Let’s be honest. To be “offended” by that is pretty pathetic. What are the odds on someone even thinking about blackface in reference to that movie (other than the one snowflake).
Stop looking for reasons to be offended. People like that are taking all the joy out of life.
Milton Burl did it for a comedy schtick – these morons and mentally ill people want to be women. BIG DIFFERENCE. Oh and Milton wasn’t in the business of grooming our children.
Oh my word, then what is drag? I don’t know of any women who dress and act like drag queens. And what is the reason for drags reading books to kids in a library? Of course drag is making fun of women, another person commented that drag is for comedy, if so, what is the comedy of? could only be a comedy of women. and if it is not, then black face doesn’t mock blacks. Would you say All Jolson was mocking blacks?
Agreed! It seems that some people just aren’t happy unless they are complaining and looking for things to complain about. Let’s just stop being critical about every little thing that hasn’t been offensive for decades. Why is it offensive now, all of a sudden? 🙁
OMG!!!!! Can we just shut up already. There is nothing offensive about this attraction. Everyone needs to stop getting their undies in a bunch. There are way more things to worry about than this!!!!!!!!!
I have been on this ride many many times and when I heard this I had to laugh in .my mind never even went there where is your mind maybe you have a problem.
On the other hand…….Blacks should be grateful for slavery !!! It is substantiated in books on sub-Saharan history that many of the individules sold into slavery were the losers in the on-going tribal wars. Early on, the losers were served for dinner; canabalism was a means of sustanence back then ! How many of the almost 40 million Blacks currently in the U.S. A. would be alive today if they hadn’t been transported to the Western hemishpere ???
BTW, only 350K were landed in the colonies/USA.
Please leave it alone!! Pretty soon nothing original will left at the magical place. This ride is about progress and change. I seen this has child and my family love it!!! I got to experience this with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Different ages some adults and children. They love it!!!
I totally agree It’s ridiculous to be offended by something like that it’s been there for many many years and no one has said anything. It seems every time you turn around someone is offended by somethen. I think you should stop it leave the right alone. And yes stop looking for reasons to be offended.
So because one random person has a spicy opinion, it’s worth writing an article amd riling up the old people with nothing better to do than complain about the complaint and paint broad strokes on swaths of people on a theme park forum? Interesting.
It’s like getting a little sick of the left constantly putting down so many things from the past. Read the comments! duh. that’s why I will say I don’t understand why the left aren’t putting down the womenface drag queens. That’s OK, but not blackface. such creeps the left.
You can excuse yourself RIGHT out of the door to the RIGHT if you want to make this about politics. My (LEFTist) view is the complaint about the article and the retheming of a ride based on non racial characters in non racial scenes are ridiculous. Please keep your hate elsewhere.
You are so right, drag is not offensive to race, but drag is offensive to me as a woman. Men pretending to be women in a creepy way, that I don’t want my kids to see, but that is OK with the left. But it is not OK to pretend to be black.
Wow….did you get mommy’s dictionary out but not know how to use it? Bet you’re one who’s offended…… It’s usually the name callers who are the whiners and offended by the world….
One person’s opinion doesn’t get to justify the conclusion of a ride that has literally been around for decades. People are now finding things to be upset about.
Absolutely not; Leave it alone.
The complaint in this article should not justify a retheme. But I also think the retheming of a ride based on non racial characters in non racial scenes is ridiculous.
Oh my word, then what is drag? I don’t know of any women who dress and act like drag queens. And what is the reason for drags reading books to kids in a library? I think it’s sad that this was even an article written, and that we continue to fuel this society who is offended by everything and anything. To be offended years later about a line from a movie that is in a ride at Disney is absurd. We cannot erase history. It is what it is we should not be offended by it and the reference to this movie, and that ride has nothing to do with black face and an intent to be offensive. This crap needs to stop NOW
Agreed. This is getting a little ridiculous with every little thing being offensive. I’ll have to go back and watch my old recordings of this attraction and see how it plays out. I didn’t like the changing of the theme song from “The Best Time of Your Life” to “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” but I took it in stride and got used to it. Grow up and put your offensiveness to things that really matter.
Unbelievable! If you’re offended by that then don’t go in it. Disney has already caved to the one percent and angering everyone else. If you’re going to find offense with everything then just stay home.
