but at least with the standby everyone has a chance to ride the ride If you choose to stand in the line. With the virtual cue once all the slots were gone, you were out of luck. Imagine coming to Disney on your once in a life vacation and not at least having a crack at the popular rides
I’ve just experienced Disney for the first time using this new Genie+ and Individual
lightning Lane systems.
It is a complete money grab. AMD getting rid of the virtual queue is So they can get more people to pay for those ILL reservations at at around $9 per person (that’s what the app prompted me today when I got my Remy’s virtual queue and it tried to upsell the ILL so I didn’t have to wait for my return time).
In talking with a CM I have learned that Disney now meters rides the following way:
Nominal operations they do 1 standby guest for every 4 Genie+ guests.
If the Lightning Lane is backing up they change that to 10 Lightning Lane guests for every 1 standby guest.
We experienced that 1/10 ratio firsthand on the Frozen ride at EPCOT a few days ago. The posted wait time was 65 minutes. At 90 minutes we were about 1/2 way through the standby lane. It took us over 2 hours to go through Frozen and the whole time we watched the LL moving so fast there was never any backup at all.
Great idea, let’s just close every business. “Risky behavior” is now every gathering a liberal is not attending themselves. Go stick your head in the sand, maybe that’ll prevent you from tripping on all those dead bodies your afraid of.
Joe, my son works at Disney World. He was vaccinated, but still got Delta, recovered after a week, and now he is better protected than the vaccine alone. Thousands of people work at Disney, and they provide joy for millions. The lockdowns have not been shown to prevent spread. But they have a 100% chance of causing poverty.
You really need to get your facts straight when it comes to lockdowns. There are multiple countries around the world who have miniscule infection rates compared to the US because they went into lockdown early on.
Excellent idea! While we’re at it, let’s close all the factories, power plants, mail, banking, and grocery stores too. Can’t be too careful with a virus that kills less children than diarrhea.
Annual Passholders (like myself) used to get an incredible deal when Fastpass was free to all. They could visit the parks for pennies on the dollar, and have almost the same experience as people paying full price. Lighting Lanes will remedy that.
Passholders that want a “good” experience will have a huge percentage bump in minimum per visit costs. Folks buying day tickets will also pay a more, but just a small percentage of the overall cost of their visit.
I got surveys from Disney and Universal recently that both asked if their respective companies valued Passholders. I’m not really sure why Disney even bothers to ask that question, when the answer is fairly obvious to most passholders, industry observers and (I’m sure) Disney management.
Good!! Let those terrible things go away and Never return. It is impossible to use and ensures that people without smartphones (such as elderly folks) will never get to experience the attraction. This is a good thing that this terrible idea is gone. Let it stay gone forever.
Agree we hated the virtual queues so frustrating everytime we have gone to Disney couldn’t get on ror when we finally got in it broke down bring back fast pass and maybe even give Seniors a discount
Good! The virtual queues stink. They should get rid of the lightning lanes and Genie Plus. Give everyone 2 fast passes per day that they make WHEN THEY ARE IN THE PARK. No 60 day in advance BS. You make your first fast pass and don’t get to make the 2nd one until you used the first one. That would cut down on the fast passes that were made “just because”.
That’s how it used to be when they had paper fast passes. They can’t make any money that way so it will never happen. Fast passes were gone before noon for all the good rides. Use single rider line before they are gone or they start charging for them also.
The whole reason they are doing this is because they want people to pay for their Genie plus. People just need to stop paying for this stupid service and that idiot Chapek needs to be fired for being such a horrible CEO
The changes to queue management make me MUCH less likely to visit Disney. The old fast pass system was equitable and didn’t nickel and dime customers (oh, guests). Genie is more complicated, leaves people in 2-4 hour standby lines if they don’t buy up. Not my idea of a vacation
People pay more than enough for a Disney Park ticket……Lighting Lane gouging by Disney is for the Elite Rich and screws everyone else. Leave it to Disney to keep putting the screws to people, but I guess as long as the parks are filled Disney will keep Sticking it to you.
Why does it not surprise me that Disney is forcing people to purchase a lightning pass?
Every time I read one of these articles I’m glad I got a refund on my Platinum pass last year. Universal and Sea World are such better values.
