  1. They are not perceived issues! Disney world has a lot of issues right now and Disney has lost its Magic. We have been going to Disney for over 35 years and are also switching to Universal. The magic is no longer there!

    1. Taylor

I completely agree! As a FL resident, o gave up my AP. It breaks my heart to see how little they care anymore.

  2. We were out of state AP holders. I have not been to WDW since May 2019. Prior to that we went as a family and my 12 year old has probably been about 35 times. 😳 Waaaay too many for a 10 year span. When we go back to Orlando we will be doing Universal. I look forward to the no-planning that I have to do!! I was frustrated by the Fast Pass that I had to chose 60 (I think) days before we left. I now have NO desire to chose which park I’m going to go to daily and make reservations. I understand Covid changed a lot of things overall, but I definitely don’t think for Disney it was for the better. They are raking in the cash though. And as long as people go, spend $$$, they don’t care & it will continue to be the same. I was a little sad that Chapek made his dig towards the annual passholders. It is like we’re almost a nuisance. We may have become a Dollywood family as we have passes there this year. It’s a wonderful place & kinda reminds me of old WDW when I went in the late 90s early 2000s. I love Disney, I just don’t have any desire to spend my money there now. 😞

I agree with you! Disney has been a favorite place for 40 years. No more. Planning a big trip to Florida, but it won’t be to anything Disney. Disney is now so woke, so sad they are changing Splash Mountain (and stupid)

    1. Jo

We are going to disney this year because it was already planned .but after this i will be planning to go to universal and in 2025 when epic opens .that will draw so many people .disney has def lost its magic and is all about money .

      1. JoeGuy

Just booked our next trip. We are going to universal….before the pandemic and the stupid changes Disney has made I never would have said that. I know you Disney nuts will be happy in not going so no need to mention it.. lol

  4. Sue

Plus universal treats there cast members better and you do t need to make no damn reservations. That a big issue as far a being a local pass holder just can go when you at the drop of a hat. But we haven’t gone in 5 months and we a pass holder and I don’t miss it many of my neighbors work there and they even said how bad it has gotten.

  5. chris

At least once a year WDW visitor here for the past 15+ years, but sorry to say its no more. Its the lack of perks and ease that I feel disney is missing that made me choose WDW over Universal. With kids it was go great to have magical express, and the old fast passes. It made the vacation so much more enjoyable and we knew we could get on certain rides and not worry. The last trip in Nov 2021 was just too much planning involved and staring at our smart phone. Universal will be our next trip, the Express pass requires no planning, just show up and skip the line. Universal has been having amazing deals too.

  6. Barbara

My family has been going to Disney every year at least once since 1994. My annual pass is up this year and I have no desire to renew. The new park reservation system is just one more reason not to go to Disney. I have no desire to spend my money for vacation only to have to plan every waking moment. Park hoppers are more expensive but are now limited to 2:00pm. Ridiculous! Universal her I come. I own DVC so I will continue to stay on property but I no longer will be using the parks. This use to be my happy place, no more:(

    1. Peggy

I agree except I will be dropping my DVC. No annual passes for DVC members less perks. Keep it. We started vacationing other places bought a good used motor home. Our girls grew up on Disney (downs people) they can go once maybe every other year. Otherwise universal once in a while. Not much they can ride there. I am done paying maintenance fees for absolutely nothing.

      1. Chris Wood

I went there 2021. Stayed at the Lowe’s Royal Pacific. Beautiful hotel. Fast pass and walking path with takes a few minutes, but worth it. Its well lit for the late night walks from the park. I think universal is geared for the teenagers to adults.

        1. Bryan

While o do agree it is geared more to older kids, younger kids can still go and have lots of fun. I really enjoyed the parks when I was about 4 and still do to this day.

        2. Debbie

Our family ( extended and all) have been going to Disney for 35 years. Always was our favorite place. It’s sad that everything has changed. Still way too crowded with no covid restrictions and the constant planning to try to eat or go on rides has taken the pleasure out of visiting Disney 😣

  7. Holly Hagelin

    Heave been to UO twice;
First time in 2013 ( won a trip & stayed at Portafino ), second time in 2015 & stars in the Pacifica. Absolutely astonished at the different vibe at UO; the staff actually cared about you and your experience and were super friendly & helpful! Will definitely go there again before going back to WDW, as the perks were enjoyed most ( Magic Express & food plans ) are gone. . . Greed, pure & simple.