It represents history of technology in the context of societal norms of the time. It provides an opportunity for us to contemplate how we have changed. It also reflects the greatness of this country. It should remain as it is.
The next article will be about how they changed the knot on the rope in the dungeon scene on Pirates of the Caribbean where the pirates are trying to lasso the dog with the keys in it’s mouth. At one time it was a hangman’s knot, and now it is a slip knot. The hangman’s noose was offensive….
Come on. Enough is enough. Leave Carousel of Progress alone. It is Walt’s history and it stood for Disney and the history of progress in the US. Why is everyone trying to do away with the American History ? We learn from our history. Leave it alone.
Im a very liberal person and know this is not offensive.Just who are the woke left? Those who believe in Equal rights? No discrimination.?
That makes the rest the rest of you are redneck hillbillies.
When did we become a generation of snowflakes and pansies who have to be “offended” by everything? Get over yourself people, there is nothing offensive in this ride nor was splash mountain. This is what’s wrong with this country. We get upset over a line in a script but it’s ok to let Men dress up like “women” and parade around young kids like it’s ok. Maybe when this country figures out it’s values we can all love along and live better lives.
Well said I am sick and tired of everyone being offended by everything and it doesn’t fit me greatly that they change everything over a few snowflakes and pansies being offended
It’s not a generation – it’s the loudest people who like to hear themselves talk. People just need to let people do whatever they want as long as it isn’t hurting anyone and shut up and mind your own damn business.
The complaint in this article should not justify a retheme. But I also think the retheming of a ride (Splash Mountain) based on non racial characters in non racial scenes is ridiculous.
Keep removing history and what are you going to do when the history that you want to removed repeats itself. These easily offended people are going to ruin this country.Ps the world will never be perfect and life is short stop complaining and just enjoy life.
How many know that the Carousel of Progress began at the New York Worlds Fair in 1964. It was on of many programs Disney used to perfect their animatronics. I was lucky enough to be able to see the first Carousel of Progress thanks to my parents taking me to see the worlds fair. Until now I have never heard anyone talk about being offends by this ride. I believe the you people in this country need to start worrying about the larger things in this world than a certain line in a ride at Disney World that half the world will never hear or see. You are destroying people’s childhoods just because something offends you.
Yea, to redo Carousel of Progress is ridiculous. We have been going to Disney Parks for over 40 years. Leave it alone. If you don’t like it, stay home.
This kind of attitude is getting way out of hand. Remember, Walt said on dedication of Disneyland, “… and the hard facts which have created America…”. Same applies to Splash Mountain. This kind of crap is making me want to dump the new Disney atmosphere and just stay home and watch “Song of The South.” Walt approved that movie, why can’t we?
Everyone is offended by something, name one thing that has 100% agreement by everyone. We can’t change everything because someone is offended. Stop trying to get your 5 mins of fame by creating issues that really don’t matter to the majority of people.
I went to the Worlds Fair in ‘64 & ‘65 and went to this attraction multiple time each visit.
Even at 15 years old, I was aware of Al Jolson & his career and that he did the first ‘talkie’ . . .
Blackface never enters into it as far as this section of the show goes. Not on your mind as you listen to the story. And was not even a consideration in the context of mentioning the historical event of talking pictures as part of the ‘script’.
Chill out! There are far more important social problems in this world than adding something you find offensive onto a perfectly innocent story. . . Pick your battles more carefully, because you lost this one!!!!
No it’s not. No attraction is problematic but you yourself are problematic. The only thing that needs to be removed is freaks like you who are undesirables and not welcome at Disney theme parks. We real Disney fans demand the Carousel of Progress stay and will keep it ourselves.
This one gave me a chuckle. “Outdated” references in the carousel of PROGRESS? Yeah, of course things will seem dated, since that’s kind of the idea behind the attraction. We as a society have come so far since the turn of the century, both technologically and socially. Besides, as pointed out, the line is not referencing the film because of the blackface, but because of the fact that it was the first of its kind, and has major significance in television history.
Unless people take the time to look up who and what they are referencing in that scene; this is a waste of energy to be upset about.
I think this is getting blown out of proportion and should we really should try to leave atleast one ride that Walt Disney designed himself alone. Change is fine and changing offensive things has its place. But this is *one line* in *one ride*. A random throw away, no one is going to notice or take a lot of time to be upset about. Find something better to yell about please.
