They are backing it because the bill makes sense, honestly this shouldn’t be taught during those grades. Really all of that should be taught at home and doesn’t belong in school at all, but especially in the first three years of school where there is a lot the kids have to learn in a very short amount of time to be successful in school.
Being inclusive and supporting this bill are not mutually exclusive.
Yes, well said. And Disney backs many Republican legislators because they often vote pro-business and pro-tourism legislation. It is impossible to choose a candidate who will ultimately vote the way you want on every bill. It is duplicitous to title this article the way the author or ITM leans on this issue.
They aren’t teaching sex, it’s basic family discussions. If a child has two moms or two dads that shouldn’t be a banned discussion. Are we going to ban anyone from talking about parents in school? It makes no sense.
Good, there is a lot of pressure on kids where pressure doesn’t need to be. Why are we pushing sexual preferences and choices on children so young? A 15 year old doesn’t even know what they are, let alone a 5 year old.
No one is pushing anything on them, and no one is trying to make a 5 year old choose a sexual preference. Why are people alway trying to make this about sex… This is about acknowledging that there a different kinds of families. No one is advocating that little kids should be taught about sex. It’s such a ridiculous argument and is only targeted at the LGBTQ+ community. The Florida government should be focusing on real issues to made up culture wars.
No… we… aren’t… Also are you saying that 15 year olds don’t have any romantic attraction? Because I can tell you I know who I loved by the time I was 13 or 14. And that’s considered LATE! Teaching gay history is not forcing gayness on people, telling gay students that they should feel comfortable is not forcing gayness. Being gay is NOT a choice, it is something that most people are born with. You can’t make someone gay, just like you can’t make someone straight. Have some nuance here, teaching LGBT history is no different than teaching other forms of history as it literally is American history.
The bill is very fair. Don’t talk about sexual identity through 3rd grade.
Parents not teachers are the ones who help the child through gender confusion
Actually no. Do u think queer kids dont realise which people have feelings for until high school or college? They do, just like any straight little boy knows he likes girls or vice versa. U dont understand what ur talking abt in regards to what the bill actually means
Okay then 3rd graders and below should now not be able to watch films where the princess marries the prince. All forms of straight romantic media must also be ripped away from these children. Because I guess we can’t discuss it until 4th grade… That’s how you sound. Having a conversation about sexuality is not pushing it on anyone. It’s about learning to accept others and potentially yourself. Stop sexualizing gayness, your homophobia is showing.
Good for them! It’s about time a corporation stands up to bully thugs who want to push sexuality on kids. I’m not always proud of the choices Disney makes, but I am one hundred percent behind this. Leave our kids alone. It is not the job of the public schools to teach values or sexuality.
We didn’t learn about sexuality or anything until at least 5th or 6th grade when I was growing up. It doesn’t make sense to talk to tiny kids about things like sexuality or gender. Are you going to teach them about AIDS or STDs? What about drug use? These are things that are meant for kids that are a bit more mature than those just getting into school. If they are confused let the parents handle it. I don’t like that my 8 year old came home confused because she said her classmates liked her and had a crush on her IN A SO CALLED CHRISTIAN SCHOOL! I had to tell her that she had nothing to be confused about that she was too young to focus on liking another human when she needs to focus on her education. Isn’t that why they are sent to school? Even when I was younger we weren’t focused on sexuality in 2nd grade. These are my own opinions not those of anyone else or any company.
K-12 Public education system needs to stick to core education subjects, not sexuality. Its a topic for households to discuss, not teachers. College however is open game. Don’t like it? Then don’t send your kids to public school in a conservative state.
This is typical corporate hypocrisy. Disney, or any other corporate entity for that matter, has no business involving themselves in politics. PERIOD. The only reason they do, is because they are simply expecting a return on their “investment” later on via political favors. As for this bill, it is nothing more than political pandering. They have simply come up with another solution to a problem that does not exist. When have you EVER heard of K through 3 (or even 6) teaching sex education? NEVER. This makes as much sense as proposing a law forbidding anyone from picking up burning coals with their bare hands or kicking a fire hydrant with their bare feet.
Disney can’t truly support LGBT kids if they are supporting discriminatory and prejudice lawmakers. It’s that’s simple. They are only looking out for their own wallet after all…
The bill is problematic for teachers and students. It’s not about sex – which should obviously not be taught to young children.
It’s about censorship and draining money from schools.
If a child has two moms, they can be punished for speaking about it.
If the same child asks a teacher why they have two moms, the teacher is prohibited from informing the child.
If a young girl expresses that she “feels more like a boy today”, the teacher now has to make a big fuss and report to the parents that their daughter is “transgender”.
If any of the above are violated, the parent can sue the school for a ridiculous amount of money, further draining school budgets.
Don’t ya’ll see how zany this is? Get politics out of school. Give children information to make their own educated decisions.
An environment where children are punished for asking questions and where teachers are censored from providing answers is not a learning environment.
Woah, the level of homophobia in this thread is so cringe. Learning about different types of families is not sexual. Quit forcing sexual idolization on LGBTQ+ youth, I don’t see that being done to straight folk…
Rethinking my upcoming trip to WDW after hearing this news. No biggie, I’ve got the OG park in my (liberal) state anyways.
First, it isn’t called “Don’t SayGay.” That is slanderous disinformation… shamefully displaying the spin put on the article. Disney is extremely inclusive. The “Bill” in question is about exposing any sexuality to 5 thru 7 year Olds, in the classroom.
Comments for Disney Backs Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” Bill Despite Preaching Inclusivity

I totally agree. Sex and sexuality does not belong in elementary school.

Ohhh, the hypocrisy. The next time anyone claims the company is so “woke” feel free to laugh in their face.

Read the bill. It’s not what the liberal media is making it out to be.
Alton
It’s exactly what “liberal” media is talking about. They are banning LGBTQ+ family discussions. This has nothing to do with sex.

At a min sexuality should not be discussed until High School. College preferred. Were are not talking sex ed here.

Yeah please stop talking to children about straight people (a sexual identity lol). Y’all’s comments are so biased…

Agreed this makes no sense to not support it no matter what your views are. Kids have no business learning about that topic.
