The Skywalker story has played out. Yes their are MUCH MORE that can be written about, but like Rogue 1, it really was not what the fans were looking for with the name Star Wars. This is what most fans are worried about.
Go back… say to the OLD EMPIRE or even older. Such that the fans KNOW there is no connection to the current storyline. But filling in the history. But DO HAVE the writers check CANNON to be sure something is not put in that could not have happened AT THAT time-line
I agree. So much awesome history to flesh out, should have been done already. Disney succeeded in killing off Luke and are now doing it with Kenobi, Boba Fett.
Making new star wars with new characters is one thing, destroying and ruining the legacy characters is another one.
Disney has ruined legacy star wars.
Lets face it , the super fans are gonna hate it, to take a quote from Old Ben “You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and Nerdery. We must ignore them”
LOL. Plenty of Star Wars fans loved stories from the EU that had nothing to do with the OT. The “Tales of the Jedi” comics are some of the most beloved EU stories out there. What the fans don’t like, and what you Disney fanboys and Disney don’t seem to be bright enough to understand, is arrogant morons writing idiotic characters in garbage-tier stories. It isn’t the fans’ fault Disney writes trash and actively p*sses on legacy characters and long established lore. It’s not a difficult thing to grasp…or at least it isn’t for anyone brighter than a toddler.
Not sure if you’re being facetious, but EU stands for Expanded Universe in this context.
And I agree, I am an old school SW fan and I’d love something else that’s not about Luke or Vader. I wouldn’t have minded Rogue 1 and all that if it was at least half way decent.
One of the biggest reasons I hate Disney films is because they’re erasing good canon with bad material. I was a huge fan of Dark Empire which also features Leia heavily and would have been perfect for Disney since they wanted to make Leia a Jedi.
Does it really matter if Disney ditches the Skywalker Saga? They’re never going to be able to recreate the level of frenzy from the 80s. Not the first time Disney has disappointed me by swallowing up my favorite franchises and studios, definitely won’t be the last.
No, fans didn’t embrace Rey, Finn and Po because they were poorly written characters in even worse stories. Star Wars face have long enjoyed well written new characters in interesting stories. One need look no further than Ahsoka, Mara Jade, Nomi Sunrises, Ulic Qel-Droma and Grand Admiral Thrawn. But neither Disney nor their fanboiz have the brains to understand that.
If they write stories that don’t mention theOT, then the stories better be good (Rogue 1). Otherwise the audience that grew up on the OT will abandon the whole Star Wars franchise. Then what what?
People act like everyone just hates new characters. But EP 7 was well recieved. EP 8 featured the least amount of lightsaber fights in the entire series and the scenes they were present weren’t very good. Just watch the post-Snoke death and pay attention to any guard. One of them has a disappearing weapon, one of them throws his weapon off screen before he gets hit. Then Luke’s final fight ends up being a hologram with no saber collisions. It’s like they don’t want to do any chroegraphy.
The reason the new Sequel Trilogy characters weren’t embraced, isnt because they weren’t in Ep 4-6,it’s because they were poorly conceived and written!!Much like the 3 movies they starred in.The scripts failed the characters, not the actors.
The last trilogy was terrible. Beyond terrible. Before you start deciding on who should be in it, get rid of Kathleen Kennedy and everyone around her. With 30+ years of Star Wars books in hand good subject matter shouldn’t be difficult… yet here we are.
You could just admit you don’t know what the word canon means. Canon is anything the IP holder says is canon, regardless of who created it. For example, Coruscant was created by Timothy Zahn and added to the films by George Lucas. It definitively is NOT one of Lucas’ creations, but it’s absolutely canon.
And the fans “abandoned” Lucas during the prequels because he had gotten so arrogant that he forgot why he hired legitimate screenwriters and other directors for the OT. Before his head swelled so large, he hired others to fix the mistakes he’d made in his scripts and hired better directors to compensate for his weaknesses so he could focus on his strengths. In the prequels he did it all…and it shows.
Say what you want about the prequels, nobody criticized the lightsaber fights. The backlash from Kenobi is largely due to the lack of lightsaber fights and the lack of quality in the ones that exist. Sure you had the flashback duel, which is basically just Anakin and Obi-Wan during the prequels doing another fight, but Vader vs Reva and Vader vs Kenobi were kind of pathetic compared to the prequels. Not to mention, they’ve spent less time fighting than any of the prequels despite their 3 hr 20 min runtime
In my opinion, the entire empire fighting the Republic is getting old. It would be interesting if the Republic & Jedi finally defeated the Empire and then faced a totally new more sinister threat from the Dark Side further in the future.
