This is a hard topic. On one hand I understand why they made these changes/want to, but on the other hand these are iconic rides at Disney.
The fact that the person is upset and concerned about the stretch room scene in Haunted Mansion, should maybe realize that yes those claims are all warranted, but you’re walking into a ride that’s called Haunted Mansion. The name itself should imply what to expect. I’m not trying to be cruel or anything. Maybe they replace it with a scary face or something.
It’s just these rides are iconic and have been apart of the parks for a long time and while change is nice, it should be made with respect to the rides theme in mind. Yes this scene may be disturbing to some, but again they’re pirates it’s what they did.
Again don’t get me wrong I do understand why they removed the scenes from these rides. Maybe it’s hard for me because I love these rides so much, and those thoughts honestly never came to mind? Not trying to sound heartless, but I just enjoyed taking it all in and being immersed in the ride and enjoying it. I always felt Disney rides were a nice escape from the outside world we live in daily. So maybe that has to do with it.
Again I understand both sides please don’t take my words the wrong way.
Definitely sad that someone wants everyone to feel includes and welcome in the parks. 🙄
The problem with people saying others are too “woke” is that you only care about your experience. How sad to be so threatened by others getting to enjoy themselves. It’s a theme park not pie, they are not going to run out of white princesses just because they add a few princesses if color
Why are you tip-toeing around the subject? Why are you pre-apologizing for having an opinion? No, Disney should NEVER cater to a fool, who is “afraid” if a scene on a ride. It’s embarrassing to see what is happening. The Princess and the Frog re-theme, is something NO ONE asked for. So, now that that’s done, will they STOP complaining? The answer is NO. Now, they feel empowered to have a mega- company bend to their will, and will find new targets.
With all the money they lost on Mulan which was basically a communist china propaganda movie the go broke part really showed in the box office for that one.
That movie should not have been called The Princess and the Frog. It should have been called The Princess IS the Frog! I went to watch the movie delight to see a black princess. Turns out, Tiana put on somebody else’s dress for like 2 seconds, then turned into a frog for the entire rest of the movie. People don’t seem to notice that it isn’t a movie about a black princess, but rather a green frog. A cute frog, but a frog all the same.
I wish Disney would make a movie about a real black princess, with a kingdom and everything.
I love Tiana but I agree, she spent way too much time as a frog. And for all her independence she turned out to be another princess whose happiness depended on a man, and a pretty shallow one at that. I hope she won’t be the only black princess.
When Disney started making all these changes, I was another person who wondered why they were keeping the hanging scene in The Haunted Mansion. That’s a lot worse than some of the things Disney has changed on their rides.
With that being said, however, all of Disney’s rides are iconic and I don’t agree with any of the changes. I would hate to see that Haunted Mansion scene changed. I just find Disney’s priorities weird when it comes to offensive content.
You said it! Disney is trying to please both sides of the line…the “woke” and “unwoke,” instead of simply staying true and authentic to the Disney stories and history behind them. Disney is losing more and more of its magic, trying to change things to suit the easily-offended snowflakes in our society who would probably never spend the money to visit Disney in the first place.
So TRUE!! Disney itself us an Iconic American Culture. Oh yes it maybe a Theme Park. But if you Really Look into each ride there are meanings that relate to Our Society over the Years! The Hall of The President’s. 🇺🇸 It’s a Small World. 🌎 And some are just Story Tells that were Told Long Ago. Take Away that & You Take Away History! Hans Christian. anderson was one of My Relatives. He wrote ALOT of Stories Such as… The Little Mermaid. The Ugly Duckling, Thumbelina, The Snow Queen, etc… Disney took ideas from some Books & Turned them into the Iconic Rides We have Today!! 😍 I Love 💗 to go back to Disney & take My Whole Family for Weeks of Fun!! 😜 Hopefully one day I can! 💗😍
At Disneyland they change the Stretching Room for about 5 months out of the year (Jack Skellington shows up instead of the hanging scene) and people complain that it’s not what they want to see. People are never happy.
