They’re going to RMC it if they’re not announcing that it’s going to be torn down.

    1. GLF

WTF does RMC mean, you SMF.

      1. MAC

Why close it at the end of July? Why not wait until the season is over with?

      2. Isaac

It means it’s gonna be converted into a hybrid coaster. Where they use original foundation but top it with steel track allowing for more whippy and forceful elements. The RMC Hybrids

      3. Shane

Rocky Mountain Construction. It’s a coaster company out of Hayden Lake, ID

        RMC – Rocky Mountain Coaster

You must be unfiliar with coasters and therefore coaster lingo. Let me clue you in. . .RMC stands for rocky mountain construction, it’s a coaster company and they mainly focus on adding smooth hybrid tracks onto old wooden coasters. The layout of the coasters they convert stay the same but because they add a hybrid track it’s now much smoother ride. So when someone says they are RMCing a woodie it just means they are converting the track to make it smoother. You mainly only see it on old rough woodies.

Best roller coaster anywhere. Rode it many times.
So sad to see it demolished. Modern coasters do not compare to “wood coasters,” there is a certain thrill in wood coasters. Hershey Park “HAPPY.”

This is one coaster I do not do anymore bc it is so rough. I’m excited to see what lies ahead for this area.

    2. Danielle

We have one at playland here in New York, but it’s scary!!. It just looks like it’s falling apart and

      1. Jessica

Wooden coasters rattle my brain. I can’t do it anymore. Still, sorry to see such a popular ride torn down.

    3. Aj

There’s a certain pain that comes with wood coasters..

  4. Madeline

Rode the coaster several years ago and was scared to death. But I could certainly see why coaster fans would love it.

    1. Jessica

Just rode wildcat last week with my grandson and wow what a crazy ride it is !

  5. Aaron

Hershey has some excellent coasters. Wild cat was a great old wooden coaster and from the article it sounds like it will be recycled into something else.should be interesting.

    1. Casey

Theyre going to rmc it. Wooden and steel hybrid. Far much more smoother ride

  6. Fred

Why??? Does it need that much repair?

    1. Dj

Yeah, it’s a rough ride. I mean check your filling rough. RMC will make this a fantastic coaster.

I was at Hershey Park at least 48 yrs ago. All it had was a candy factory to tour. I went with my then boyfriend and son. It was really nice. My husband was from Pennsylvania near Dubois.

    1. Mark

Last time I was there was about 35 years ago when I was a kid. Gonna go back next week with my wife and kids. Just wanted to reply to your post because I also live a couple miles from DuBois and you don’t hear that towns name much anywhere haha.

    2. I would turn it into a big wooden pirate ship type attraction

  8. Kelli

I once trusted this site for actual news… They’re not getting rid of Wildcat. There has been so much talk over the years of it either becoming the first GCI titan track (I think that’s what it’s called) or it getting an RMC conversion.

If you look on Hershey’s official Twitter, RMC actually commented.

    1. Kelly

According to the parks website, they are… July 30th is the last day….

  9. Tom Hoade

I use to live in Gettysburg and went to Hershey Park as a kid. I loved the turnpike ride most but also loved touring the Hershey candy factory tour with free samples. You could smell Hershey miles away.

  10. Ophelia

Honestly glad that they’re going to fix this coaster. I haven’t ridden it in a while because it was such a migraine inducing rough ride.

    1. NotdeadDredd2

Excellent wooden coaster, was just there my daughters and i loved it! What a shame!

  11. CJ

Yes there was originally The Wild Cat at Hersheypark (then called Hershey Park) from 1923 to 1945.

The Wildcat debuted in 1996 as Hersheypark’s 1st roller coaster produced by Great Coasters International (GCI).

Online speculation says to expect a renovation / restoration via Rocky Mountain Construction.

I can wait and see if The Wildcat gets a hybrid wood and steel revamp on par with:

_Texas Giant (now New Texas Giant)
    _Gwazi (now Iron Gwazi)
    _Mean Streak (now Steel Vengeance)

I hope Wildcat Fans got 1 last ride before the roller coaster closes.

  12. James

    Ive never been there.

    1. Ellex King

The Wildcat could also be retrofitted with GCI’s own Titan Track. GCI has already put it on 3 Coasters but in certain areas of the ride to test it for integrity, and it has been a success. The Wildcat could very well be the 1st Canidate to have the Titan Track from start to end of the circuit. After all, it’s a GCI Rollercoaster. No one has even mentioned anything about markings on the cement footers or even stakes in the ground like on the Mean Streak site, long before the 1st RMC Truck was on the scene, or the 1st IBox track. Also Hershey Park could also save tons of money by just installing the Titan Track because the Coaster would still have the same profile and just make the Wildcat a butter smooth Rollercoaster ride experience.

Grandson went to school Milton Hershey started. He loved going to Hershey Park with the other students. He talked about the Wild Cat and how much fun it was. Of course the students from Milton Hershey School got to go to the park for free. He’s talking about going to Hershey Pa. with his family just to ride the Wild Cat, one more time. He graduated from Milton Hershey School in, 2000.

  14. Brian

Yes it had a certain roughness about it but I guess I’m just too old. I love the old woodies and this one was a favorite. I Love this ride. The RMC cat will be great for the younger softies!!! As I’m nearing my sixties I will go give it a try when it reopens.

  15. Mitchell

    Why.
If I had the money I would fix anything that was wrong on that fun ride.
    Sad.

  16. Jeff

Why in the heck are they closing this I mean is it in need of repair I can understand it it’s a beautiful classic what are they going to replace it with? I get tired of this kind of stuff. And I won’t get to ride it it looks like before it’s torn down. They should at least wait till the end of the main season.
