Joking aside, it is a pity they are displacing so many workers from a place they call home for so long. It’s okay Disney, I am sure universal or some other entertainment company is salivating at the mouth hiring very talented imagineers.
DC Comics did this a few years ago when their parent company WB wanted them to move from NYC to CA. People were told move or lose your job. Not saying it’s right but it happens all the time.
There’s $1 Billion relocation tax incentives that Disney won’t give up and Florida has not repealed. So that’s why the move is still on. Disney can also pay them less and take home pay remains the same. Florida has no state income taxes. Disney is stupid to get into a political fight with Florida, but not that stupid to stay in California.
Got that backwards. DeSantis was stupid enough to get into a war with Disney. Disney would be a worldwide empire with or without Florida. But Florida without Disney is a swamp with MAGA rednecks.
Disney has shown its afraid of DeSantis. They’ve been quiet ever since it started it’s war with Florida. It clearly doesn’t want to lose more benefits from a business friendly state. California is poison.
California is a cancer and everyone and everything is leaving because of it. Another few years and supreme ruler Newson will have the national guard at the borders prohibiting exit.
Our kids just moved out of CA to FL. There was a huge penalty to rent a truck for moving “out” of CA. It actually cost less to rent a truck in TX, drive it to CA and then across the country to FL (gas, hotels and everything included) than to simply rent a truck to leave CA! CA is a beautiful prison with great weather but a commie government!
All I can tell you from personal experience as a former Imagineer is that even ignoring the pay cuts, the massive loss of irreplaceable creative and talented minds that know how Disney is supposed to be done, and the freaking humidity, there is no way in hell I would ever move my family or any person that I care about into such a backward, soul sucking place. The very concept of having to check your politics, your ethics, your beliefs, potentially your sexuality and/or even your relationship at the border is just flat out offensive. Not only am I absolutely certain that my late husband, a talented Imagineer before his passing, would have absolutely refused to drag his family back through time to Lake Nona – I know that quite a number of long time Imagineers are planning not to make this horrible choice. Their skills are the best in the business. I can’t imagine that they will have too much trouble finding other companies who will appreciate what WDI is throwing away.
Well said. The other side of this coin is the effect this will have on West Coast RIde/Show vendors. We have already seen a huge loss in our relationship with Universal Creative since their relocation to Florida, and sadly I expect the same when Imagineering moves. We will likely retain our work with TDA, but will West Coast vendors get as many opportunities on future projects and expansions?

In case it may help change your mind, you absolutely can purchase green, blue or pink hair dye down here as well as get CNN and MSNBC on cable. Gas and electricity is cheaper here as well but unfortunately we haven’t got the human poop on the streets that your used to.
As a spouse of a recently relocated, I’d be really upset if they didn’t! We sold our home, moved away from family and friends to be part of the big relocation. I wish the best for those who chose not to relocate, as well as others, like us, that have made the move. We are excited to see what living in Florida has to offer!
If only those who complain about Florida would just not go there. Traffic would be better and you can tell the natives from the guests because the natives tend to be polite.
They need to stop lying about the don’t say gay law which in reality doesn’t ban gay rights or anything. its just puts a ban on teaching very young children Kindergarten to 3rd grade about gays lesbian and trans. Let the parents decide whan its appropriate to learn about that. Nothing against young adults or adults LGBT. So you stupid liberals stop distorted things. As for getting out of California great move its a poorly operated state and overburdened taxes ,rules and regulations. I am sure a majority of employees will go and enjoy more money in their pockets like no income tax

Getting the offer to say relocate 1/2 your Imagineer Team to Florida seems logical (they can handle Florida + Paris).
Keeping the other 1/2 in California (to handle Florida + Japan + China) is logical.
You could move 1/2 of that 1/2 in California to Nevada, if you want to save money.
Make moving an offer vs mandatory, because Imagineers will retire and quit vs relocate (it’s already happening).