These changes to avoid offending the current generation of noisy emotions that decided to be offended is only going bring on different and greater changes as other loud emotions and feelings of offense are broadcast and will make up more and more things about society they choose to be hurt about. No person who ever complained about the topics, phrases, and scenes will be placated by the changes being made by Disney. The loud criticism will never end, and the requirements to change to avoid offending will only get worse and worse.
I, for one, see some change is Disney, but there is a cause for massive offense that Disney REFUSES TO ADDRESS. This HUGE isssue is with the icon of a large mouse — which everyone knows even if they dont say it– an oversized mouse is A RAT. Dont you think people who deal with large pesky rodents in their life are usually the UNDERPRIVILEDGED, less wealthy and downcast people in the world? Iconizing a rat to the vast majority of the 3rd world is horribly indecent and shows no compassion for those who need it most– the skin colors and class groups around the world who have less money, but no less pride. They dont think a COMMERCIALIZED RAT is a positive or happy image, let alone something they would find in the happiest place on earth! The people who have benefited from the commercialization of the rodent should all give the money they are earning on the backs and emotions of those less privileged to poor and oppressed people around the world. I hurt for all of those badly offended and valuable people-groups. Disney is full of rotten racist econo-phobic SCUM!
See what I mean? The crazy can go to the very nature of Disney’s entire offering, and eventually the hurt and offended choosing to boycott to force Disney to change will take EVERYTHING from Disney. It only gets uglier from here.
Little by little the Magic is disappearing, poor Walt these woke Bozos are destroying his legacy. I sold my DVC points and stopped going to Disneyworld also stopped purchasing Florida resident pass. Soooo Sad🥵🥵
Disney is simply trying to shield itself from trumpanzeeism from infecting its parks. Look no further than how your fellow tribesmen act in the hall of presidents.
Nobody got offended by Trader Sam and the other half of the jungle cruise that got removed.
The only people that got offended by the bride for sale part on Pirates were just feminists
We all knew Splash Mountain was based off of a film that had very racist content but we didn’t care we just enjoyed the fun of the ride.
I’m guessing you could say these were victories for the Twitter Mob and Disney Virtue Signaling
Disney is simply trying to shield itself from trumpanzeeism from infecting its parks. Look no further than how your fellow tribesmen act in the hall of presidents.
There’s no “racist content” in SOTS. The film takes place after slavery…there are no slaves in the film. Uncle Remus was a free man, hence why he was going to leave for Atlanta? Would a slave be able to leave at their will? No. Everyone who hasn’t actually taken the time to watch the movie wants to talk shit and label it, and anyone who enjoys it, racist. Watch it and form your own opinion instead of echoing everyone else who also never watched it.
If you are offended by a ride about a rabbit, a fox, and a bear you see the issue. Nothing in that ride is racist. It doesn’t even have humans in it. It’s literally cartoon characters. I would be willing to say 80% of people haven’t ever seen Song of the south…
Maybe the reason many people haven’t seen it is because even Disney knows they messed up making it. There’s a reason they don’t release it anymore or even acknowledge it outside of the characters within the attraction.
They don’t release it or acknowledge it in the US is because of over-reaction and a younger generation being raised without being taught the context of the era in which the film was made…. It was created as a way for Walt Disney to share one of his favorite childhood books – which happened to be folktales compiled from former slaves in the south during the 1880’s…. The film is the way it is, because the book was the way it was, and that’s simply the way it was…. Humming and looking away and pretending Reconstruction didn’t happen is only fueling these wackos we have running around now claiming things were all great after the civil war for freed slaves.
Also, Disney has no problem releasing Song of the South in every country but the US. It’s available for sale, shown on television, and even acknowledged as Disney’s FIRST live action film – which it was.
You do realize that the African American Actors and Actresses had no problem with the film and even stated in interviews that if they felt it was harmful to their people they would not have participated in it.
