Things change. I always thought it was a nice ride. I laughed when my kids got wet and complained about it. They were usually dry by the time we got on the next ride. Florida does that to you. I do hate that the “wokeness” of Disney may have contributed to this reimagining. I enjoyed the music. How could you get off that ride and not be smiling? Zippedy do da…..

    1. Mindy

This was in the works since 2018.

    2. Mary

Agreed. I’m sorry so many people decided to take offense where non was intended, thus teaching and spreading hate. I’ll miss the fun characters and the award winning music. I’m not very excited about The Princess & the Frog reimagining…it was just ok and the music wasn’t very memorable in my opinion.

      1. Just happy that their leaving theDr and his Voodoo crap out of it

        1. Melissa

The Dr. And “his voodoo crap” are a huge cultural part of New Orleans, then and now. Also if you feel that way then why aren’t you commenting about Mama Odie? She practices as well. Not to mention Voodoo is an integral part of the movie. Why should it not be included?

Oh my gosh I wish people would get over this ‘woke’ silliness–the facts are:

      1) it was a ride in need of millions of dollars of refurbishment since it was nearly 40 years old. Most of the animatronics didn’t work, riddled with mold throughout (as any dark, hot, wet area in Florida is bound to be) and just in a sorry state. If you’re already spending that much you seriously might as well update the IP altogether to something that maybe needs a push but is at least more recent.

      2) Peter Pan is still very much as not ‘woke’ as they come, recently got a refurbishment and all that happened with the Native Americans was they got a fresh paint job. There’s other examples very much against this ‘woke’ silliness, but that’s the easiest and most recent.

      It’s always about money, people.

Even though we live in upstate NY I’ve been blessed with 6 wonderful trips to Disney World with my family, the last of which was October 2021. We were able to experience the Parks when they were at their peak (magic express, extra magic hours, free fast pass). The last ride I went on was Splash Mountain with my daughter. We were the last boat out before the ride closed, and as we came to the outside part at the top of the ride we had a perfect view of the fireworks. This will be the last memory I have at Disney World, as we do not intend on going back again, and it will always be a cherished one between my daughter and I.

      2. Gary Michaels

Just not right. Splash mountain was THEE most popular ride in Florida. You don’t close that, you update and upgrade it while keeping the theme and beloved music. Because you don’t want to acknowledge cancel culture and how it’s ruling the rich corporate ruling class, in no way means this isn’t a “woke” debacle. It’s hilarious you say it’s about the money because you’re absolutely right for the wrong reason. A very loud, very screwed up, very obnoxious subculture has convinced the corporate “elites” that they’d better pray at the woke altar or else. Or else the mob will threaten profits. Because the other side just takes it and never makes people like Disney pay for gouging and disappointing us.

        1. Nate

You do know what movie that ride was based off of right? You’re just throwing around that keyword “wokeness” like the animatronics themselves. If you actually thought about the change for a second you would realize it was needed instead of buying into some conservative mumbo jumbo to get up into arms over lol

    4. Kelly Davis

Disney is turning off many families with it’s wokeness

    5. Me

Woke Disney at it’s finest. Destroying everything that was good. Mickey Mouse will be next.

  2. No name

Hi do you think that this all thus should be done .do you ever wonder if Walt himself would do all this to a park I don’t think so

  3. Nameless

I am sorry that Disney has given into this. There was nothing wrong with the ride. What’s wrong is what is going on in the country. Disney should have stood their ground and not given in to wokeness.

    1. Mindy

Grow up. Wokeness is change, and it’s here whether you like it or not. Feel free to stay asleep as the world moves on without you.

      1. Soleil

Agreed Mindy! And what’s more beautiful than TIANA?! I personally cannot wait to see the new version 🙂

      2. Donna

Wokeness is destroying our country so why don’t YOU wake up before these woke fools take over entirely!

        1. Kelly Davis

Couldn’t agree more. What a waste of money getting rid of such a fun ride. Wokeness is just a way to create division.

        2. Nancy

It’s just ridiculous. The ride was amazing- a classic & should have been kept the way it was. YOU CAN’T CHANGE HISTORY PEOPLE. Right or wrong it’s in the past. Learn from the past & move on. Stop trying to change it. I’ve ridden the ride a hundred times- I’m a local. Never knew the story. Just enjoyed the ride as an amazing, upbeat, fun ride.

