Chapek doesn’t care. He is squeezing every penny of profit out of the park, the Cast Members and the guests. He does not care that the rides are breaking down daily, down for an entire day or multiple days. The most shameful example – the Star Wars Nite at Disneyland – the $140 per person 4 hour event – ROTR was down for the entire event, multiple nights. Fire Chapek.

    1. Joem

Do you really think his job is to micromanage how rides are working? There’s someone else in the corporation who’s job is to fix breakdowns

      1. M

Fix and leave it be. #SaveSplashMountain

        1. Faith

          #savesplashmountain

      2. Aaron Scaron

I’m hoping they can make a ride that has a water flume and no scary falls.. Just wholesome fun!!

        1. This all makes me very sad. Splash Mountain has a sentimental spot in my heart and I’m sad it’s being revamped. My Gram took me to Disney World as a surprise during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween. She was about 74 (a young and active 74) and I was about 30. She went on a lot of the rides with me… even Splash Mountain. I showed her the big drop and asked her if she could handle it. She said, “Certainly!” We had a blast! I miss her so much. She was an awesome lady and Gram.

      3. Ray Thomas

Yes. When you approve budgets for maintenance staffing and ongoing expenditure, it IS his responsibility. When everyone answers to you, any chronic failures in an organization are up to you to find a way to correct. While he won’t be directly fixing the rides, his subordinates should be managing that. If they aren’t, it is Chapeks job to get them correcting things or replace them. The buck stops with him.

  2. Lori

Hope they fix it to it’s original wonderful self!!!! One of my all time favorite, beloved rides.

  3. Mike Raffone

Maybe it’s Bongo, the one eared baby rabbit from Life in Hell.

    1. Jan

Chapek and his mismanagement team have made a mess of things. Their obsession with money, money, money while the parks deteriorate is sad and repulsive.

  4. Phoebe L Ho

Gosh, never mind restoring it to a decent state for one last hurrah before they take it away from us for good. Guess that’s asking way too much.

    1. Toni

Why would they waste money fixing something that is being torn out? That is just silly and wasteful. Personally, I don’t care if a few things are broken, the ride is still good and it will be even better once it is revamped to Princess and the Frog. That south movie was well before my time and I don’t care about it. Most people who have saw that movie are really old and the kids will definitely prefer Princess and the Frog. And Disney is mostly about the kids, not adults who have a hard time letting go of the past.

      1. DisneyFan

Just goes to show you’re ignorant. “That south movie”. Maybe you should watch it, I’m 32 and it was “way before my time” as well but I’ve still seen it numerous times. A lot of kids love this ride and the characters even without having seen the movie. If you don’t like it, don’t ride it. Problem solved. Stop ruining things for everyone else because you’re a selfish brat.

  5. Eric

Just a bunch of hypocrites that want the ride shut down because they think the world revolves around them.

    1. Toni

Exactly! Reading these comments just oozes selfish entitlement. Disney is geared towards kids/families and that movie came out well before I was born. The movie itself is problematic and Disney has ever right to take it out. Even if the movie itself wasn’t problematic it’s old as heck and kids today have no clue what it is as they ride, so it makes perfect sense to turn it into Princess and Frog. It also makes no sense to spend heck a money to fix something about to be torn out. Myself and every kid will be so excited when it reopens under the new theme. I have no doubts it will be absolutely amazing and most people will be very happy with the change. But people have a really hard time letting go of the old. They will grip it while they drown with it rather than let go and swim, I swear. Craziness.

      1. DisneyFan

Hey, maybe some reading comprehension would be good for you. Eric was in agreement with everyone AGAINST the change.

  6. Aaron Scaron

That’s downright pitiful!!! Yes, agreed, Fire Chapel!!!!!

  7. Chris Kinney

When will the writers of these articles get it right? Splash Mountain is NOT based on Song of the South. It is based on an animated story told within the movie, and is in no way racist. People need to get a clue and worry about some REAL problems.

    1. Jorge

You are so right Chris. 1% of the population that doesnt attend disney has forced the popular ride to be changed. Guess all those standing in line from all nationalities are RACISTS!!