I was taught years ago there are two kinds of businesses; “Steady Nickel” and “Occasional Dime”. Disney has always been relatively expensive, but I never felt gouged. It was a slow and steady increase in price over time. They’ve now fallen into the “Occasional Dime” category for me because of the constant cash grabs.
They probably could have built a fifth gate with the extravagant executive bonuses they’ve paid out over the years. That would have gone a long way toward alleviating the long lines at the parks.
They need to bring back Fast Pass!! Genie + and LL are such a huge money grab. IT’s bad enough that for 1 day, 1 park hopper ticket for 2 people will run you close to $400 is ridiculous, and then add on top of that an additional $15 for Genie + and then on top of that another $9 per ride that offers LL individually is ridiculous! Seriously Disney you have become what once was the best place to visit and experience the entire Disney vacation the way it was meant to be spent to nothing more than a greedy money gouging grab. Do away with Genie + and LL and simply bring back Fast PAss which worked great. Why did you ever do away with Fast PAss in the first place? IT made it so you cold spend your day at the park and ride several attractions and enjoy your time there. Now it is to the point where you may get to ride possibly 2 rides all day because you are waiting in line for 3+ hours for a single ride. So you want us to spend $450 for 2 tickets with Genie + and LL just to ride 2 rides that last 2 mins each???? Please someone explain to me why Disney did away with Fast Pass!
I visited Hollywood Studios in December. I could only ride one ride while I was there. I will not be returning to any Disney park in the future. I concur LL is a money grab. The Disney that I grew up visiting no longer exist .
I’m glad they are eliminating all paid past pass ques. We (my son, his wife, and myself) are coming at the end of the month, and I have read nothing but bad stuff about them. It would seem you pay to stand in a long, long, long line. Why would we want to pay for that. Rather than go through that, we had decided to skip the attraction (more and more of them). It would appear to me that Disney is trying to squeeze every dollar out of their guests that they can. Doesn’t seem like something you would do to your “guest” or that Walt would be very happy about. Consequently, you are squeezing the ordaniary, average family from coming as they will no longer be able to afford it even with saving for several years. I’ve probably been 60 years, maybe more. If my son had not already planned this trip for me for Christmas, I would not have done it on my own as I’d already made the decision that I, along with 4 or 5 friends I usually invite to come along with, would not be back. And we probably will not be unless I start reading better stuff about families and their trips. DISNEY, GREED CAN KILL ANY BUSINESS!!!
They already lost my business. I was there over Christmas. Stood in line for HOURS as people went by me in 5 minutes. The employees even talked about it. They had goals is letting all of the online speed pass whatever people through first. I feel like I got robbed of 200 bucks a day.
Been going to WDW since 94 and it has gone from bad to worse. We were there for the 50th in October and there were no fast pass lines and we were able to get in the queue for Rattatoulie. It’s all about the $$$$$$$$$$. Go to no passes and let everyone wait. It truly was so smooth. The other way is to go back to getting the fast passes at the park when you get there. Only holding 2 fast passes at a time. We love Disney but truly see the writing on the wall for us.
Hope Disney ends virtual q forever. It’s frustrating for us to travel over 3000 miles only to not be able to ride the newest ride. Standby should always be an option. That way if it is a high enough priority, a person can ride.
We used both LL and genie plus during our recent visit. The LL worked okay, but never available for Rise of Resistance (maybe because resort guests bought them out through early access?)
Genie plus was a bust. We rode 3 rides on it for the whole day. It glitched twice on us where we had a confirmed reservation but as that time approached, our reservation disappeared. After it happened once, I screenshot the next one. It happened again. I showed the ride cast member our screenshot of the reservation and she said there’s nothing she could do if it isn’t in the system that she looks at to grant entry. She said to go to guest services, but that was across the park and likely would also be a wait, so we didn’t report it, but we won’t spend $ on Genie plus again.
Comments for Disney World Eliminates ALL Virtual Queues, Moves Back to Standby

Will they charge for the virtual queue when they bring them back? Just a thought. If another penny can be made Disney will find a way.
Marquita
Wondering if they bring back virtual queues when guardians of the galaxy and Tron opens. The waits for those coasters are gonna be insane.
Brian McDonough
It just opens up more lightening lane money spots for Disney to make more money.

Was there for 10 days and queue sold out at 7:01am
It was ridiculous! and no lightening lane or standby lane either!

Why is this place allowed to be open and encourage risky behavior which puts us all in jeopardy just so they can make money
