Why doesn’t everyone close EVERYTHING, turn off EVERYTHING and lock yourself in your home…see no one can get offended. Hello world , regardless what you do, someone will find fault or be offended.
There are no words I’m that song that are culturally insensitive. The song is about it being a wonderful day. Just it being in a movie that no one has watched since the 40’s because it wasn’t even a good movie let alone the cringey vibes about slavery, shouldn’t mean to chick it.
Let me put on my Doctorate in Business hat for a second. Disney has successfully employed a circular marketing strategy for years. Most of the time it works and there have been exceptions. This strategy means when releasing a product or service that the all units are aligned and on the same message. Due to the re-theme of Splash Mountain they are simply removing vestiges of the old tide that go across vertical channels. Keep trying to make hay out of nothing ITM.
On another note whether you like it or not Disney appeals to the demographic that spends the most. I am sure their focus groups have held out that certain rides need to be re-themed to their IP which are theirs and not paid for. It’s business which keeps them profitable. Those waxing poetic about the Confederacy and Southern post Civil War reconstruction are in the minority.
I’m with you. This cancel culture is ruining individualism. I am sick of things being “de-offensivied”. If something is too mean, let the market handle it. But, don’t tell me what I should be offended by. That’s offensive, 😉
OFPS… Enough with the “I’m offended by zippidy”… How many people have ACTUALLY SEEN “Song of the south”? That are “offended”?… And how many of them are “offended” because they have been TOLD it is offensive? Disney REALLY needs to stop this “everything is offensive it WE don’t like it… Therefore it must be banned!!!!!”.Has ANYONe ever listened to the positivity of the song?
Personally I love the song zipadee do da. It’s an up beat catchy tune, I have also seen song of the south, and don’t see anything wrong with it. Maybe I’m naive, but all I get from it is a fun story about a bear and a smart bug’s bunny like bunny. Personal opinion.
I agree 100% with the author. I’m excited that Disney is removing a ride based on African folk tales and replacing it with a beautiful European story. It’s heartening to see so many Disney Fans embrace European Folklore!!🥰🥰
Oh so you’re glad they’re removing the original inclusion African Folklore that was orally passed down by slaves? Further silencing them? Good to know.
WOW!!!
Here we go with the “its offensive”. Its called different view, different opinions..if we don’t have them the world does not work! Get over it it.
I doubt very seriously that’s the reason. That strikes me as this website’s own inference. I imagine the reason it was removed is related to their efforts to downplay the film itself, but a melody cannot be culturally offensive. That’s extremely irresponsible phrasing.
Disney has become a bunch of spineless pansies. There is literally NOTHING “culturally insensitive” about the song…how does a song about a WONDERFUL day and plenty of sunshine offend ANYONE?! People are too effing lazy to go out and find/watch the film for themselves instead of just regurgitating the argument that the film is “rAciSt aNd oFfEnSiVe” with no basis. It’s a damn shame that Disney is allowing the Twitter cry babies with their heads up their a**es to dictate what e remains in their parks. Wake the hell up Disney!!
Disney did wake the hell up. They’re “woke”. Go woke go broke. If everyone quits giving them their money, which they won’t, then you have no one to blame but yourself.
Well there goes the neighborhood again. Bye bye Brare Rabbit, Brare Fox & Uncle Remus 🥺🥺🥺I Loved the song “Zippity DoDa.” Who doesn’t is STUPID because it is ALL ABOUT HAVING A “GREAT DAY.”
Geeze if Team Disney keeps this up? A majority of their music catalogue will disappear (ie do you love those singing Siamese Cats in Lady and the Tramp? Me too! unfortunately, enough people are butt hurt by it that you won’t hear it!)
Seriously? I’m so glad I canceled my Oct trip. Uncle Remis sang the song. How is it offensive and to whom is it offensive. I’m very sD that my Happy place is gone but I’m glad to see it go down the tubes because of people that don’t even go to the parks. Hopefully one day it will return to Walts dream.
It’s time that all disney characters should be portrayed as black, so that everyone , so easily offended, will have nothing to cry about anymore. All black people should be allowed into everything free of charge, then we can watch as they still find ways to complain and claim that they are still oppressed victims.
It’s time that all disney characters should be portrayed as 👩🏿so that everyone , so easily offended, will have nothing to cry about anymore. All 👩🏿people should be allowed into everything free of charge, then we can watch as they still find ways to complain and claim that they are still oppressed victims.
Yes, by all means let’s remove the Oscar award winning song that has been a part of Disney’s history and success for almost 100 years and replace it with…. Nothing of consequence? Princess and the Frog was not an excellent movie, it was mediocre and was rushed to production. It spelled the death of Walt Disney Animation and pretty much ensured all future Disney films will be CGI. Song of the South is controversial only because a lot of people no longer understand the 19th century. Unfortunately, the 1960s are largely to blame. A decade where everything “Victorian” was seen as old and outdated and needing to be eradicated. Great job, you succeeded.
The main complaint about Song of the South is that it glosses over the horrors of Reconstruction with happy songs and grinning faces. It’s a children’s movie, it’s a MUSICAL. That’s what they do! If you wanted a grungy period drama about Reconstruction you don’t go to DISNEY. Princess and the Frog does exactly the same thing. Disney failed to include the harsh realities of 1920’s New Orleans.. Segregated restaurants, bathrooms, trains, water fountains.. Complete lack of civil rights. Next Disney will definitely have to eliminate all mentions to Chim Chimminy.. Most Victorian/Edwardian chimney sweeps were child laborers, working for almost nothing in appalling conditions and often falling to their deaths or living in flop houses where they were exposed to horrifying abuses.

There’s no “vibes about slavery” because it’s set in the reconstruction era after slavery has ended 🤦🏼♀️

I have. And I’ve seen the movie. And I can actually separate it from the ride. Imagine that.