    2. AKMN

Amen. The few who don’t understand I ruining it for everyone else. Knitpicking where they don’t have all the info and understand. It breaks my heart all the things they are destroying including historical landmarks which aren’t to celebrate slavery but what they did to build our country. Very saddened.

  8. GregO

The current Clown running the “woke” show should be fired. Revamping this ride to satisfy the morons on the left with their never ending “racist” theme is getting old. Keep the Song of the South theme! Who wants another freaking princess theme?

  9. Patti

The most joyful ride ever. I have stood in long lines with people of every color for Splash Mountain. Anyone that waited in line for 90 minutes to ride this attraction better NOT be calling it racist. But I bet they are. Disney let it go downhill because they didn’t want to spend money on a ride they knew they were changing to pander to the liberal media.

  10. Ada

Here’s an idea Disney…less time focusing on politics and more time focusing on Walt’s vision, family fun and entertainment! Repair your damn rides – it’s what we are paying you a small fortune to do when we visit your parks!

    1. Tyk

      Shut up

    2. Teardrop

Agreed! They will be losing the people that give them the most money

      1. Doug

Yet the parks are busier than ever.

  11. Randy

Don’t change its theme that’s ridiculous! Fix what is there and bring it back to original state! It’s an amazing ride the way it was!

  12. “…many deem it racist…”
That’s because the film was created almost EIGHT DECADES AGO. Too many people today lack the wisdom to distinguish actual racism from historical perspective.

    1. Oma

Look at all the far right-wing racist comments on here, insisting they aren’t racist when they’re celebrating a story about slavery.

      1. Lizzie

Seriously people let’s get Disney to fix this ride with original theme of Singing of the South for people to enjoy incredible water ride. Also the current CEO needs to be fired so Disney can go back to being a family entertainment theme park and then bring back all of other services that we are lacking now ie Fast Pass, Hopper Tickets without restrictions, and bring back the dining plan as well.

      2. Ryan

It’s people like you who are the woke liberals. Making trouble for everyone else. Get life. People like you are broken records. Nobody cares about the past. Get over it.

      3. Calling people racists is despicable and does nothing to advance the discussion substantively.

      4. Paul

Irony: Calling people racist when they want to preserve the largest display in the world of the folktales of African-American slaves.
SoS was a frame in which to tell those stories. Splash Mountain completely removed that frame, leaving only the folktales.
Woke ignorance is going to erase REAL African-American culture from being exposed to tens of millions of people each year.

      5. RLS

I love listening to racists insisting they aren’t racist by using racist excuses! On of my favorite pastimes. These comments are gold! Pure gold!

        1. RLS: FU PIG

      6. Logan Hatfield

phew i was worried after the anika rose announcement

      7. Teardrop

You mean a story that was trying to teach kids not to be racist (which was a pretty important lesson in the 30’s)? These were based on real African American folklore, opposed to Princess and the Frog (a movie that just made rich white people even richer).

      8. ashley

it’s not about slavery you idiot, song of the south was set after slavery and the animated sequences in SOTS themselves have nothing to do with slavery, maybe watch the movie before you blab nonsense

      9. DisneyFan

Hey, get a clue there was no slavery in the movie. It takes place after the abolishment of slavery, but if you bothered to watch the film or do any research before spewing bs, you’d know this.

    2. DisneyFan

100%. Many people “deem it racist” but refuse to even take the time to watch the movie before they open their moronic mouths. And forget showing them proof of Br’er Rabbit existing wayyyy before SOTS, they don’t want any educational information at all. It’s just RACIST and that’s it in their minds. Totally close minded.

  13. Joe Vincent

Splash mountain will not be permanently closing.

  14. Meg L.

I last rode Splash Mountain with my mama who has crossed over now and I really miss her.We loved the Song of the South and Brer Rabbit theme and she used to read me the stories about the animals out of a hardcover Disney storybook we had when I was little. We found it in no way racist. The plantation theme was just how it was in that era and history should not be erased. There was no cruelty in the book, just a fun book with animal characters that taught us how to live the golden rule.It saddens me to hear of the rides decline and that it is being rethemed just to satisfy a liberal agenda.Disneyworlds just not what it used to be.