I think people need to get over it it’s a park it’s not hurting anyone.I know no one said anything about these rides way back yonder when they first came out no problems everybody enjoyed them and had fun and all because all this BS that’s been going on do you wanna change everything just leave the parks alone and let everybody enjoy it
Disney wants to change the noose in a ride about pirates…. Which in any documentary would be rated R because of the cruel reality……
But bows and follows all the rules and ways of the communist country of China that has work slaves. Concentration camps, forced abortions, forced organ harvesting etc……
If the removal of these tiny details that have very little bearing on the ride or attraction is what sends you over the line and complaining about Disney “going woke,” just be honest with yourself – you were at the ready to be upset about SOMETHING. With maybe Splash Mountain being the exception, did any of these details’ removal really have THAT much of an effect on your experience? A noose goes missing, but do you not still know you are on Pirates of the Caribbean? A few changed elements on Jungle Cruise were so drastic, you couldn’t even make out if this was the EXACT same ride with the fun animatronics, the chugging boat ride, and incredibly cringe puns (or lovely ones, if that’s your thing)? It’s two sides of the same coin. The reddit comments and some of these honestly have me chuckling; you are the same people lining up with the rest of ’em in the park, consuming the same products, and giving the same money to the House of Mouse.
If not not removing these tiny details that have very little bearing on the ride or attraction is what sends you over the line and complaining about Disney “going woke,” just be honest with yourself – you were at the ready to be upset about SOMETHING.
EDIT:
If not removing these tiny details that have very little bearing on the ride or attraction is what sends you over the line and complaining about Disney “not going woke,” just be honest with yourself – you were at the ready to be upset about SOMETHING.
What’s next? Some slow boat ride surrounded by dolls from around the world all singing a song about world unity in multiple languages? Is that really what Walt would have wanted?
Changing these rides that depict the history of pirates and such, is like taking MLK out of the museum in Memphis because there’s not enough white people in it. Can’t people just get along? Quit complaining about EVERYTHING just to make a point? Everyone is not going to be happy about something. When it comes to Disney rides, they’re for humor, not offensiveness. Notice, in the well on Pirates, it’s a white guy at the end of a rope. My gosh people, this is getting out of hand.
There’s nothing what so ever racist about splash mountain. There’s not even people in it. What Disney should do is REMAKE the movie “song of the south”. Remake it into a film that’s not racist whatsoever and then keep splash mountain.
I wouldn’t go that far — they’re not the focus of the movie. The focus is retelling folk tales in animated format, with Uncle Remus as the storyteller.
And as I’ve heard the folk tales are either African or Native American in origin, the erasure of the movie as “racist” is ironic.
You are correct Rob.. The folktales are mostly a mix of stories passed down vocally over the generations, many of which came from the African continent its self. Or, as Uncle Remus says in the film (and the book) “far, far, back almost beyond the memory of telling.”
While slavery was legal in the south it was often illegal to teach slaves how to read and write. One of the reasons the book was written in the first place (by an abolitionist newspaper contributor) was to prevent their being lost to history as they were never written down. Now, over 100 years later – people are doing everything they can to make sure we lose those stories…
The real problem is that no one is addressing issues in a logical or thoughtful way but knee here reacting to every overly woke or sensitive person who perceives an issue exists. Addressing blatant racism is one thing but freaking out over scary stuff in a dark ride? Where does it end? History isn’t always pretty. We are meant to learn from it. Sanitize everything but it won’t change human nature till we teach kindness and respect as parents
Blatant racism?! You’re absurd. How can there be “blatant racism” on a ride with ZERO human beings depicted? Wow. If you find animals racist, you have bigger problems.
Changes to Jungle Cruise: they had to.
Pirates: at this point, they had already done so much that the bride auction removal was kind of gratuitous.
Splash Mountain: please don’t.
Haunted Mansion: is what it says. You really expect it to be pretty?
To be very clear, this had nothing to do with actual discussions among actual fans. This is outsider extremists trying to push their fake “culture wars” on our hobby, just like they’ve done with the Disney and Marvel and star wars movies, which they’ve turned into ground zero for their phony culture wars any time they don’t feature exclusively white men. . They will use any attempt to try to radicalize people into their alt-right extremism.
You’ve been amplifying these extremists for quite some time now.