Just stop it. Ignore the critic. Rather than waste money on that kind of whining, Disney should invest in ride maintenance so it does not break down so often.
I think it should be updated. It’s great to see “old” technology and see how far we have come but I swear they removed one section in the past to update the future one. I think they could always highlight the more recent past and then the current future isn’t the last one (which is just almost like the present except we don’t have colonies on Mars just yet) and create a new future one with technology that is being developed but not ready for the public yet to use. It would be cool to see what is coming in the last section. But keep the same song. I love that song. There is just something calming about the song and it’s positive message. It’s a great big beautiful tomorrow…. when you are looking at what great technology is being created for the good of humanity. Even stick something in about recycling. I can see why someone would be upset by the original scene talking about a movie with black face character. I wish I noticed it and not have been so uneducated when I went on the ride the last time. I think I was too busy looking at the technology and not really listening to what was said. Don’t get rid of the ride. Update it, modernize it, futurize it. Thanks!
Just stop already,if it’s not one thing it’s another. Everyone is offended by something now and I mean Everyone,if you don’t like something then don’t go see it or don’t listen to it, not Everyone wants to see it all changed
I am getting sick and tired of this crap. If you don’t like it go back to where you came from. Grow up babies and leave our heritage alone. And as for Song of the South, the gentleman won an Oscar for it. Just because these idiots didn’t like the ride simple go ride the kiddie cars and it stays the way it is! And stop shoving this black crap down our throats. If they rename and change it I will never ride that racist crap.
“should remove what’s outdated…” It’s called The Carousel of Progress, the whole idea is a demonstration of going from what was outdated to what may be the future
. If your going to wake up mad then LOOK for a reason, go no further than the mirror, that should keep you busy for at least a decade or two.
Hardly any modern person thinks of blackface in connection to this film. It’s there yes, and Jolson did it. But the ride is about history, technology and electricity. Even at the time it was made people mentally separated out that part as irrelevant to the point the ride was making. It’s in the ride because talking motion pictures is a massive tech leap. The ride doesn’t endorse or condem racism. It’s irrelevant to the message the ride is making. You can use tech to send all sorts of messages. Do you tell the people of 2332 that they can’t make a note of social media without discussing it’s loaded with junk that’s problematic? And don’t expect deep discussion like your talking to a therapist. This is edutainment meant to sort of give you clifts notes in a fun humm-able way .
Really though?? Was the author really truly offended? Or just just pointing out one more reason to join the “I’m offended club”?. I can’t imagine this person getting up and shaking their head upon the obscene and offensive nature of such a thing.
People need to take a step back and calm down. There is absolutely nothing to get offended by with an INDIRECT mention of a nearly 100 year old film. 🙄
Ugh. I’m offended that people are offended by things that don’t offend me. Ridiculous. You cannot erase history. It happened. You don’t have to like it. You don’t have to talk about it. But others still can and will. You can have your opinions just like everyone else can. Mine opinion is that your opinion shouldn’t motivate, require or suggest a multi-billion dollar company to change anything.
My family which is mixed white and black love this ride, we go on it everytime we go to Disney. It is historical…people need to get a grip and stop being so sensitive about history. If it bothers you don’t ride it..Keep moving forward and make new history..
Why do people have to look for something to complain about? There is no other place better to learn the history of inventions in a fun way with a catchy song!!! My grandchildren love to go to the Carosel of Progress.. They ask me about the inventions, different kinds of stoves, refrigerators, etc. I had never in all of the times, over 70, that I have been on the ride ever thought about the “talkiing picture by Al Jolson” being blackface and offensive to me it was the history of talking pictures coming into history.
I was privledged to see the ride at the New York Worlds Fair and have loved it since then. Let’s look at the positives of the ride rather than trying to make something controversial.
The author of this “article” is everything that’s wrong in society today. It’s a ludicrous reddit post by one moron but people like the author give it credence and put it in front of more eyes. More despicable “journalists” do the same and before you know it Disney is caving to this nonsense and changing it because one person was offended.
and then there was world peace because we rid the world of Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben and Dr. Suess and The Song of the South and now this. Just don’t go if you are offended.
Disney needs to take a stand and stop ruining attractions one after another. IF YOU DON’T LIKE OUR ATTRACTIONS DO NOT COME TO OUR PARK. We like it the way it is. Getting rid of Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is ridiculous. Might as well get rid of Mickey & Minnie !
