The legacy of the Ironman character is tremendous & will live on in the comics. Robert Downey Jr.’s legacy portraying this iconic character is nothing short of astounding, taking into account how interchangeable he & the Stark character have become. For the most part, RDJ IS indeed Tony Stark. The interesting thing is that should Stark ever return, if recast, it’s questionable if fans would accept a different actor in the role. I personally feel that Tony Stark/Ironman was killed off way too soon; he (the character of Stark) hasn’t had the opportunity to interact with upcoming fellow genius Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four, which I would very much LOOOOOOVE to see! A “science bro-off” is definitely in order, but without Stark, I do t know if it’d work. I continue holding out hope that Tony Stark will either be officially pulled back into the fray of Marvel universe action by way of either time travel, or plucking a Tony Stark from an alternate dimension perhaps. Even if it does happen either of those ways, fans would more than likely be expecting RDJ back in the role; should the role be recast, would the fans accept the new actor? That’s the question. While the character in any film should be the focal point & perhaps bigger than the performer playing them, in this case, RDJ is SO interconnected with Yony Stark, it seems almost inconceivable to see anyone else play Tony Stark other than RDJ. Robert Downey, Jr. truly brought the Ironman character to 3 dimensional life in so many ways. Will he return to 1 of his greatest roles? We can hope. Until then, let’s see what the MCU has in store for their universe, especially our favorite shellhead.
