Stupid idea. We took our daughter who is non verbal and has autism and she loved the tiki Room, it was one of her favourite Disney places apart from animal kingdom safari
I love the Tiki room. For someone who’d never experienced it before it was a true “WTF” moment and I found it hilarious. It was even at the time when Iago was in the show. Leave it alone. It’s a great piece of family entertainment.
This article was in poor taste. The tiki room was the very first thing I visited in Disneyland as a kid and it was magical. Coming back to it over 15 years later and the magic is still there. Shorten the line for those of us who are genuinely enjoy the show and go find an attraction that makes you smile.
I love your humor! I like to visit the Tiki Room to relax and cool off when it’s really hot and that it is right beside my favorite Dole Whip stand! But, I can see some guests would enjoy the target shooting practice.
I would approve only if they did alternate shows of Lazer tag ,then the orginal show. After all, at EPCOT in the France show they have the Sing along with Belle. And then after 7pm(on the day we were there) finally they had the orginal show with classical music. Or 6 yo grandson was very upset with this. He loves the orginal and was not a fan of the sing along, having grown up with the orginal. We,the adults, can see how the sing along appeals to a lot of guests. We don’t have to like it. Just wish it was practical to alternate the shows.
I say keep it as is. If anything maybe they can upgrade the birds to look more authentic and upgrade the visual effects to todays standard. Let the audio track stay the same. It’s pure Disney
I love the tiki birds. We still need some things that are for children. My kids & grandkids look forward to this show. Maybe we should change all the alcohol they sell in the parks to resorts only.
I remember Zazu, too. That was the first (and only) time I’ve seen the show in Florida. Since then I’ve seen the original a million times at Disneyland.
This is repulsive. You really think Disney land is going to approve this idea ever? A shooting rance where you shoot parrots??? Fake or not, that’s ridiculous. And just because you cant nap there doesn’t mean everyone else can’t. My fondest memories of Disney land as a child was going with my mom and half way through our day we’d get a dole whip and then watch the show while my mom sat behind us and took a nap.
I Love the Tiki Room, I love the Music, the Birds, The Flowers singing, I Love Everything about it… and seriously… shooting birds??? Really!!
Disney needs to just leave it alone!
I think the animatronics could use some updating – think of the parrots with Avatar level motion and appearances.
And yeah, maybe a little less clicking.
I love the originals. Tiki room, pirates, haunted mansion. Leave them alone. They already destroyed the submarines and Mr Toad. Leave the memories alone. Want new stuff, expand instead.
Lighten up people! It was written all for fun tho I know lots of people like the idea. I got a really good chuckle out of it. And it’s not like we don’t need more things to make us smile!
I am glad you were joking because quite frankly I appreciate the original attractions. Let them repair things and build new parks. They need to come up with some original ideas of their own and stop requiring cast members to work 50+ hours a week.
It should be completely restored to full operational when it was brand new for Walt Disney I love that place I love the history of that room and should be kept away Walt wanted it not updated not changed nothing it should be kept historically accurate
Love the humor. If they had to do anything to the Tiki Room; then an upgrade to the audio-animatronics to get rid of the constant clicking sound each one makes. The newer tech could pull this off.
So your solution to not liking something is to shoot it? You think shooting exotic birds is funny? I think your humor is quite lacking. How about if you don’t like an attraction don’t got to it or try to ruin it for everyone else?
You call this progress, this is not progress. You don’t gut popular attractions that are still functioning. Disney has unfortunately got into their super uber ultra greedy phase. Let’s not make anything new let’s gut the popular attractions and replace them with something cheap and cheesy and kill the magic!
By the way, Walt could never strike oil with all that spinning he’s long since eroded.
Dont you dare touch the tiki room . That Walt Disney 1st amiation attraction.
I will never never go back again to walt disney world and never forgive the park turned it into a shooting gallery to make money how dare you do that. I been going to disneyland fir 50 years
Umm, they added 2 birds. Iago and Zazu. And that “update” was horrific. And that tiki god that sprang out of the middle scared my son to death!! This attraction needs to be left alone. It is nostalgic and perfect like it is.
I went to Disneyland 2 years ago. I LOVE the Tiki Room. I even made my own custom Minnie ears for it. I went to the Tiki Room as the last attraction of the night. There was hardly anyone in there but there was a young couple making out in the corner bench. Yeesh!!! They made it hard to focus on the attraction!
This is an abhorrent idea, even as a joke. Even if I didn’t love the Tiki Room (which I do – I love it very much), proposing that people get to watch beloved characters they have a history with get shot at is sick. And FYI- my whole family and I adore the original Tiki Room. Even the teenagers ask to go see it on every visit and love to sing along. Not every attraction is for every guest. You don’t like it? Skip it. But don’t propose shooting beloved characters that people are attached to.
I’m not a huge fan of the Tiki Room in fact I cringe when people visit and want to go there. It is an iconic thing at Disney World though. I just wish they would update and maybe have some songs we could sing along too. Make it more interesting and have people join in. That’s my two cents!
I grew up going to WDW. Every couple of years my parents would take me and the TikiRoom and Pirates were always the first two on our list to see. So, ya, it brings back a lot of emotions back and memories for me as it does all of you. Now here I am brining my own kids to the same attractions. And, well, I love them but they really do need a good updating.
The jokes are lost and the birds are rather noisy. I love Galaxys Edge and all, don’t get me wrong. But there’s something to be said for the magical history of WDW too. Attention should be paid.
Since we follow Disney and my wife worked in the Disney Studios in CA staffing talent a few years, we knew about the fire and the “quiet” replacement of voices by Mr. Jelinek, a very talented artist, and the offer of the updated show. My wife heard the new proposed soundtrack and was ecstatic over it. But they went with copying the old version. I feel it saved a lot of the “magic” for people like myself.
However we would have loved to see his updated version. Anything but Lago! If they use him again then yes it should be one a shooting range!

I love and have loved the Tiki birds since I was a baby. It was where we would go to cool off, Nap, (and yes you can nap quite peacefully if you aren’t a Karen!!) get the older folks out of the sun oe the kids out of the sun. It is visually stimulating and let’s not forget the MAIN thing is that it is for children or those who suspend their imagination for a day or two.
I love, love, love the Tiki Room just as it is: so campy and 1960s. But your article was amusing, and I probably will picture myself shooting singing birds with a Buzz Lightyear style phaser gun next time I’m there. 😉
It’s funny how all these people took your idea so seriously! Personally, I think it’s hilarious. I too LOVE the tiki room, and go very often. I even find myself singing the song all the time (even imagining the clacks). The problem with this idea – even as a dream makeover- is that it would mean triple the wait times, with way more kids screaming about who won, and well, there goes the peaceful respite of my Disney day. Kinda like when Mexico and Norway became the gateway to Tiny Princessville rather than a place to kick back and enjoy a lakeside margarita and visit a troll. Anyway, the thought of shooting a laser at Iago is awesome, but at the cost of losing the peaceful singing and clacking to mini gamers? Nah….but maybe the egrets around the turkey leg cart??? (Que the backlash)

It is a quiet and gentle place to sit and relax get out of the heat and off your feet. I really hope they leave it alone.

I thought they added Zazu to it also. But if not, they could have Zazu and Iago arguing back and forth.

100,000,000% agree with this. That room is a nightmare where I can’t even catch a nap. Adding laser guns to it would actually make it tolerable.