How about you keep being offended and just stay the heck off of the ride? No one has forced you to go on it, so if you don’t like the script then don’t ride it again. I am 100% sick and tired of people whining about things that do not involve them.
To be offended by this ride, you might as well say
You are offended by all history anything from yesterday back dose not exist, there no such thing as long-term memory ( unless it agrees with your personal view of the world, anything you see as your own personal view of being right.)
I seen other comment yes , he who forgets history is doom to repeat it.. but now it is said forget history , just rewrite it to one personal liking. Can we stop rewriting history. History happened as it was you may not like it, it may not be to your liking, but it happen, just stop. History does not change just because it does not meet your point of view. Just remember some one else could rewrite your history because it does not meet there point of view. IE- the world is flat , Holocaust did not happen, only black(not Chinese, Irish or any body else) were slave, US only drop the bomb to send sign to Russia not to save lives, ect..history happened!
Second is I went to the 65 NY world fair it was great..
Have a nice day – there a big bright beautiful Tomorrow!!!!!
So tired of these people that get offended for every little thing…Grow the hell up and deal with life…Yes its an old ride.and blackface should not be tolerated..instead if getting offended realize that its part of history
This honestly really annoys me. The mob comes after another classic attraction…. This is an icon. It’s history. Disney CANT just remove or replace it. Do they even understand what that ride means???
This article writer got exactly what they wanted. A story about 1 person being offended. Lots of comments from people who think they are now the victim because of this one person. The extremities on both sides in this country will be the end of us all..
People need Thicker Skin, what a Bunch constant Complainers! Be Offended, life isn’t a bowl of cherries and your going to be offended. I don’t Waste my money on Disney any longer because it’s run by PAEDOPHILES!
WHAT THE HELL!!! Where do these people come from, MARS? Quit saying Fans want a change, it is not Fans but some cry babies who look for reasons to cause trouble.
Dear Disney,
You’re a bunch of miserable pukes. I’m happy I don’t support any of your woke garbage anymore. Your world used to be fun, and now it’s morose and full of regret. Have fun not spending my money anymore.
Sincerely,
Mom’s and dad’s who are sick of you indoctrinating their kids
I’m offended by homosexual commercials on TV but if someone who is offended by this ride just needs to stop going to Disney parks! Trust me we won’t miss you. We “woke” up a long time ago to this kind of crap.
Can we stop with the cancel culture please? People are feeling victorious over having rides re-themed…how about focusing your efforts toward changing an actual real world problem?
My mother loved Carousel of Progress, especially all the extension chords reminded her of growing up.
I always fall asleep during it.
I doubt there’s a gas leak (LOL), because the attraction was originally sponsored by General Electric.
The line also talks about how Jolsen will talk and sing. Before that movie most were silent ! It was one of the first
“Talkies” = talking movies. If you remove all of the past that offends your society is more likely to repeat it. To change the ride would change the authenticity of the decades most people alive do not know about .
The Carousel of Progress like Spaceship Earth need updating. I understand the majority don’t see a need for updating or the problem of not providing the truth rather than “his”tory. It is needed. Blackface may not be wrong and offensive to those in privilege but it is to others. Why can’t the Carousel progress,
This is getting pathetic. Jolson very much respected the black community and did Jazz Singer to prove that the music can appeal to all.
This article is dangerous. Splash Mountain proved that it only takes a very small number of people to complain which could result in something being banned. Disney’s own polls showed 5-1 against the Splash Mountain retheme but they are going ahead with it anyway.
I’m so sick of this woke Disney garbage. That is one of my favorite rides and I even though I have been on it more than I can count, I don’t even remember the specific mention of that actor, much less what the first talking movie was or the fact that it apparently featured the actor in black face. What kind of miserable person searches that hard for reasons to be offended?
I really don’t care if people are offended. We should have the right to speak our opinion and people have the right to be offended but they don’t have the right to quiet people.
People, grow up and quit whining about everything!!! The past is the past and history is what it is, it happened. If you don’t like it then don’t repeat it but you can’t pretend it didn’t happen.
As I like to say if you don’t like the ride don’t get on it. Im not trying to be mean but Disney can’t satisfy everyone and if they returned that ride could you imagine what could be next! Just because we have a couple people who don’t like it doesn’t mean we have to retheme it .