  15. Rillian

The new rides prob gonna be even worser.. 🤮 it honestly is just weird/upsetting that they won’t just REPAIR IT!!

  16. DENIS COLOMB

Will miss the ride, sad Disney is now the woke police

    1. Becca

His ear doesn’t look broken. He’s turning his head to the side. I’ve ridden this ride atleast 100 times easy. Also yes I love the original but it’ll be cool to see how they make it princess frog I’m sure they will keep knods to brer rabbit.

      1. DisneyFan

Nope, say goodbye to the Br’ers. Disney is removing all traces of them. Notice they’re now missing from the hoedown in Frontierland. You’ll never see them again after this.

  17. D

Unlike probably most of you, I was an attractions cast member on Splash Mountain in the 1990’s. I met my wife there. In fact for a period of time i had the privilege of being in charge of writing a report weekly of items that needed fixed in the “show”. If the show failed it was treated the same as a ride breakdown and the ride was closed and not reopened until fixed. The cast member in the tower was entrusted with that decision. On a weekly basis I rode through as a guest and walked the track to look at everything closer. Obviously these days the show means nothing to management only money. This will only be fixed if the entire management team is replaced. Which we all know won’t happen. It’s a real shame to everyone but I suspect it is really sad for anyone who has worked hard as an attractions cast member. Towards the end of my tenure there it started to become obvious new management team members were more worried about how many guests were shoved through the rides versus the quality of the entertainment provided. These days it’s about the all mighty dollar. This may never change. And it’s very sad. I’m not even going to address the idiots who say this ride is racist. I will only remember the smile of that small child who was just barely tall enough to be able to ride for the first time who is probably bringing there kids now. That ride has entertained both myself my kids and now my granddaughter. And that is what Walt’s dream was. They may be able to replace the theme but they won’t replace the memories.

    1. Elaine

I wish I could like this comment. Thank you for sharing your experience and I wish we could have stayed in that Disney era. So many good memories! So sad how much has changed.

    2. AH

      Well said.

    3. Sarah

D, yours has got to be the best, most heartfelt comment on here. Thank you for that

    4. DisneyFan

AMEN. I’ve ridden it with my family year after year, and now I’m older and one day will be starting a family of my own. Unfortunately because of these morons who have no understanding of the cultural significance of the stories this ride is actually based on, my future kids will never get to share in the memories we could have made together on the most iconic attraction. Very sad. Disney only cares that they THINK they will make more money on Princess merch for the ride…

  18. Logan Hatfield

bruh the splash mountain retheme is literally cancelled my friends philip kaden and blacked out gaming are starting a podcast about this topic soon to confirm the rethemes cancellation? why cant you leave this ride alone

  19. Mario

There is nothing racist about Sing of the South.

    1. Becca

His ear doesn’t look broken. He’s turning his head to the side. I’ve ridden this ride atleast 100 times easy. Also yes I love the original but it’ll be cool to see how they make it princess frog I’m sure they will keep knods to brer rabbit.

    2. ashley

but sadly people don’t take the time to see that, all they need to do is watch the movie

  20. T. davenport

It’s theoretically impossible to please everyone.
Broadly enjoyed facilities are often extinguished when the most politically vocal are displeased.
For political carnivores, you-do-your-thing-n-I’ll-do-mine compromise is not enough. Instead, “your thing*” must cease to exist.
    * albeit, likely applicable to “your thing” items that breach consent boundaries.

  21. Autumn

The ride has been changing since late December of last year. Our last experience of it was our last day in the parks, and we had to see it with a massive area of the ride just gone and hollowed out. After the ride, my mom cried, as she use to be a cast member in her younger years, and it broke her heart to see the ride in that state and still being open and rideable. I really wished they closed the ride earlier, instead of leaving it open while trying to do renovations. It truly killed the magic, and I’ll never forgive them for that.

  22. Cary

I am ready for a revamp or a retheme.
The ride has a lot of boring scenes from last I remembered it.
Just liked the part of all the animals singing zippedi do da at the end.
Not the drop and getting soaked.