Stop giving radical extremists a platform to promote and spread their radical political agenda into our otherwise fun hobby on your site.
I’m sorry.. What about a “bride sale” or a hangman’s noose hanging from a prison tower is stereotypically racist? What part of a story passed down from Africa about a rabbit outsmarting a fox and a bear is stereotypically racist? If you’re referring to the way the actors spoke in dialog in Song of the South, that is simply true to the book the film was made from.
In 50 years (or less) the Princess and the Frog will be just as shunned for everything it got wrong…. Stereotypical black villain voodoo doctor maybe? Improper depictions of Segregation in the 1920’s Deep South perhaps?
Are the adults done bickering yet? I haven’t been to the parks since I became an adult 40 years ago. Instead of sending my adult self to the Disneyland or Magic Kingdom to clog up the parks and lines for young families, I send a child between the ages of 5-10 years to the parks instead. If every Disney fan did the same there’d be a ratio of 20 kids per adult rather than 20 adults per kid at the parks. I couldn’t possibly enjoy it more than that young child. I wish every adult that has been numerous times could know the joy of sending a young child instead. Now THAT is being a REAL Disney fan.
You should Have NEVER Changed Disney . You have taken Dreams away from children world and believe WHAT THEY WANT TO BELIEVE . You have listened to Culture . You loose kids and families because of rides and turning it into an Adult World . You have taken out the best rides and nothing left . KIDS go only to see the Characters . You have forgotten Children’s Dreams from books they brought up with . Now you rise prices , have fights on parks and nothing being done . STOP Changing things . Bring BACK what Brings them to DISNEY WORLD.
I am so over this cancel culture, whining, changing all rides that some may find “offensive” today. I understand Splash Mountain, but The Haunted Mansion? Pirates of the Caribbean? Get over it. I can’t anymore.
Disney execs are constantly trying to find something to do to justify their employment. Changing things is the easiest way to keep busy and appear productive and useful. It’s about keeping a paycheck. Reality. Find something to change and it will keep you busy for quite a long time. It’s like sweeping a clean floor for hours, but in Disney’s case it’s like sweeping a marble floor with acid and a wire brush.
Not making fun of you, just out of curiosity how the heck do you plan to do that? Personally I’d rather see Disney burn to the ground just to start again
Those idiots really should have thought of that before they went the “PC” route. Now Disney is nothing more than a shell of its former self. Constantly catering to a culture that will never be pleased, no matter how many changes they make or how woke they get.
I am done with the Disney and I am a former cast member. If I am offended by all the politically correct changes they made are they changing them back – nope. Its the whiny woke cry bullies they respond to so they can up their corporate social Impact score. Environmentalism, social justice and political correctness gets shoved down throats of of guests. the final straw was the plan to retheme splash and their continual sexualization of kids. This company has lost its way. Chapek and the lot of them needs to go.
Who can blame them really? It’s the smart business move like it or not. Disney didn’t invent wokeness but they can sure lose business from bad PR once someone pitches a fit over the “offensive” noose imagery featured in their attractions. Anything even potentially insensitive is now a liability, why leave yourself open to that if you don’t have to? All that matters is dollars and they think it’s better for business to be safe than to take a stand and risk the wrath of the woke mob. Just how things are now
Sometimes I thinks they make all this nonsense propositions in order to have us talking about it and not talking about how necessary is a 5th and even a 6th park.
In a while will no longer matter how much virtue signaling they want to portray because it won’t be a pleasant experience for anyone in the whole political spectrum.
Off course. Paycheck maybe thinking “Who cares? I can retire now”
That’s a good retheming idea! Let’s retheme Paycheck
I’m sorry. Am I the only one that thinks that these changes are ludicrous. I get cancel culture to a degree, but not at the point of removing it from history. Removing a noose from Pirates ride is stupid considering that in those days it was a norm. It’s part of history. Even if kids ride it. It’s our jobs as parents to explain the history to the children. Don’t like doing that job? Don’t have kids then.