      3. TrekRelic

        BOOM! There you have it..
        CHANGE for the better

It used to be less than 100 years ago children could buy cigarettes and work a full time job
        Change for the better

        1. Kae

Woke Woke Woke wokeness so woke your just Woke Woke this Woke that WOKEEEEEEEEEE….. Shut it!!! No more “woke”! You already woke me up!

First, “Woke” in the context its being used is NOT in the English Dictionary, so does EVERYONE have to use it for EVERYTHING? It has become the catch all word for everything. Second, some of us love CLASSIC Disney, and would like to see some of our childhood preserved, not everything needs to be torn to shreds just to have the newest crap available. How do you think Mr. Walt Disney would see this if he were alive today? I swear if you ue the word woke, i’ll smack ou with his vry own glove! Some of us like showing our children, and grandchildren things that we had fun on/with, before it tossed to the Haunted Mansion graveyard. (if you know, you know) It seems we can’t hold onto anything anymore. Its ALL got to go, ripped out, thrown away, just because its not blasting in your ears, or lights so brght you go blind! There’s so much open space, that plenty can be built without ripping out Disney World’s roots. It’s saddening that this even has to be said. Shame, shame, shame. Sure, you can “hate on me” all you want! When it all sinks because everything has to be big, bright, and full of robots (yes this is actually happening) then there will be no more Disney for anyone. I hang my head, it’s a sad, sad, day that we can’t share our childhood with our children, just as words that already have a meaning in the Dictionary, are just blabbed about in online debates, but then again, coming from a generation that can’t read script, or solve an algebraic equation, what am I to expect. RIP Splash Mountian ole gal, you and many others will always be beloved rides, in our hearts.
          Former Disney imagineer, and enthusiast,
          Kae & Family

          1. Hazel

It’s been full of robots for a LONG time.

          2. Keygan

I am with you on this. Drives me crazy hearing that word and here in Fl it is used out of context way too much. So sick of the childish fighting and divisive hate speech.

          3. Linda

            You said it all perfectly!
I’m so sad that all the fun of the innocent classics that we grew up with, shared with our children and our grandchildren has been viewed in a whole new way. That way is destroying everything good and fun and turning it into something ugly, then be torn down and replaced.
Why do people have to pick things apart and read into it for something is isn’t? Then destroy it all to make it correct to conform in the new way of thinking.. it would be so much nicer to add the new things to the classics.
If you don’t like it, do not go! No one if forcing you all to go. Go somewher else that conforms to your “woke” nonsense!
I wish Disney would ignore all those who want to change everything Walt wanted for all of us big and small, old and young.

        2. Yeah, now we we have illegal limmigrant child labor. Obviously much better.

      4. You sound like you are still asleep! This wokeness is an act of evil against our children!

      5. Wokeness isnt change nor change for the better, it’s simply having a temper tantrum over nothing to achieve a menial result no one really wanted simply to feel good about yourself. All woke people today are simply no talent, no skill, no aspiration having cry babies with survival guilt that the previous generations had to fight for so much and this one doesn’t. How about being contributional to society with a real skill and job to further us technologically instead of thinking your social gripes actually matter to anyone.
In the words of older generations, “get a job hippy”. If these woketards had actual skills and determination on things that mattered we could prob all be a lot better off in life.

      6. Rox

Is it not possible to have a conversation where people don’t agree with you WITHOUT being demeaning and insulting?

        1. Rox

This posted in the wrong place. I intended this reply for the “grow up” comment.

  4. Dan

Disney are cowards that pander to all the whining. I respect Universal a lot more — some people were whining about the size requirements for their new Super Mario Kart ride = Universal basically told them to kick rocks. It’s about damn time.

  5. That Disney Guy

    New title:

Disney making quick progress in brining it’s newest attraction to Magic Kingdom.

  6. Mike L

There are a lot of people who blame updates and changes on anything other than the financial considerations at the core of any business decision. People who complain about “woke-ness” sound a lot like people who complained about integration 60 years ago. Sometimes change is hard, but change is inevitable.