    1. Matt

How is a re-theme going to stop you getting dropped & soaked? Maybe stick to the kiddies rides.

    2. DisneyFan

This comment is exactly why the ride shouldn’t be touched. Little girls in their Princess Tiana dresses all dolled up from their Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience, are not going to be happy getting soaked! Their parents won’t be thrilled either after all the money spent on those makeovers! This is not the appropriate attraction for a Princess ride. They need to build a new attraction from scratch, more like a POTC type dark ride.

  23. Carl

If all the visuals and animatronics are broken it does make me wonder about the overall safety of the ride itself. I do know Disney is short maintenance staff across all the parks and short Cast Members period. That’s why they brought back the low wage college students to supplement the shortage. College students are doing things unheard of before due to the shortage of actual full time or part time workers. Cast Members know Bob Chapek’s mantra is “profit over anything else”.

  24. Matt

Time to get several thousand fans around the Mountain screaming “Save our ride”. Maybe then Disney will wake from their woke state…

  25. snelly

The ride is outdated, might as well revamp it. I have no idea of what SotS is about and neither do most of the crowd (unless you’re obsessed with Disney, which people probably aren’t to that level at least) since most of the young adults of today weren’t alive to see it. Ask a 23 year old what the ride is based on and i bet, unless they watch Disney obsessed YouTube channels, that they will have absolutely no clue, they’ll say it’s just some animals singing in a dark flume ride. Make the ride interesting and new; basing it on the bayous of Louisiana would be so cool and culturally enriching since people around the world travel to that park, they might as well get a taste of the (slightly more modern) culture. You say “well P&tF is based on the 1920s”, I’m sorry, what year is SotS based on? When was it released? The story of the ride is almost comparable to Mr. Frog, kids don’t know who that is, but the ride itself is fun (a bit tacky but what else can you do) and that’s why they ride it. Princess and the frog would be fun as all hell with new lighting and effects, something entertaining. I’ve ridden both splash mountains several times and all I can tell you is I can’t remember a darn thing about the ride’s story, just that the drop is terrifying that you’re guaranteed to get your socks wet.

    1. DisneyFan

I have a solution to your problem, watch SOTS and MAYBE, just maybe you’d have a clue what it was about. Better yet, do some digging online and you may even be surprised to find that gee, these characters are actually a part of black culture and should not be eliminated. As a 32 year old, I’ve seen the movie and I’ve done my research. There’s no excuse why others can’t do the same, they might just learn something…imagine that! People want to complain about how there’s “happy slaves” in the movie (there’s not, it takes place after slavery ended), but then have no problem watching a children’s movie like PaTF which takes place in the 1920’s and glosses over segregation by depicting a poor black girl being friends with a rich white girl which would never have been the case, nor would she have been able to open her own restaurant.

  26. Chris

The ride is being closed for renovations….it’s no wonder why things seem to be messy. Yes the experience is technically not the best, but what do you expect?? I, for one, am very excited to see what they do with Princess and the Frog! For all we know, it could be even better than the original!

  27. Jamie Bates

I still think this is one of my absolute favorite rides at Disney and I was just there two weeks ago. Don’t ever get rid of this ride! I wish people would just stop complaining!

  28. Robert Michael Fields

I still love the ride, even if some things aren’t working properly. It is the main reason that I go to Disney World. Don’t tear it down, just spend some money to fix it up.

  29. DisneyFan

This just goes to show that current leadership does not give a sh** about guest experience, only guests $$$$$. If you think they will take better care of this ride once it’s re-themed, you’re in for a rude awakening…Princess Tiana or not, it will be done cheaply and they still won’t do necessary preventative maintenance on whatever animatronics they re-skin. Splash Mountain should be left alone, and these greedy a******* need to get back to caring about guest experience. Walt loved these characters and this ride should NOT be touched. Fix it and leave it as is. Create a new ride for PATF in Fantasyland where it belongs, or turn Tom Sawyer Island into a ride and restaurant…hello, perfect bayou setting. Wake up Disney!!