I’ve been saying it for years, Disney is far left and extremely woke. If .001% of the people that visit Disney can control everyone’s experience something is very wrong. The people that want to imagine being a pirate for a few minutes, chasing women, bride auctions and yes even a public hanging noose and can not tell right from wrong probly should not be out of the asylum. The same for people that don’t like scary things, like a dead body, in a haunted house.
Disney juat changed Snow White and the Seven Dwarves to Snow Brown and the Magical Creatures. Yes. People need to voice their concerns about PC culture.
My main concern is Splash Mountain. There is NOTHING wrong with those animals and the fun boat ride. Before 06-01-2020, nothing bad was said about this ride. Now, the very small percentage of loud Wokers are trying to push their agenda everywhere they can. However, the real villains are the WDW leaders who are to complete cowards to stand up to them. Instead, they try to cower to that small group and antagonize the much larger. There’s no reason for this, we go to WDW to get away from politics and social disagreements. Now, WDW pushes it on us in the parks. As an annual visitor, I don’t know how much longer I plan to go. A very sad testimony to a very sad society. I look more forward to the Lord’s return…
Political correctness has been bastardized from its original meaning, which is to not do something to hurt anyone deliberately. When you know better, do better. Thanks for continually trying to improve, Disney parks.

What’s next? Some slow boat ride surrounded by dolls from around the world all singing a song about world unity in multiple languages? Is that really what Walt would have wanted?
Anon
Even that’s not “PC” enough. In fact, it’s “appropriation” to social justice warriors.
WokeIsFail
When do we get a ride with shootings, arson, and looting?
Lys
We did…Pirates! Lol
Rich R
Changing these rides that depict the history of pirates and such, is like taking MLK out of the museum in Memphis because there’s not enough white people in it. Can’t people just get along? Quit complaining about EVERYTHING just to make a point? Everyone is not going to be happy about something. When it comes to Disney rides, they’re for humor, not offensiveness. Notice, in the well on Pirates, it’s a white guy at the end of a rope. My gosh people, this is getting out of hand.
Think Alittle
So your remedy to the complaining is to complain about the complaining. How’s that going for you? Did they undo all the miniscule “woke” changes yet?
kasbaf
But… Aren’t you, in your post, complaining??
Thought so!
Shan
There’s nothing what so ever racist about splash mountain. There’s not even people in it. What Disney should do is REMAKE the movie “song of the south”. Remake it into a film that’s not racist whatsoever and then keep splash mountain.
Kbear
I saw that film. The only smart one in it is uncle remus. The white family are idiots….

👌
Rob Crawford
I wouldn’t go that far — they’re not the focus of the movie. The focus is retelling folk tales in animated format, with Uncle Remus as the storyteller.
And as I’ve heard the folk tales are either African or Native American in origin, the erasure of the movie as “racist” is ironic.
Drake
You are correct Rob.. The folktales are mostly a mix of stories passed down vocally over the generations, many of which came from the African continent its self. Or, as Uncle Remus says in the film (and the book) “far, far, back almost beyond the memory of telling.”
While slavery was legal in the south it was often illegal to teach slaves how to read and write. One of the reasons the book was written in the first place (by an abolitionist newspaper contributor) was to prevent their being lost to history as they were never written down. Now, over 100 years later – people are doing everything they can to make sure we lose those stories…
Phoebe L Ho
Even if they thought about remaking it, which they won’t, its reputation is so bad that it can’t run away from trouble. There’s no place that far.
Kbear
The real problem is that no one is addressing issues in a logical or thoughtful way but knee here reacting to every overly woke or sensitive person who perceives an issue exists. Addressing blatant racism is one thing but freaking out over scary stuff in a dark ride? Where does it end? History isn’t always pretty. We are meant to learn from it. Sanitize everything but it won’t change human nature till we teach kindness and respect as parents
DisneyFan
Blatant racism?! You’re absurd. How can there be “blatant racism” on a ride with ZERO human beings depicted? Wow. If you find animals racist, you have bigger problems.
Phoebe L Ho
Changes to Jungle Cruise: they had to.
Pirates: at this point, they had already done so much that the bride auction removal was kind of gratuitous.
