Chapek is all about retail and parkgoers spending more money. He’s corporate, profit driven, not creativity driven. He’s the absolute worst CEO Disney has ever had. Just look at what Chapek is responsible for – Galaxy’s Edge final version – it’s an outdoor mall, with 2 rides that barely run for the entirety of most days, a bar with overpriced drinks and horrible food. Now the Imagineers made it look incredible, but Chapek stripped the union actors, the dinner theater – and put them on the $6k -$20k 44 hour experience – the Galactic Starcruiser. He’s also responsible for the other outdoor mall: Avengers Campus – there’s food, but all in all, it’s another wallet grab. The only ride- is the Legoland Ninja Go ride/Webslingers – the lowest priced ride tech in the industry. Why there are still some out there ‘staying positive’ about the Galactic Starcruiser is beyond me. You can see from their own ads that it’s another Cheapek endeavor. The itineraries being published this week by registered guests are amateur. I doubt this hotel will remain open by fall, possibly earlier, but I’ll stay positive. 🙂

It’s short-term thinking. it’s doing “just enough” to get by. (Boeing went that route and look at them!) Creativity is barely left inside Disney and what remains sadly will soon be gone when they move Walt Disney Imaginneering to the much cheaper location in Florida. Some great talent will be lost forever (but they’ll be replaced by cheaper people). As bad as things are now, they will continue to get worse.

Sure a new group of people will come in and think ‘cool’, but this is not a core audience that repeatedly visits over the long haul. They’ll no doubt keep pulling in new people and they’ll likely spend a lot, but won’t be the ones that return annually or multiple times a year. It’s much smarter to get lower amounts of dollars from someone that visits multiple times per year ever year, versus “get all you can” from the one time visitor which is what they seem to be going for. Again, short term thinking.
