Disney is falling behind. They are getting beat. It takes them 5+ years to build the Tron coaster. But Universal is building an entire new theme park by 2025. What’s Disney doing in response? Just more endless re-theming of attractions and sections of parks that already exist. They obviously aren’t as well financially as this article wants to claim. The D23 was a big nothing-burger.
Exactly. I was at Hershey Park in PA recently. Just $45 for a ticket with advanced purchase. That included both the waterpark and the roller coasters. The theming wasn’t as great. There weren’t any dark rides like Pirates of the Caribbean but the roller coasters were great and the whole experience was just as good.
I say that we should just stop carrying on about Disney and it’s politics. Just go to some of the formerly second tier parks. In many cases, they’re just as good. In many ways, they’re plain better.
For the snowflakes who believe that a scummy evil man won 2020 and unironically post in here that Disney promotes “grooming.” Sure, that crazy crazy crowd, Disney is not a popular.
Oh, can I also point out that this supposed real person posts on here with what I assume is a parody of my name? Way to prove how “real” the average leftist online is.
To the above poster the term snowflake refers to leftists. There is a story behind it in regard to ‘safe places’ etc. Where Disney is failing is in that Bob Chapek is short sighted. He is doing everything to make as much money as possible short term. Cutting value but raising prices. This will work for record earnings now but will pull the rug out of earnings in the future as fans are turning against the company. The effects of this will be seen in the next few years. Marvel and Star Wars movie attendance will drop dramatically. Disney+ subscriptions will drop with the price increases and the inclusion of non family oriented programming. Disney park attendance will drop as the price vs value has bottomed and the anniversary celebration ends.
The folks who are mad at Disney are being told to be mad. When and if conservatives/DeSantis decide to move onto another target, Disney will be fine with them again. It’s the irony from a group who claims to be against cancel culture but cancels people themselves constantly. Disney hasn’t really changed over the past 10 yrs but people sure do love to be angry. Without personal grievance what would most of the folks on the internet do all day? Be productive? Crazy talk
The Walt Disney Company’s leadership is not wise. They side with the minority, lunatic, left crowd. Teaching five year olds sex education, homosexual, and transgender idiology is not appropriate. If they can’t see that, they deserve to lose in popularity. Florida is not California. It’s like they are unaware of their surroundings. Key players in the board said they would vote Chapek out; they lied. Chapek is price gouging the middle class out of Disney vacations. My doctor said they were too expensive and he likes going to Europe for vacation. They need to stop grooming or pushing adult issues on children. It’s against the Disney model–forever childhood.
There is a long standing law in Florida stating that any kind of sex education cannot be taught in Florida schools before 5th grade. Desantis made it appear that sex ed was being taught in the lower grades and he, the champion of children (after sending busloads of children to Martha’s Vineyard), was going to save them from this evil deed. He created a solution looking for a problem.
Sorry Janet, 48 people, including 4 children, were flown to Martha’s Vineyard (not busloads of children) and were subsequently bussed to a military base in Cape Cod because the folks on Martha’s Vineyard couldn’t have “those kind of people” in their community. The Massachusetts governor has dispatched 125 National Guard troops to assist with the 48 illegal immigrants. But yet housing illegals in a military installation in Texas was vilified as cruel and unusual punishment. Is it any wonder things are so screwed up when folks don’t care about the facts? And the law reads “Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students”. Parents should determine when and in what way to introduce LGBTQ topics to their children. Just like when its appropriate to discuss how humans procreate. You know, the birds and the bees talk.
The Supreme Court with its Citizens United decision made it legal for corporations to support any cause they see fit because they were entitled to freedom of speech. This freedom, of course, is from government over reach. Private companies can and do fire, demote, etc. those who do not agree. We can let our beliefs known by withholding or spending our monies to Disney. What troubles me is that an over sensitive presidential wanna be has imposed a government sanction on a business for exercising it’s Constitutional right. It’s just too coincidental that the Reedy Park withdrawal comes on the heels of a PO’d governor.
Citizens United was always in the back of my head when this issue came up. And it is ironic that at first if Disney did support the bill, governor said nothing. But the moment they changed their mind, now he’s all over Disney? They can’t win to lose. This could also be another broken rung of the ladder for free speech. Time will tell.
How is it feasible that Chapek speaks for ALL employees? He cannot possibly know what each employee beliefs. Instead he follows one faction.
To those employees & Pixar execs, the entertainment they create is for the general public. A decision to omit controversial topics in children & family fare is a business decision. Employees are not the intended audience, getting upset on decisions to which they have no voice is irrelevant. They are paid to create not distribute.
To those on the right, let’s not exaggerate Disney’s misteps. Chapek messed up. We all know it. But let’s be real, money and profits will drive their decisions not politics. For this reason alone, Disney will never go too far left, those leftists peoples have flawed personalities (presumably from poor upbringing) which ultimately limits their financial resources and life success. Ergo their voices are the loudest, but money talks louder.
To those on the left, you need to get a grip on reality. Your voice will forever be a minority for every good reason. Your only hope is for a growing number apathetic leaders in business and politics. Apathy is a disease you’ve lived off of long enough but the much larger majority is seeing through all the crap. Also, the louder you complain then more obvious it is how flawed your thinking is so your own voice is what’s preventing the “progress” you so desire to see. Your in a lose-lose situation. Failed thinking never wins. Ergo, your voice will forever be the minority no matter how loud you cry. It’s very similar to a baby crying in a plane. Everyone hears them but they’re still just the baby.