    1. Zee

We have been going to Disney for over 40 years and I’m sorry to say we are done with them. Paid top dollar and received less. They are are charging for everything. Greed. The reservation system is horrendous then you have to reserve your rides. We spent the entire trip on the cell phone making reservations. What a nightmare!!! We could not get into one restaurant if we didn’t pre-order. Last time we ever visit Disney.

  8. Rickey Mouse

Congratulations Bob! You’ve now turned the best place in the world into Chapek World. But that probably sounds “neat” to you. Walt is turning over in his crypt so fast he’s gonna drill his way out of it. You know, I don’t get it. If ONE person yells out, “We need a pride day!” Then Bob turns around and gives them a pride day. Then why when someone yells out, “Bob Chapek needs to resign!”, why doesn’t he? His political views, which are not everyone else’s, have ruined the company. RESIGN BOB! RESIGN!

    1. lola

There has been a pride day at WDW way before Chapek was CEO

    2. CJA

Was wondering who was gonna gripe ‘woke is the problem’ first.

      1. Steve

Woke is the problem. For more (yes more) than half the country, it ruins the visit.

  9. Daryl

Anyone who chooses Universal over Disney is fooling themselves into thinking they had a good time. They should be purged for their delusion.

    1. Sean

Wake up Daryl and see that Disney is no longer the Golden Child that it once was. Don’t take the blue pill.

    2. Steve

You must be British. I hear they like waiting in lines and do it for entertainment.

      1. Jeff

We do, two weeks per year in American parks.

    3. Steve

More likely is he is a shareholder 50% underwater with his life savings.

  10. billnyenotascienceguy

Yes Daryl tell them. We don’t really want “disney folks” at our beloved Universal Parks. Enjoy the “magic” of your bank account disappearing.

  11. Plan and simple…Disney isn’t for families anymore. It’s still doable and I’m sure fun if you’re there as a couple or adult singles who go together, but for a typical family of 4 with 2 children it’s financially ridiculous. It’s very hard for children to wait in 80 minute plus lines often in the heat and then the only alternative is to pay an extra $60-80 (for a family of 4) to ride popular rides is what was the finale straw for us. Not to mention the mental exhaustion of not being present and in the moment with my children but instead stressing over trying to book rides and food reservations on my phone all day on a App that is also horribly flawed

    1. Steve

It isn’t fun for single adults.

  12. Peggy

I agree with most comments. As a DVC member who lives out of Florida. I am done. No annual pass not worth having DVC . Special needs family was why we purchased. So if one of our girls felt under the weather we just skip the park. No big deal with annual pass. With paid tickets it’s a big deal to loose a days paid admission. Will be selling our shares after last trip in December. Motorhome just better. Will visit universal. At least they give discounts for handicap and have more compassion in last trip there then Disney has.

  13. EK

So, I just came back from a dual UO/ Disney trip and I thought that I would love UO—We bought annual passes—It was awful. The cast members were rude, the crowds were crazy and angry and well…did I mention the cast members were just nasty?! The outrageously expensive express pass crowds gum up the lines too! We went to Disney after and I didn’t mind using Genie and paying, and the cast members were all lovely. The place was very clean and we just had a better time in general. Disney needs better rides—they do. But, we stayed in UO Sapphire resort and it was just pretty but inconvenient, staff was rude, and they were tip crazy there.
UO was surprisingly far more expensive (and we stayed at a Deluxe Disney Resort for most of the trip.)
Disney needs to bring back their annual passes and UO needs an attitude change. For now, we will stay in Disney and visit UO for a day or two.

    1. billnyenotascienceguy

LMAO..EK must be a Disney employee. Tip crazy? UO more expensive? Rude team members? Funny stuff.

      1. Steve

Universal food is more expensive. However, unlike Disney, you can sit down to eat. I don’t stay at Hotels since I live here, but I doubt Universal is more expensive than the outrageous prices of Disney “deluxe” “resorts.”

