Gargantos is actually an entirely different pre-existing Marvel character altogether; a one-eyed octopus-like sea-monster that first appeared in 1969.

  2. Richard Bradley

So even if Gargantos wasn’t already a character, Marvel would have no issue using anything from Conan considering THEY PRINT CONAN COMICS. Conan was a Savage Avenger for crying out loud.

Do you not k ow how to use Google?

  3. Robbie

Disney owns Conan now though. He’s an Avenger in the comics. And Gargantos and Shuma Gorath are distinct characters who look the same in the comics. This is the laziest article I’ve seen in forever. Do some research.

Rebekah Barton, don’t feel bad about what these needs are saying. Their grammar is similar to that of a primary school student, so I wouldn’t take what they have to say too seriously. Just keep doing what you’re doing.

      What are needs? Grammatical error?

Who would possibly remember the name was originally in the Arnold film from 30 years ago.
Would the estate of the original person who coined the name really take marvel to court. Pathetic really

Though I don’t believe it’s truly a name, change, it bothers me a company as profitable as marvel will go,to such lengths to avoid paying the original creators.

Doctor Strange in the Multitude of Madness’ ORIGINAL release date was announced as May 7, 2021 at 2019 Comicon.

This makes me sick, I hope it is wrong! It makes no sense for marvel to change the name now when they’ve used it for decades without concern of copyright issues or infringement. Furthermore they have the rights to Conan to some degree, they print and write the comics also, so again it shouldn’t be an issue, then there’s the fact they already have a character with the name Gargantos which could come into play sometime in the future. But there is already a marvel character with that name so that doesn’t work either. Then the fact that marvel rakes in hundreds of millions from a single movie and it’s characters. I hope they wouldn’t be so cheap that they would rob fans of a character as they know it or not be willing to workout an agreement with the creators estate. It was bad enough when they short changed us with Fu Manchu in Shang Chi it would have been much better if they had hammered out a agreement on use of the name in their movies. It would have left open endless possibilities for the Fu Manchu and Mandarin characters now they’ve deprived us and their selves of any opportunities to witness these characters in the future and also their ability to profit from them, it was very short sighted of them.

WRONG!! Gargantos is an actual character from the sea whose tentacles were strong enough to split a car in half! Shuma Gorath is an ancient being with powers like reality manipulation, teleportation, shape shifting, and telekinesis! The internet was simply wrong!!

I don’t know if it was the site that gave the writer this project or she didn’t do her research properly. Marvel wouldn’t have any problems working with Conan, now I could be wrong and it is just comics but I don’t think it would be an issue because marvel is publishing Conan comics.

  11. Gargantos is a Namor villain. Maybe this movie will be an MCU introduction to Atlantis and the Sub-Mariner?

The author is mistaking trademarks and copyrights.
First, “Shuma-Gorath” is not copyrighted, as names are not generally copyrights. The stories and images associated with Shuma-Gorath may be copyrighted. Therefore, Marvel won’t run into a copyright battle if they name their character “Shuma-Gorath”.

Second, Microverse is a trademark owned by Hasbro. Therefore, Marvel would run into trademark issues not copyright issues.

    1. SPQR

This is the correct answer. The article completely hashes the legal issues.

  13. Billy

What a load of trash article, do your research this is literally the opposite of news, so incredibly unprofessional, no one changed the name this is a completely different character in marvel, yes people have already commented this but gotta keep commenting until yall apologize and take it down

  14. Vikki

Gargantos is literally a classic Marvel character who is a large green tentacle monster with a single eye. The Conan argument is ridiculous since Conan has been appearing in the main Marvel universe as recently as the last five years alongside his archnemesis. Please do some actual research instead of using a tweet as a legitimate source.

  15. I’ve already seen a few people say this, but yeah this article makes no sense. Marvel currently has the rights to Conan. Currently putting out new Conan comics while simultaneously having him in an Avengers comic. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Shuma Gorath show up in Savage Avengers in the near future.

    1. Volguus

He’s already been. Kulan Gath has been slowly devouring Shuma Gorath. Strange was forced to kill the ancient being, now sickly and necrotic from Kulan Gath taking his power.

  16. Can’t say one way or the other since I’m NOT OVERWHEMINGLY IN THE KNOW OF THE NAMES OF THE VILLIANS THAT IS 🤔🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤨😖🙄🤬👎👎..!!

Marvel doesn’t have the MOVIE rights to Shuma Gorath. This is not uncommon. They didn’t have the movie rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four as well as characters associated with them for decades. Yet, they were make comics and other mediums about them during that time. Rights to one medium doesn’t give you rights to others. This character looks nothing like Gargantos and looks just like Shuma Gorath. You guys have literally no idea what you are talking about.

  18. Paul

It is absolutely Shuma Gorath or I should say more accurately, an avatar of Shuma Gorath. Anyone claiming otherwise is wrong.
Just look at what Dr. Strange 2 is about and then realize what type of being Shuma Gorath is.

  19. Padraic devine

Funny that Conan was actually a Marvel comic character for a while

  20. This is disguisting.

  21. Zacharie

It literally looks exactly like Shuma—Gorath stop reaching