Can you take this article down? The idiocy of these people is ridiculous. They have nothing better to do than complain about anything and everything. Stop ruining the magical Disney experience for everyone else just cause you’re miserable! You already destroyed splash mountain that will now be replaced with garbage. Go away!
This is ridiculous, it is brought up in the way that it was relevant at the time – which it was, and it is historically relevant for its first use of sound – which it is.
Whatever you look for you find. If you seek to be offended you will find offence.
It’s a classic attraction and if it’s time, just view it as such for heavens sake!

Peggy
Come on. Enough is enough. Leave Carousel of Progress alone. It is Walt’s history and it stood for Disney and the history of progress in the US. Why is everyone trying to do away with the American History ? We learn from our history. Leave it alone.
Phil
They don’t find the natives in the “Jungle Cruise” ?
Eva
The one constant is change. It’s time for an update to the CoP!
Sam
Im a very liberal person and know this is not offensive.Just who are the woke left? Those who believe in Equal rights? No discrimination.?
That makes the rest the rest of you are redneck hillbillies.
"Easily Offended"
When did we become a generation of snowflakes and pansies who have to be “offended” by everything? Get over yourself people, there is nothing offensive in this ride nor was splash mountain. This is what’s wrong with this country. We get upset over a line in a script but it’s ok to let Men dress up like “women” and parade around young kids like it’s ok. Maybe when this country figures out it’s values we can all love along and live better lives.
Cynthia J Burkhamer
Well said I am sick and tired of everyone being offended by everything and it doesn’t fit me greatly that they change everything over a few snowflakes and pansies being offended
Reej
It’s not a generation – it’s the loudest people who like to hear themselves talk. People just need to let people do whatever they want as long as it isn’t hurting anyone and shut up and mind your own damn business.
Sherri
The complaint in this article should not justify a retheme. But I also think the retheming of a ride (Splash Mountain) based on non racial characters in non racial scenes is ridiculous.
Dan
Keep removing history and what are you going to do when the history that you want to removed repeats itself. These easily offended people are going to ruin this country.Ps the world will never be perfect and life is short stop complaining and just enjoy life.
Me1957
How many know that the Carousel of Progress began at the New York Worlds Fair in 1964.
Jacob Allen
I wouldn’t be offended, so it shouldn’t need to be rethemed.
Jackie
Yea, to redo Carousel of Progress is ridiculous. We have been going to Disney Parks for over 40 years. Leave it alone. If you don’t like it, stay home.
P
History is history and we learn a lot about our past. You can’t erase the past. It will always be there.
Wayne
This kind of attitude is getting way out of hand. Remember, Walt said on dedication of Disneyland, “… and the hard facts which have created America…”. Same applies to Splash Mountain. This kind of crap is making me want to dump the new Disney atmosphere and just stay home and watch “Song of The South.” Walt approved that movie, why can’t we?
B Rigney
Everyone is offended by something, name one thing that has 100% agreement by everyone. We can’t change everything because someone is offended. Stop trying to get your 5 mins of fame by creating issues that really don’t matter to the majority of people.
Mason
Honestly we might as well cancel Disney all together.
Woke Disney
Exactly
Holly
Moose
Get a life! Just don’t go on the ride. Better yet, don’t go to Disney.
SS
The carousel of progress is problematic, I welcome it’s removal and replacement with something that is more with modern times.
S
No it’s not. No attraction is problematic but you yourself are problematic. The only thing that needs to be removed is freaks like you who are undesirables and not welcome at Disney theme parks. We real Disney fans demand the Carousel of Progress stay and will keep it ourselves.
Polly
You’re problematic!!!
ShoobieDoobie
I am hopeful Disney will go broke trying to accommodate everyone that is offended.
Woke Disney
Me too.
Margaret Hudson
Nothing wrong with this ride. It is historically accurate for the time periods depicted! Leave Walt’s creations alone!
WDWfan
This one gave me a chuckle. “Outdated” references in the carousel of PROGRESS? Yeah, of course things will seem dated, since that’s kind of the idea behind the attraction. We as a society have come so far since the turn of the century, both technologically and socially. Besides, as pointed out, the line is not referencing the film because of the blackface, but because of the fact that it was the first of its kind, and has major significance in television history.