  14. Linda

We won’t be going back to WDW either, Its gotten to expensive. The genie+ and the lighting lanes are awful. The Disney corporation are charging you more and giving you less. They took away the magic buses and the fast passes. Sadly, there is no more magic left. Goodbye Disney, we will go somewhere else next year, maybe to Universal.

    1. Steve

Universal is smaller, but it is better. If you like Harry Potter at all, that is enough reason.

  15. Russ

We have visited Orlando and stayed at WDW for the last 20 years, travelling from the UK. We are are staying at Universal this Sep and not venturing into Disney. With the Disney decline in recent years, I am not prepared to pay more for less of an experience. I miss the time when you could walk into any park on any day and not have to book or pay for rides. Coming from the UK for 14 nights and having to plan every part of our vacation is tiring. I will return to WDW when the magic returns. At least it will give us a chance to see what else Florida has to offer.

  16. Pat

So disappointed with WDW! All these comments and complaints are so TRUE. Disney has outpriced themselves. The new CEO is taking away all the magic. The food service and food quality has greatly declined and the prices have gone up, up, up. Same is true for their merchandise.
I am looking forward to experiencing Universal on my next Florida vacation. I am finished with Disney.

  17. Michaela

As UK travellers, we have always loved Disney, however for the last 2 occasions we’ve stayed at Universal’s Cabana Bay Resort and will not stay on Disney property again. It is amazing. Also, following our recent visit in early August this year; Disney park reservation system and lightning lanes is a bind. Gone are the days where if you had bad weather at a Disney park one day and had to cut your trip short, you could revisit the following day, it’s just not worth the stress of trying to get a reservation. Also, waiting to hop after 2pm doesn’t make sense either. Whilst we will always love Disney, the overall experience with Universal is in our opinion far superior.

  18. Mickeymouse3

We are DVC and have a trip planned for next spring. Our last trip was spring of 2021 and it sucked having to wear the masks in 90+ heat. Hoping the next trip will be better, but too many posts from everywhere says it might not be. We will make the trip what we want it to be. However, some re-evaluations may ne necessary if future trips are wanted. We may use our DVC for room only and visit competitor parks for the entertainment side.

  19. Turtlebug

I’ve been a local long term AP holder for both DW and UO. I now spend my money and time at UO with maybe once or twice a year trips to Epcot- (the only reason I kept my pass). UO means I can make a quick decision and be in the park within just a few minutes. DW? Not a chance for impromptu visits. And more expensive. So I’m now solidly UO.

  20. JoeGuy

Canadian here and we would go to Disney about once a year I sold my DVC this year and doubt our family will be going back for quite some time. Thanks Bob for giving us the push to spend our vacation dollars elsewhere.

  21. Rya

    Fire Bob Paycheck!

  22. Steve

Shorter lines, more attention to detail in their new attractions, less nickel and diming, places to sit when you eat, and it doesn’t preach to you like a Democrat political rally.

Universal is a better experience for normal people.

  23. Steve

Republicans won’t do anything to fix it. They are better, but only because they are in the Special Olympics.

  24. Jamie

We did a week and a half at Disney and 5 nights at Universal last November.

It was our first time staying at Universal, as usually we can go for a day or two and be done with the parks for a few years.
This trip we found our time at Universal to be much more relaxing and wished we had spent more time there. It was nice to not have to be tied to our phones all day and to have the ability to walk to the parks from our hotel. Parks seemed much more manageable crowd wise, staff were in much better spirits, and the overall vibe was much more positive.

  25. CJ

It’s not just Walt Disney World, plenty of Park Guests out West are quitting Disneyland / DCA for similar reasons.

This means Universal Studios, Cedar Fair, Six Flags, Busch Gardens are going to get a piece of that Disney money making Pie (things did change due to Covid, but even before that? one thing began to ruin Disney – Bob Chapek – but this won’t matter to Disney Sheep!)

This Household is happy with Knott’s Berry Farm, it appears more are as well …. prices went up a lil’ – but you still pay 1/3 of what you will at a Walt Disney Theme Park (someday I hope Theme Parks will offer discount admission for bringing in charitable donations – a food drive a clothing drive a toy drive – I really appreciate it those days!)