    1. Mindy

      Exactly

  7. Briana

There is no Magic Kingdom experience without Splash Mountain 😭 If I read the article right the new version won’t be a water ride anymore..? That sucks especially since our weather made splash mountain a necessity with the exception of a couple months out of the year. I’m sure the ride will be nice but I’m still mad they tamed the escaped alien into stitch. Doesn’t make it scary anymore. Lol

    1. Mindy

Incorrect. It will still be a water ride.

    2. SKIPLANDRY

It wasn’t splash mountain before it became splash mountain. THANKS for highlighting your age group.

  8. Mindy

I’m excited. I love change, and I predict this ride will be gorgeous on top of fun and interesting. Given only two classic remain, it’s clear people get over it and keep going. It’s always so crowded!! I wish they’d do a Tangled ride with the floating lanterns scene.

  9. Julie Ellefson

I have been to Disney World several times since 1976. I confess I am a child at heart and will be until I die. I’ve seen the birth of Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood. It breaks my heart to see so much disappear from the original park.
To me, being Woke is synonymous with educated. What it isn’t meant to be is negative, that is a political move. For anyone to be able to control what is in the parks because a few are offended is crazy. Like my parents used to say, “if you don’t like it, don’t go”.

    1. Ej

Exactly: my family and I were fortunately enjoyed Disney at the right time – you wokeness will enjoy- until karma will bite your kind in the ass

  10. Deb

The author loves to sensationalize whatever he writes, and Frankly, it’s boring. The ride is old, it needs to be re-themed, and it has been in the works for several years.

  11. Misty

It truly breaks my heart to see changes. I understand that this is part of life. The classics are still alive and being loved by so many just as much as the newer generation. Walt’s motto is “ Keep Moving Forward.”

  12. Clare

I loved the ride the way it was. New theming does not make sense

  13. Roger Stevens

First time in all my years going to Disney, that will not ride a new ride. Disaapointed at Disney execs caving in to a a domastic terrorit group.

  14. James

I really thing Disney Magic Dieed years ago, at least it did for me with the loss of 20,000 leads and Mr Todde’s wild ride. Was not the greatest fan of Splash Mountain but would try to ride it when I went to the park. But as tickets broke $100.00ea I really have not been back to the park. They charge prices an Average weekend visitor can not afford. They make so much money and gouge you wherever they can. Even Parking is ridiculesly overpriced. 70s and 80sand even on and off through the 90s would go up to Disney couple times a year. I am only in Fort Lauderdale so is like a 3 hour drive for me. Have lost interest in Disney. Early 00s did the Universal thing few times a year but since 2010 just no desire to drop $1000.00 on a weekend jaunt. Disney has so much land and makes so much money on tourists they can easily afford to Expand but just dropping older rides to create newer ones is nothing but greed in my mind. Add a new area like they did in the 70s and 80s if they want a movie bases area. Those movies do lose interest over a decade or two but thos of us who grew up in 70s and even early 80s will not even recognize parts of the park anymore. They need new magic yes but quit demolishing and recreating areas that have many family memories impeded it a certain time from our youth are still important to every day we live. Sorry Disney back when you Turned 20,000 leagues into Areol’s Groton and then to this day have done nothing remotely productive with that area you lost a 2 to 3 times a year visitor.

  15. William

What a woke company. Change for just change (wokeness) is not good. Change for innovation and progress is invigorating. Not all Change is good. We used to go to Disney every year. Have not been there in 10 years and will never go back until they “CHANGE” I have the money and power and will not empower or enrich Disney. GET UNWOKE!

  16. Todd

Doesn’t matter to me since I’m never going there. I refuse to get ripped off by them and their astronomical overpricing of everything.

  17. Eileen

Disneyland is way overpriced. I have been to Disneyland a few times, but there are currently two reasons that I will never go to anything owned by disney corporation ever again. Number one is that they charge way too much and second, as a Bible believing born again Christian, I cannot condone the fact that they have decided to more or less embraced the homosexual lifestyle. God said that homosexualty is a sin and I nor my family will not support anyone that says that homosexuality is fine.

  18. Hector gomez

    Ezekiel 7

  19. ROGER D STEVENS

Maybe a Hurricane will end that rides future before it starts [As long as no one gets hurt], Disney has been smashing alot of dreams lately to kiss certain groups Bung Hos. I will never ride it. I rather keep riding It’s A Small World.

  20. Alicia

“Princess Naveen” seems about as woke as ever lol