Cheshire
Unless people take the time to look up who and what they are referencing in that scene; this is a waste of energy to be upset about.
I think this is getting blown out of proportion and should we really should try to leave atleast one ride that Walt Disney designed himself alone. Change is fine and changing offensive things has its place. But this is *one line* in *one ride*. A random throw away, no one is going to notice or take a lot of time to be upset about. Find something better to yell about please.
Beverly L
We say LEAVE IT ALONE! It is what it is a great show. Why does everything have to change over one thing. It is great, great.
BeerOnTap
Just stop it. Ignore the critic. Rather than waste money on that kind of whining, Disney should invest in ride maintenance so it does not break down so often.
R C
Oh boy, the “Committee To Be Offended By Anything” strikes again. How fun?
Sunshine D.
Thanks!
Emma
I am offended that this person find Carousel of Progress offensive!
Karen
Stop! Nothing is wrong with The Carousel of Progress.
Nancy
Just stop already,if it’s not one thing it’s another. Everyone is offended by something now and I mean Everyone,if you don’t like something then don’t go see it or don’t listen to it, not Everyone wants to see it all changed
Michael
I am getting sick and tired of this crap. If you don’t like it go back to where you came from. Grow up babies and leave our heritage alone. And as for Song of the South, the gentleman won an Oscar for it. Just because these idiots didn’t like the ride simple go ride the kiddie cars and it stays the way it is! And stop shoving this black crap down our throats. If they rename and change it I will never ride that racist crap.
Jerome Hess
“should remove what’s outdated…” It’s called The Carousel of Progress, the whole idea is a demonstration of going from what was outdated to what may be the future
. If your going to wake up mad then LOOK for a reason, go no further than the mirror, that should keep you busy for at least a decade or two.
J. Jacquez
I honestly think that some people today look beyond reason to find fault with Disney. Do they have nothing else going on in their lives?
Matthew
Cat
You know what’s offensive, the ads on this website lmao
John
Really though?? Was the author really truly offended? Or just just pointing out one more reason to join the “I’m offended club”?. I can’t imagine this person getting up and shaking their head upon the obscene and offensive nature of such a thing.
People need to take a step back and calm down. There is absolutely nothing to get offended by with an INDIRECT mention of a nearly 100 year old film. 🙄
Ande
Vickie
My family which is mixed white and black love this ride, we go on it everytime we go to Disney. It is historical…people need to get a grip and stop being so sensitive about history. If it bothers you don’t ride it..Keep moving forward and make new history..
Susan
Joe
The author of this “article” is everything that’s wrong in society today. It’s a ludicrous reddit post by one moron but people like the author give it credence and put it in front of more eyes. More despicable “journalists” do the same and before you know it Disney is caving to this nonsense and changing it because one person was offended.
Charlie carter
These folks need to go to a six flags and have their fun. They are wasting their money on this quality and fun activity.
cheryl
and then there was world peace because we rid the world of Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben and Dr. Suess and The Song of the South and now this. Just don’t go if you are offended.
Woke Disney
Then came universal peace when Rue Paul was put on the Cheez-It box.
Bob
What can we find to be offended about today??? Give me a break! What a bunch of crap!
Ron DeSantis
Disney needs to be shut down due to the extreme amount of wokeness in the parks.
Biggs
Disney needs to take a stand and stop ruining attractions one after another. IF YOU DON’T LIKE OUR ATTRACTIONS DO NOT COME TO OUR PARK. We like it the way it is. Getting rid of Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is ridiculous. Might as well get rid of Mickey & Minnie !
Walt
Thank Goodness!!!! I have not been able to sleep since I first saw this back in 1996.
Doc S
How about you keep being offended and just stay the heck off of the ride? No one has forced you to go on it, so if you don’t like the script then don’t ride it again. I am 100% sick and tired of people whining about things that do not involve them.
Jeff
Absolutely ridiculous. It is part of history and has nothing to do with being racist.
Pal w
Chris
So tired of these people that get offended for every little thing…Grow the hell up and deal with life…Yes its an old ride.and blackface should not be tolerated..instead if getting offended realize that its part of history
Lyci
This honestly really annoys me. The mob comes after another classic attraction…. This is an icon. It’s history. Disney CANT just remove or replace it. Do they even understand what that ride means???