    1. Norm

I agree CJ. Disney fans are fed up with Chapek. Unfortunately, he received a new contract so we’re stuck with him. We’ve been DVC members since 1994 and have gone to DW every year except during the covid shutdown. We went this past January and didn’t enjoy ourselves. We had the same feeling the trip before this last one. We couldn’t wait to get back home. We have decided to use our membership to go elsewhere.

      1. Disappointed 101

I’m done too. Ditto…ditto…dittoDon’t even feel like rewriting everyones disappointments. Was there two weeks ago. Its bad. Don’t waste your money. Go to Universal

  26. Greg graf

My wife and I were going to take 2 of our grandchildren too grandchildren to Disney’s Fort wilderness this last summer there was gonna cost over $5000 for the camping and the 3 days tickets we’re gonna have at Disney. Then I checked into universal Orlando.. We have 4 nights day a in 5 days which meant we buy 3 tickets to get 2 tickets 2 days free for for half the cost. Then I checked into universal Orlando.. We have 4 nights day a in 5 days which meant we buy 3 tickets to get 2 tickets 2 days free for for half the cost. That made it a no brainer. We canceled the Disney vacation reservations probations and reserve our hotel room at dockside inns and that’s where we spend a week. I think I too grandkids enjoyed that more than me would have it Disney. I myself am one of Disney’s biggest fans fans but in the long run I think we did a lot better by going to universal this time around.

  27. Harley

As a FL resident, I’ve been alternating Annual Pass for both WD and UO for several years. This year I bought AP for Disney to “celebrate” their 50th anniversary, and I totally regret it. Prices, Experience, and Quality wise, in UO is way better and I’m speaking on behalf of my kids of different ages as well. As UO pass holder I have stayed on every single resort, and I have enjoyed the Unlimited Express Lane offered by some of these resorts at no cost. Shame on you Disney!

  28. John

I’ve been universal recently and was not too impressed. Universal is more like a six flag great adventure park. Catering to the young adult generation where Disney is more family oriented. Even the attitude at universal is as such. But there is no imagination for kids or dreams for these kids to hold on to. Universal is fast moving …. A seperate section for younger kids and a more bigger separate section for the young adult. Family doesn’t blend into the whole park. Sure universal has young kids there but it doesn’t feel homely. Everyone looks at cost. Yes Disney costs is high but it’s the family relaxation part and family orientation part that makes Disney different. If I want to go on roller coaster I go to universal. If I want to enjoy family rides I go to Disney

  29. Jax

Not impressed with my recent Disney vacation – waaaay too much money for a second rate experience, thanks to all the extra costs for things that were previously included (ie Magicbands and Genie+). It will be a long while before my family comes back.

  30. Steve M

We had a recent split vacation at Disney and universal. We are a DVC member since 2004 and Disney fanatics. If we were to list our favorite 10 attractions, 5 were Disney and 5 were Universal; but in our top 20 list, universal wins. Disney deluxe resorts easily win over universal preferred resorts but universal easily wins the experience in the parks. The overall experience in Disney parks has really been reduced. We were able to go on many more universal attractions per day than we could in Disney. Very disappointing that there does not seem to be any motivation for Disney to fix this. They are content with selling out the parks in the short term.

  31. Wow I get you are republican.. some things you can’t blame on Joe.
MAYBE when the big ‘C’ was starting and if this country has closed like other countries did we wouldn’t be in the hot mess we are now. MAYBE if this country who had had a leader that knew what the hell was going on we would be in a better place. His goon Rudy and him paying off his Storm was a proud moment.

  32. GAdonald

Not going to detail my disappointment with a Disney that my wife and I have loved for years, agree with most of the comments. That said, today we purchased a USO Annual Pass. Will begin using at the end of our “last-hurrah” Disney early-December trip to conclude our ’21-’22 Disney AP. Won’t say “Never!” (maybe a week in 2-3 years from now), but this marks a turning point in our WDW loyalty. We’re leaving Disney, but really Disney left us!
