Try and plan with your party before time. If there are discrepancies then do things separate on those days. You can advise but don’t be forceful. They’ll eventually see how a good Disney planner will benefit all after the first trip.
We decided that a vacation should be a time of worry free enjoyment.
We stopped going to Disney when the hotel guests were allowed to aquire Disney+ tickets 90 days in advance leaving the casual and annual pass visitors basically locked out of the better rides unless
They chose to wait in lines that could be two or more hours long. When a vacation becomes a chore full of headaches and you can’t wait to get back home that’s when you cross it off your list.
I have been a Disney vacation club member for 20 years and it has become the most stressful vacation a person can take. You have to have a reservation ahead of time just to enter a park and then reservations for certain rides and then dinner reservations. It use to be fun to go a wander around, change parks on a whim, but no more.
We also could use our points for trips twice a year, now we are lucky if we have enough points for every other year. So sad.
Amen, so true, in just 8 years, the Disney experience has changed.
For the new people, this is the normal, for the veteran Disney folk, this is not the way it was or maybe the way it should not be. Some people are lucky and hit the parks on a slow weekday, which is never a guarantee anymore, but happens on occasion.
I plan last minute trips all the time to Disney we’re residents. This person is crazy having every minute planned. We do what we want when we want it don’t do rope drops don’t cause chaos and enjoy every time we go. It’s called a vacation for a reason.
Nicole,
Great you are residents and this is NOT your once in a lifetime experience for your family, costing upwards of 6 to 10k for a vacation.
We used to be annual ticket holders to Disneyland and no planning, just get there, knowing that next month we could go back and do what we missed last month.
So many people think have to do everything. Disney World is to big for that. You need to pick out what is most important to everyone in the group & do those things & plus plan down time together @ the hotel pool. It’s a vacation not a marathon. We have done it both ways and the latter was the most fun
Hi, I went to Disney world in 2014 with my sister and again in 2016 with my four-year-old grandson. Both times were great vacations. I did do some planning for both of them so that we could go Star Wars weekend and see particular shows that you had to sign up for. I also did some for the vacation with my grandson to make sure that he got a private visit with Mickey mouse. However I wanted to take my now another grandson who is six to Disney world this summer before he’s out of you know believing and Mickey mouse. However after reading all these comments and looking at everything you have to do, I’m having second thoughts. I get that things change and they are always trying to improve things sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. However like other people have said it’s going to be $3,200 to take two boys to Disney world now. We’re going for two days at Disney. We’re staying in a hotel for 7days. So it’s still really expensive to do that. If we went to Disney all seven days I wouldn’t be able to afford it. Plus that does not include airline tickets or food. So, I’m really in a quandary as to what I should do about this. I don’t want the boys to have a bad experience because of all the crappy things that have gone on in the past couple years. So I’m on the fence on this. To go, or not to go, that is the question
I have been a DVC member since 05. We have sold all but 100 points over the last 4 years. It is not worth the stress or time to plan. Then get there and the rides are down. People are aggravated and put a damper on everyone’s mood. Cast members were very pleasant in Dec/Jan. But our trip in march last year they were nasty and testy. Wouldn’t help and straight out not happy. We are giving fort wilderness camp ground a try. But no annual passes not worth remaining a DVC member. Had to pay for tickets last March 2700.00. This trip June 2900.00. Heck that’s our annual passes. If the camping works. We may just return once every 3 years. And we don’t ever make rope drop with two handicap people in the family.
A Disney World vacation is more work, planning and hassles that it’s worth. At one time it was enjoyment and excitement but it’s been replaced laced by reservations to walk and stand in lines, no walk in restaurants at MK, staff rudeness and overcrowding. I’m a DVC member and could not get a room for over a year. Allowing DVC owners to rent their points for a profit hurts the room availability process and park profits. Get it together because I’m ready to sell.
If you were my sister I wouldn’t want to go with you. Who says you get to dictate “rules” for bedtimes and shoes for another grown adult? You must be a “treat” to travel with on vacation.
J
WDW is now a planning chore. Tennis shoes or walking shoes are a necessary (not optional) to prevent blisters, protect your walking ability’s which are miles each day. When to get up, early bird catches the worm or should I say able to get on the rides. When to eat??? better have made sit down reservations 3 months prior.
Now if you want a relaxing vacation, no schedule, no rules, then go camping!
Read all the different help guides to visit WDW and what she did for her family is the correct thing to do. Now if they are staying in their own hotel, eating separately, and maybe just meeting up for a late meal, then to each their own. As a group, one has to plan and take lead.
Have a family meeting & show why these “rules” are important for all their sakes. The other sisters seem to have no idea of the “new” rules & restrictions. Show them & explain to them why. If all involved still want to go then they should decide which areas might be a group thing and which might be a separate thing.
Main reason to go is to have fun whether its a group or a single.
We used to go to WDW yearly or every other year. The last time was 12/2019 when my daughter’s cheer team went to Nationals at WDW. This was the last time we went. The more I have read about Disney over the past 3 years, the more I am sure I will never return. They have received nearly $30,000 from 2014 to 2019 from my family and they won’t get ONE dime from me from now on. I used to LOVE planning the trip, the princess dinners, the Fast Passes…it was exciting. Now its all about screwing the customer for every damned dime they have. We even thought about DVC at one point. Thankfully we passed! Disney can kick rocks. I even ended my Disney+ subscription. Disney is done in my family. Its sad, really, because it used to be such a “magical” place.
I am a lifetime Disney Adult. Saying adult, I went with a friend for my high school graduation to Disneyland back in 1971. Never got to go as a youngster.
First time to Disneyworld was in 1991, when my parents paid for a trip for my daughter 4yrs old and myself.
The planning we did was basically, air, hotel and tickets. The crowds were normal, ride waits 15 to 30 minutes.
Me and my wife went a few more times after that.
2015 we went for our Anniversary of 25yrs. Planning? Airfare, hotel and tickets were the planning we did. Once we got to WDW, we attempted to get reservation at Beast’s Castle, and got lunch reservations, but then they closed down serving lunch. That was the only meal reservation we had to make which was a disappointment.
2020, trip was getting to be, more planning than ever. Pick all your meal reservations 6 months in advance. This was end of February and it was raining a few days, and parks were not crowded. Rope drop was easy, 1 hour prior to opening first in line! Only ride you had to pick was “rise of the residence” and this was 7am on your phone. There was still Fastpass and life was GOOD!
Trip to Disney Feb 2022, we heard about Genie+ and Lightning lane, planned months ahead, which park each day, what hotels we stayed in, (2 different ones) what time we would eat and where with reservations. We had a hundred page binder full of information on our trip. Oh by the way rope drop 1hr 30 min and line was about 2000 people ahead of us. Bus line at hotel was like waiting in line for a Disney ride.
Over the years the planning, just became more of a chore. Smart phone in hand (mandatory) schedule (check). What time will we be eating to see what rides are available at 7am to schedule on both Genie+ and Lightning Lane. Check to see what rides we can get, and hopefully be able to get at least “2 E ticket” rides a day.
From 2015 when the ‘Smart Phone’ was a tool, then fast forward to 2020 when it became “the way of life” the relaxing vacation took a turn to the stress of getting on the bandwagon, and hoping the daily schedule would work! Plan Plan Plan
I have always refused to do rope drop or leaving my room before 10 am and will continue to do so. If I haven’t rode the ride or experienced this or that oh well.

Don’t tell me how to vacation and I won’t tell you either.
If that means we do things separately and just meet up at times, so be it.
A vacation should not be stressful.
