Love Joe Rohde – he’s a legend yet still will take the time out of his well deserved retirement to chat with us Disney geeks. I’d prefer to know what he thinks of the forced move to Florida. That’s just my 2 cents. 🙂
At D23 in 2019, I had the pleasure to discuss the location with another imagineer. I actually agree with the location. 1) it is in the future/space area. You don’t need to build a huge land just for one themed ride 2) it uses your imagination- something that Disney encourages, with the location and storyline. 3) while I understand that EPCOT was supposed to be the city of the future, Walt also said things should always change and grow. The new current park imagineers are sticking with that belief and growing. They are mingling the culture with IP to share how cultures and stories from those cultures have influenced the beloved IPs of today and yesteryear. They are showing how science and imagination bring us stories we love. So grow with Disney and embrace the changes.
Or, just continue drinking around the world- which wasn’t what Epcot was actually imagined to be known for either.
“Though fans who have been able to preview the wide have…” the wide what? Seats, line que, hallways? Have they made adjustments for larger size people to enjoy this? Curious minds want to know.
Since Reedy has been defunct by state law why doesn’t WDW just envelope all of it into the park itself and actually create Walt’s vision for Epcot HOUSING for all of its Employees including family if needed and just rename the current Epcot?
I’m sure the ride is fun, but I’m so dang tired of all the Marvel stuff. If I wanted superheroes, I’d go to Universal. I’d just like to see some creativity with new ideas again, instead of using IPs as a crutch.
If a Ride or Attraction is fulfilling the rider per hour (vs nobody rides it – such as Nemo’s Submarines at Disneyland), as well as getting Park Guests to purchase swag once off the Ride / through with the Attraction … then it has successively fulfilled the Disney mandate.
Perhaps Tron would have been better in EPCOT (focusing on the computer science aspect of the tech) and Guardians in Magic Kingdom. But at the end of the day, the original vision for EPCOT seems abandoned so adding Guardians to EPCOT seems fine.
Although the ride doesn’t fit the theme of EPCOT, it sure was an awesome experience. The queue was a bit boring with two videos to see. One of which mentioned the Big Bang as though they were trying to pay homage to the previous attraction. I think Disney hired the right people to design this attraction this time around, though. I think people will like it a great deal.
Joe Rohde is the man! Huuuuuge loss to Disney! They shouldve offered how ever much he wanted to stay, but then again…he probably saw what Bob Chapdick was about to do to Disney.

This was not supposed to be a reply to you, I’m sorry. LOL

This is the first Marvel attraction in Walt Disney World.

When the Submarines at DL are open there is a constant line, just an FYI….

Iconic? Not so much and really Joe – that ridiculous earring has to go. You want Iconic? John Hench, Tony Baxter, John Stone…….
