I believe Disney could make an awesome sequel by going back and telling a prequel story to Curse of the Black Pearl.
How did Barbosa and Jack first meet, details on curse, bootstrap Bill and his son, how Gibbs and Jack met, the mutiny that deserted Cap’n Jack, how and why Calypso was caught and bound, etc. Just rewatch Black Pearl and you’ll likely come up with many questions too.
Disney could then parlay this prequel into a reboot if properly cast. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with all the comments about JD as Cap’n Jack but part of the magic was also Rush as Barbosa whom Disney killed off sadly.
Disney also didn’t have the foresight to keep Blackbeard or his daughter alive for future movies. Ian McShane and Penelope Cruz were great in their roles.
IMHO, Disney needs to stop pushing forward in the timeline and get back to the basics.
