I used it recently and Genie+ was a nightmare. It was impossible book anything. From the ads I thought “Cool! I select everything I want to do on my visit and Genie+ will just try its best to book my whole day for me and get me all the LLs possible and arrange my visit”. Well no, it was super bad. You can only book every 2 hours or after using the booking. The app was not very intuitive to use. I prefer Universal’s Express system. Is it expensive? Yes. Does it work? Like a charm.
Also the magic kingdom is not as nice as it was. The parades are no longer there and the fireworks at closing time were sold separately, which I learnt of upon arrival. Fantasmic and Indiana jones were closed at Disney Hollywood Studios.
Used Genie+ at MK back in October. Wasn’t worth it. Could only book every 2 hours or as you used reservation. The app kept crashing and I had to keep rebooting it (in all fairness, this could be user error – I’m an anything smarter than the toaster type). I booked rides for one time and would look later to see the times had changed. One ride time change 4 times in an hour and half. It had us running back forth all over the Magic Kingdom. And how many rides did we get for our extra $51.00? 3! Yep 3. Most of the rides we ended up walking on fairly quickly (15 min or less) later in the day.
My opinion is Genie is a waste of time and money. Personally I think they should do away with the whole FastPass/Lightning Lane (line skipping) and everybody just wait the same. Several people I spoke with were AP and they were there all the time. The lines actually moved faster when there was no skipping.
Wake up and understand what the tech is suppose to do verses what it is actually doing. It is suppose to help you with what you want to do and help make the most of the day according to your own preferences.
Garbage app. Paid for Genie+ for 4 people ($60). The park was so packed that normal lines ranged from 45 minutes to 2+ hours (yes, really). So I thought genie+ would help.
Barely. Since you can only book once an hour AND you have to book out in advance, you end up wasting stretches of time & having to run across the park multiple times.
Huge scam & will never get it again. Would have ridden more rides if we just waited in the ridiculous lines. Magic Kingdom needs to lower their max capacity.
One of the most egregious money grabs Disney has pulled in awhile, and that’s saying something!
If you want to wake up at 7am on your vacation to TRY to get into one of the popular queues, then great.
You also can’t queue for anything else while you wait for your other ride to come up, even if it’s later in the day.
Its complicated, time consuming, EVERYONE is walking around like zombies staring at their phones and not paying attention (more than normal), and you ha e the pleasure of paying $15 dollars per day, per person.
Fast Pass worked great, but I guess Disney could pass up yet another revenue generator to make sure their obscenely compensated execs are taken care while laying off 28,000 hard working staff members.
We were passholders since 2005 and the rise is pass prices, parking, doing away with fastpass, the implementation of genie, and the fact that the trams didn’t run most of the year… We’re done. If it had just been 1 thing, I’m sure we would have adapted-but this is too much. I feel like Disney executives gave passholders the middle finger. They only care about money, not guest experience. No more passes for us. It was nice knowing you, Disneyland.. we had a good run, I’ll be mourning the loss of the happiest place on earth. It’s now the greediest place on earth.
I tried using Genie and Genie plus at Walt Disney World last week it was awful and left us exhausted! After using it the first day I decided it must have been user error so I did some research and decided to purchase G+ for one more day! Again it was awful and the attractions we most wanted to do were not available at the times we were near the specific location! The only option that ended up working out for us was the Lightning Ln., Individual ride purchases! Had I not purchased the lightning lanes we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish much at all! Genie and G+ had us running from one end of the park to another all day long!
He doesn’t tell us how many of the 18 were after he gave up on Genie. The real test would be one group sticking to Genie itinerary, and another group on the same day doing it their own way Then compare not only how many rides–but the comparative cost (non-Genie wins that one, I imagine.), and how much fun each method was.
I’ve been a longtime pass holder and as a mom, Genie+ makes you have to be glued to your phone sun up to sun down instead of enjoying vacation. At least with old fast passes you could have 3 planned per day in advance and not have to wake up at 7 am to find out if you were going to have to disappoint your kids or make their dreams come true that day. Lightning lanes are just a slot machine you have to keep pulling all day long and the times are late in the day which make park hopping difficult. We are so saddened but don’t think we will be renewing our annual passes after many many years.

18 rides sounds insanely good! We only averaged about 7 or 8 this summer at Disney World.

Wake up sheeple. You don’t need no stupid app on your phone to tell you what to do.