VERY well said! Disney has blown it with those of us who have enjoyed success because we not only BELIEVE in our conservative values-but also apply them as well!
Hence our success comes from irrefutable processes that ensure we will prosper while the left sits and waits for “big gov’t” to rescue them!
The amazing thing to me is that CheapSkate & the rest of the suits in the Corp offices of Disney are always presented with the results of the surveys where majority of people are saying they’re unhappy with the overall exp at the parks & etc, & instead of listening to what their customers are saying & make the improvements needed, No they just keep raising prices & lowering food portion sizes thinking that the customers will accept it.
For me, liking or not liking Disney has nothing to do with politics, and everything to do with quality. I see so many long time fans saying they’re done, and we’re adding ourselves to that list as well. Just got back from a WDW vacation, and was very disappointed. I honestly took other comments with a grain of salt, thinking people were just finding something to complain about, or being overly critical. No, they were right. The vacation was outrageous expensive, and we even stayed at a lower priced resort (Pop Century). That’s always where we stay. That resort has jumped $100 a NIGHT in just the last ten years! I justified it in my mind, saying how great Disney is, that it’s worth it. Now I’m back tracking on that. We went when the parks are typically lower crowds. Off season, as you will….not anymore! When I read there’s no off season at Disney, I didn’t believe it. We went this same time last year and it was fine. I’m realizing Covid was the only reason it was low crowds last year. 45 minute waits for Its a Small World? It’s not even that high in summer when it IS peak season. MNSSHP was shoulder to shoulder, felt like we were at a concert or something. If we have to be in a pandemic in order to have manageable, reasonable crowds, that’s a problem. There are so many other vacations we can do without all the people and heat for less than a Disney vacation. The food was terrible. I mean, I guess restaurants were fine, but who can afford those their entire trip? Boma was just three of us and $180 after tax and tip. So we only ate at two restaurants. Everything else was worse than fast food. Nearly $13 for cold burger and fries. That weird food in Pandora? Those veggie chips were stale and coated in salt. Pasta at the resort was so watery, it was literally making the paper bowl it was in soggy. Breaks my heart, but sorry Disney, we’re done visiting the house of mouse. I don’t care where you stand politically. The quality of your parks isn’t there anymore…..
I hope you do not consider yourself a journalist Luke – but you are a great opinion piece writer. The terms “Incendiary” and “Don’t say gay bill” (which it isNOT) don’t tip your hand at all. Stay on the path you are – and you will get a high paying job at one of the thousands of leftie papers littered across the country.
Disney problems are not political. They are caused by Chapek and his board trying to squeeze blood out of a stone. The Disney Parks are becoming family vacation spots for wealthy families only.
I have been a Disney person, for over 60 years, starting with the early Sunday Night Walt Disney TV shows.
I am also greatly involved in supporting Disney through the years, buying stock, visiting the Parks, buying Disney Merchandise.
The new realm “Disney Management” and direction is not what Disney had stood for in the past.
The rides, changing due to racial issues, I never even considered Brea Rabbit and Brea Fox singing Zippy Doo Da to be offensive.
All people can have issues and be defensive of any race, or cultural.
Should we just stop living, because folks have different opinions?
I support people, straight, gay, indifferent. It is their choice.
But Disney was made for the Family. Most of the people in the park are families, being Mom, Dad, children.
We should not judge other choices, but movies and Cartoons should be made for the viewers, the majority of people who support the Disney Magic.
The gay population, was 3% a few years back, and with its “normal status” now has raised to 7%.
Why doesn’t Disney get back to basics, follow the system it was built on. If they want “gay” movies and characters, make movies for that group. (no problem)
If they want the typical heterosexual traditional movie, that Disney had been doing, do that.
You cannot please all groups and cultural folks, but Disney in Japan, China, have molded their parks to the culture of the Country.
Disney, get a clue and market to the people who make up the majority of your profits and followers. Family, kids and people in the United States.
Stay out of political issues, concentrate on employee moral in the parks. The money you send for political or cultural issues, give that back to the employees or people who are in need.
Think what made you the company and build on that.
History is relevant, and no book burning, removing items that “may offend” some groups. (prejudice is built on any social or physical appearance of another people type, that is not our own)
We are all people, respect one another, but removing history does not change facts of life.
Disney, get back to basics, and change for the better, remember the roots the company was built on.
Look it is obvious that you are liberal – but your reporting should not be. Just state the facts and keep your opinion out of it. For instance “The Walt Disney Company took a stance against the bill after waiting a little too long, which caused friction between the company”. You may believe they waited too long. I think they never should have gotten involved.
I think it is hilarious that the leftist scum that troll these pages love to misuse insults. They call anyone concerned about their children’s education/indoctrination a “snowflake” knowing full well that name is a derogatory term specifically about them. Like calling a male “a b#tch” or a white person the “n” word. They sound as stupid as they look. 🤣 They talk about inclusivity and tolerance which are code words for indoctrination. It is in FACT, GROOMING. We all know it is but these total wastes of DNA actually believe they have the right and privilege to dictate their satanic, disgusting religion and IT IS A RELIGION to them. 🤣🤣 They are so far beyond ridiculous its crystal clear that no human being of any age or background should/could ever take these losers seriously. Just let them run their filthy mouths and let them tell their lies but do not ever acknowledge them. Nothing these people think, say, feel or believe has any impact on anyone. Never will. They are like a gun firing blanks. Loud but far from deadly. I would not be surprised if there are not 50 of them in a room in Beijing or Moscow spreading nonsense they hope will destroy American families.
Comments for Disney Ratings Fall Significantly as Company Faces Political Backlash