Fred Savagery
So one person is now a “mob”??? Try to man up a bit.
Fred Savagery
This article writer got exactly what they wanted. A story about 1 person being offended. Lots of comments from people who think they are now the victim because of this one person. The extremities on both sides in this country will be the end of us all..
Chris
People need Thicker Skin, what a Bunch constant Complainers! Be Offended, life isn’t a bowl of cherries and your going to be offended. I don’t Waste my money on Disney any longer because it’s run by PAEDOPHILES!
ANN HAMMANN
The Carousel of Progress should definitely not be changed!! I’m so tired of people trying to change history!!
ROGER D STEVENS
WHAT THE HELL!!! Where do these people come from, MARS? Quit saying Fans want a change, it is not Fans but some cry babies who look for reasons to cause trouble.
Mitchell
I swear if they touch carousel of progress…
James
Dear Disney,
You’re a bunch of miserable pukes. I’m happy I don’t support any of your woke garbage anymore. Your world used to be fun, and now it’s morose and full of regret. Have fun not spending my money anymore.
Sincerely,
Mom’s and dad’s who are sick of you indoctrinating their kids
John Wayne
I’m offended by homosexual commercials on TV but if someone who is offended by this ride just needs to stop going to Disney parks! Trust me we won’t miss you. We “woke” up a long time ago to this kind of crap.
TH
Can we stop with the cancel culture please? People are feeling victorious over having rides re-themed…how about focusing your efforts toward changing an actual real world problem?
Abby
Damn Karen
Ann
My mother loved Carousel of Progress, especially all the extension chords reminded her of growing up.
I always fall asleep during it.
I doubt there’s a gas leak (LOL), because the attraction was originally sponsored by General Electric.
Momma
The line also talks about how Jolsen will talk and sing. Before that movie most were silent ! It was one of the first
“Talkies” = talking movies. If you remove all of the past that offends your society is more likely to repeat it. To change the ride would change the authenticity of the decades most people alive do not know about .
Karen
The Carousel of Progress like Spaceship Earth need updating. I understand the majority don’t see a need for updating or the problem of not providing the truth rather than “his”tory. It is needed. Blackface may not be wrong and offensive to those in privilege but it is to others. Why can’t the Carousel progress,
Wcjeep
It’s ten minutes of AC when it’s hot outside.
Rick
This is getting pathetic. Jolson very much respected the black community and did Jazz Singer to prove that the music can appeal to all.
This article is dangerous. Splash Mountain proved that it only takes a very small number of people to complain which could result in something being banned. Disney’s own polls showed 5-1 against the Splash Mountain retheme but they are going ahead with it anyway.
Amanda
I’m so sick of this woke Disney garbage. That is one of my favorite rides and I even though I have been on it more than I can count, I don’t even remember the specific mention of that actor, much less what the first talking movie was or the fact that it apparently featured the actor in black face. What kind of miserable person searches that hard for reasons to be offended?
Diego Gonzaga
Oh no. Karen got offended. Karen is uncomfortable
Jeff
I really don’t care if people are offended. We should have the right to speak our opinion and people have the right to be offended but they don’t have the right to quiet people.
Debra
People, grow up and quit whining about everything!!! The past is the past and history is what it is, it happened. If you don’t like it then don’t repeat it but you can’t pretend it didn’t happen.
Tyler
As I like to say if you don’t like the ride don’t get on it. Im not trying to be mean but Disney can’t satisfy everyone and if they returned that ride could you imagine what could be next! Just because we have a couple people who don’t like it doesn’t mean we have to retheme it .
Ted
I’m sick and tired of these libtard fools being hurt by everything.
Donna
Can you take this article down? The idiocy of these people is ridiculous. They have nothing better to do than complain about anything and everything. Stop ruining the magical Disney experience for everyone else just cause you’re miserable! You already destroyed splash mountain that will now be replaced with garbage. Go away!
Reej
This is ridiculous, it is brought up in the way that it was relevant at the time – which it was, and it is historically relevant for its first use of sound – which it is.
Steph
This is absolutely ridiculous! That ONE person who got offended needs to stay home! If you don’t like it don’t ride it he’ll don’t even go!
Mike Lloyd
Whatever you look for you find. If you seek to be offended you will find offence.
It’s a classic attraction and if it’s time, just view it as such for heavens sake!