Splash Mountain: please don’t.
Haunted Mansion: is what it says. You really expect it to be pretty?
Rob Crawford
Why did they “have” to change Jungle Cruise?
There really were (are?) people who shrunk human heads.
Phoebe L Ho
They were portrayed in a negative way. And the trapped safari scene with the white hunter at the top says imperialism.
Davidhhh
Rob Crawford
Wow. Your comment is the mirror image of reality.
Not a sheep
Spot on!
Jb
“The magic is disappering” is a weird way to say “I don’t like casual racist stereotypes being taken off rides.”
Drake
DisneyFan
Thank you! I’m glad you pointed out the hypocrisy of PATF and the time period it’s set in! Finally someone else with some brain cells!

Roberta Bruce
You should Have NEVER Changed Disney . You have taken Dreams away from children world and believe WHAT THEY WANT TO BELIEVE . You have listened to Culture . You loose kids and families because of rides and turning it into an Adult World . You have taken out the best rides and nothing left . KIDS go only to see the Characters . You have forgotten Children’s Dreams from books they brought up with . Now you rise prices , have fights on parks and nothing being done . STOP Changing things . Bring BACK what Brings them to DISNEY WORLD.
Lauren
I am so over this cancel culture, whining, changing all rides that some may find “offensive” today. I understand Splash Mountain, but The Haunted Mansion? Pirates of the Caribbean? Get over it. I can’t anymore.
Chris
Disney execs are constantly trying to find something to do to justify their employment. Changing things is the easiest way to keep busy and appear productive and useful. It’s about keeping a paycheck. Reality. Find something to change and it will keep you busy for quite a long time. It’s like sweeping a clean floor for hours, but in Disney’s case it’s like sweeping a marble floor with acid and a wire brush.
MB
Not making fun of you, just out of curiosity how the heck do you plan to do that? Personally I’d rather see Disney burn to the ground just to start again
Wing
Those idiots really should have thought of that before they went the “PC” route. Now Disney is nothing more than a shell of its former self. Constantly catering to a culture that will never be pleased, no matter how many changes they make or how woke they get.
axt113
I guess they’ll just have to cry into their billions of dollars in profit
Walt
I am done with the Disney and I am a former cast member. If I am offended by all the politically correct changes they made are they changing them back – nope. Its the whiny woke cry bullies they respond to so they can up their corporate social Impact score. Environmentalism, social justice and political correctness gets shoved down throats of of guests. the final straw was the plan to retheme splash and their continual sexualization of kids. This company has lost its way. Chapek and the lot of them needs to go.
axt113
Oh noes, what will they ever do without your few dollars!?!?
Guess they’ll just have to settle for the other billions in profits they make
Marty Bee
Who can blame them really? It’s the smart business move like it or not. Disney didn’t invent wokeness but they can sure lose business from bad PR once someone pitches a fit over the “offensive” noose imagery featured in their attractions. Anything even potentially insensitive is now a liability, why leave yourself open to that if you don’t have to? All that matters is dollars and they think it’s better for business to be safe than to take a stand and risk the wrath of the woke mob. Just how things are now
Luis Rodríguez
Sometimes I thinks they make all this nonsense propositions in order to have us talking about it and not talking about how necessary is a 5th and even a 6th park.
In a while will no longer matter how much virtue signaling they want to portray because it won’t be a pleasant experience for anyone in the whole political spectrum.
Off course. Paycheck maybe thinking “Who cares? I can retire now”
That’s a good retheming idea! Let’s retheme Paycheck
Sam
Mark
Well said

We wants the Redhead!

Plutarch Heavensbee
Disney juat changed Snow White and the Seven Dwarves to Snow Brown and the Magical Creatures. Yes. People need to voice their concerns about PC culture.
Joe
Change the name of the ride to ‘Boy Scouts of the Caribbean’ already lol
Ken Brenner
Becky
Political correctness has been bastardized from its original meaning, which is to not do something to hurt anyone deliberately. When you know better, do better. Thanks for continually trying to improve, Disney parks.
