First world whining from people working in comfortable air-conditioned offices and can leave any time.

WAAAAAAHHHH Booo Hooo they have schedule’s and demands on them, it’s called a job. Others who get paid far less deal with the same thing. They sit at a desk and computer all day doing this, it’s not like they are out there digging ditches or breaking their back. They should be happy that they have a consistent and steady paying gig. Crybabies

.. first two comments by folk who’ve clearly never felt the ergonomic strains and stress of gross overtime at a desk job, let alone bother to imagine the immense technical detail and expertise that go into mere seconds of these digiheavy films and streaming projects — nor even understand .how. many of those N-hours’work’s “seconds” (.each. usually revised and refined .multiple. times) make up each movie/streaming product and how soulsucking any deskjob can get with under bad working conditions never mind the backbreaking pace detailed in the article. “can leave anytime” lel these are technical specialists who’ve paid for the relevant education and studied and built resumes in their field having gotten into a literally famous-worldwide company that’s going around consuming others so it’s pretty much top of the line. realistically where’d you go from there, especially if you’ve not yet built up substantial resume credits owing to youth &/or other factors? almost as ridic as any gruelling deskjob person saying to a fruitpicker “what’s there to complain about you have plenty of fresh air and sunshine and scarcely have to use your brain at all, rather than 12 hours in a cramped cubicle with processed air and having your head neck back wrists stuck in a position to ficus your gaze on processing tiny numberstreams on a 13-inch screen while your legs accumulate fluid and the inactivity primes the body for vascular dementia among every other health risk that jumps with deskjobs requiring extensive overtime — both are daft, ignorantly (and maybe even deliberately) reductionist, not entirely unlike the two comments above mine..

Just a thought here but if I was gonna follow my dream and get into my dream job, in my dream field, with the company of my dreams I’d make sure that it wasn’t gonna be a nightmare first.

People whop don’t work in fields like VFFX for film/TV or similar like Video Game Dev have no clue as to what crunch is especially that said person has a desk job themselves. They have their own standard 8-5 or 9-5 job with the occasional OT that they may get paid for and so they can’t comprehend what its like having months at a time 80 hour work weeks where you’re not even paid for that OT simply b/c its expected as part of your job. The attitude of workers in those fields has to change and while I’m not a union supporter Unions are able to take root only because companies abuse the employees enough that they’re wiling to Unionize. It’s clear that Disney/Marvel is interested in doing as little as possible to keep the employees from unionizing so I think the VFX staff should unionize; it’s not as if most of teh rest of Hollywood isn’t in a union.

When it comes to unions it’s the employers who have only themselves to blame because employees in a good working environment who are being paid and treated fairly are not going to unionize.