I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I was 6 when it came out in ‘77. I thought episodes 4-6 were amazing. Episodes 1-3 good. Episodes 7-9 OK. Rogue One fantastic. Han Solo fun. The Mandalorian excellent. Book of BFett absolute trash except the Mando episodes. Obi-Wan poor.
What do I see here? Skywalker series is done. Move on. I also see that the writers of Boba and Obi Wan suck. Disney is overall NOT the films/TV we’re looking for overall.
You can’t take 70s and 80s stories in that political climate and make them Woke Wars in 2022: it’s another galaxy.
Honestly I am all for moving on from the Skywalker Saga, simply because I’m tired of it getting butchered by Disney…..two major reasons why I say this is because…..
1) Although this doesnt have to do strictly with Disney, nothing made in this day in age will EVER touch the authenticity of the OT…..every character or space battle came to life by a real person, whether it was actual acting or the hands of one….CGI just doesn’t give it the same feel
And 2) Let’s be real here…..Disney will never be able to match the darkness of Star Wars, especially the OR…..they will never be able to portray Darth Bane or Reven for the monstrosities that they are…..Kylo Ren had so much potential to be an awesome character, but all they did was make him throw tantrums when his feelings got hurt…..a true hero in any story can only be made when they are made to face a truly evil power….and Disney will never do that
As long as you have the prequels and originals on either Blu-ray or DVD like i do, don’t even bother about it. It’ll always be on Disney Plus as well. The movies with the legacy characters are by far the best canon you can get by far. This reboot version has Kathleen Kennedy written all over it. Unless it’s the better style version, including EU parts. Either way, I’ll have to see it to actually decide if it’s canon anymore. About this point, who really cares what canon is. EU is more canon to me than anything Star Wars related at this point, so it’s mostly many creators, not just Lucas and Disney.
The reason the sequel trilogy didnt worked was because it was a rushed cashgrab project with no planning. Saying it was because sequels trilogy at large dont work or using legacy character is a bad idea is twisting the truth. A bad movie will stay a bad movie whanever if it a sequel, a prequel or a stand alone. It harder to make a sequel or to use legacy character because you have to respect the source material, something that was clearly not the case, like they kept saying that they have to kill the past. They should have started with stand alone movies and tv shows, and build up to the sequel trilogy, with respect. But i guess im just a voice in the void, and the promise of fast money for investors is better than artistic integrity and hurting the brand doesnt matter.
Does it matter? It’s going to be the same insipid, uninspired nonsense they keep repeating every time, pushed with political statements and left-wing slogans, followed by the same chastising of their fans that wanted an actual quality product. The people making this Star Wars content barely even watched Star Wars. Some of them never did!
The Star wars you already exist they’re just not willing to pick from the best of the stories… Totally ignoring what could be cannon in favor of writing new garbage.
Fans will love the idea of expansion and creation of new characters until it happens. Then they’ll get mad about it. The worst thing about star wars are the fans. They think they own the franchise. When all they do is postpone it and ruin it.
Bah, whatever. There doesn’t *need* to be more Star Wars. If you don’t reference the Skywalker saga or timeline – how is it Star Wars? No empire, no force?
If he can be clever and do something like or with KOTOR, ok.
But they make sound like he’s leaving not only the characters, but the lore behind as well. If so, then it’s SW in name only.
I’m a Skywalker/Solo fan. That said, I’m all for a new story, with new characters, in a new part of the universe. But the characters and storyline have to make sense.
Honestly, Mandalorian is the only good show outside of the Skywalker saga (and Luke does a cameo at the end of Season 2). Rebels was just ok. Boba Fett is confusing; his story is boring. The only interesting episodes included the Mandalorian and Grogu. Star Wars Resistance was horrible. The last 3 films were a train wreck.
Hopefully, this new story with new characters in a separate part of the universe will tell a story worth watching.
I think Disney has destroyed Star Wars and this is just getting worse. I cherish the classic saga and sticking with that because the recent ones with Rey, Finn, and Poe just didn’t grab me much. That’s just my opinion, though, and I’m sticking with it.
I want both. I want new stories with new characters, but also think there is room for expanding on the legacy story. Clearly there is a demand for both.

The only way to follow canon is to use Lucas’works (as he is the original creator) but you all abandoned him during the prequels.
