” something up inside you.

    4. Matthew

Yeah, man. We all remember when Bugs Bunny did that. That was drag. That’s what drag is. It’s dressing up in the clothes and makeup of another gender to make jokes about gender stereotypes.

It was funny when Bugs did it. It’s still funny now. No idea why so many people are freaking out about it all of the sudden.

      1. MD

Because in some cases the line between drag show comedy and sex show have been crossed, which is a problem when there are underage audience members present. Some have taken the normal reaction of repulsion to that and applied to all instances of drag in general, like Kamek here, which is silly. But they’re right to oppose sexualized content aimed at minors, which in recent history has included some drag shows.

If the writer of this article reaches any harder, they’re gonna dislocated their shoulder.

      1. Niner

That course was a training course. She aced it on her first try. You don’t train for training.

      2. Will

I nah man, that arm’s gonna come off if they reach any further

    6. Jesse

That’s the ridiculous part? F’n caveman brains, man..

  2. Tonya Medley

People who cry about things being woke aren’t worth listening to anyways.

    1. jkingsbery

The point of that scene, in case it went over your head, is how obviously ridiculous the characters in the scene were being. One would have to not seen the movie or be a partisan hack to not get that.

    2. DrCoeloCephalo

They actually are because wokeness is ruining Disney and western video games as well as their profits while many Japanese franchises appreciate art and do well. I hope The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Dreamworks Teen Kraken swim in a sea of money while The Little Mermaid flops worse than a stranded fish.

      1. ZENihilist

There doesn’t seem to be any consistent logic to what is or is not “woke”. Except of course for whom you are told to dislike for political reasons by your crap leaders. Stop being a sheep and just enjoy the things you enjoy & let others do the same.

        1. DrCoeloCephalo

No what “leaders” you are going on about. There kinda is a pretty consistent pattern. Usually it tends to be movies that completely ignore canon and fanservice by piggybacking off a popular thing, adding unnecessary checkmarks to appease mentally ill terminally online Twitter users that cry about “muh diversity”, insulting the fanbase and then crying about “istaphobes” when it flops.

          GhostBusters 2016 did it.

          Charlies Angels did it.

          Lightyear did it.

          Strange World did it.

It was especially BEYOND cathartic how Charlies Angels flopped while The Sonic Movie released around the same time and was heavily rewarded for respecting fan input by changing the design.

I sincerely hope I get to look forward to this pattern be repeated with The Little Mermaid.

  3. Nevar

No one cared because the movie didn’t do anything to draw attention to it or focus. It was just so natural to Bowsers goofiness.

    1. Pt

      Bossum buddies

  4. John

I wouldn’t call this scene *woke* however I have seen conservatives screaming over Peach being strong in the movie.

    1. Niner

It’s not about her being strong. She had no flaws and made no mistakes. Her character was utterly boring.

      1. DrCoeloCephalo

She failed negotiations with the Kongs on her own and Mario had to step in and she failed to protect her kingdom from Bowser like she promised and Mario had to step in.

  5. Chris Wood

Why the author of this article felt the need to bring up wokeness and dressing in drag is a mystery. It’s just a movie that is doing very well. Despite all the people crying about Chris Pratt.

  6. Mr.Stagg

Just take the L already, lefties. Mario isn’t woke and is going to make a billion dollars because of it.

    1. Matthew

I genuinely don’t even understand what ‘woke’ means, but Mario is going to make money because it was a genuinely funny kids movie that caters to the nostalgia of the generation that is currently having kids. That’s it. Nothing to do with wokeness.

      1. DrCoeloCephalo

Toy Story appeals to kids yet Lightyear (which pandered to the woke with African women kissing) flopped, was banned in several countries and alot of merchandising data shows kids are opting towards Japanese merch like Naruto over Lightyear merch when Toy Story merch was previously incredibly successful.

    2. Doggo

Pretty sure it’s conservatives getting their panties in a knot over it, but yeah, I agree

  7. A Person

Can people stop being so damn sensitive and trying to cancel everything? I hate this generation

  8. Anonymous

    Anti woke?
    Just like me

  9. Weavile

Why does it matter if it’s “woke” or not lol it’s a cartoon movie made for children it’s not that deep 🤣

  10. Buck

Why does every movie and show these days have to include something that is not a straight cisgender relationship? Not that it’s a bad thing to have in any way but not every piece of media needs to include it

    1. Southernboisb

      “Buck
Why does every movie and show these days have to include something that is not a straight cisgender relationship? Not that it’s a bad thing to have in any way but not every piece of media needs to include it”

So, we have to ONLY show heterosexual people /relationships & ignore anything ekse exists? BTW, how far back should we go…also eliminate interracial things?

      1. Rick

Life was a bit simpler before every one started wearing panties just so they could get em up in a bunch over nothing.

      2. DrCoeloCephalo

Japanese media is better at all of the above cuz they do it for organic and artistic reasons as opposed to western media doing it for brownie points and checkmarks.

The day where I finally don’t have to hear any culture war buzzwords will be a joyous occasion. Please spare me.

I think I’m done with insidethemagic. So determined to be victims here. It’s truly obnoxious.
