No, do not add IPs to this attraction like this. Yes, Carousel of Progress needs and deserves some TLC, but not like this. Keep true to the original concept.
And yes, Diary of a Wimpy Kid could be a good fit in the parks, but make it a brand new attraction and make it high quality, there is no need to remove something, there is TONS of room.
PS How do we report the spam on the comments? There seems to be a lot of it lately.
Totally agreed as a kid of the late 1960s when it was new to the Anaheim park (I’m Southern California born raised) I love that though I also love the Kid series and own a few books and all the first three films with original cast. Plus Rex Allen as the father and, unusual for Disney Mel Blanc and cousin Orville and the others super memorable!! And the Sherman’s song too!!
Kinney is an idiot, the carousel of pregress shouldn’t be touched by wimpy kid at all. It’s one if the few rides walt had a hand in and was at one of the last world’s fairs, it is quite literally a historical land mark
No, hell no. Don’t you dare touch CoP! How could this person have the gall to even consider Messi g with a classic by the man himself. CoP is THE quintessential Disney attraction, and probably the last that holds a piece of Walt’s soul.
Carousel of Progress is a classic and should not be changed! Updates to the last scene are fine but so many of us have grown up with this and look forward to it as a fond memory of childhood and past Disney visits. Do something else with the Wimpy Kid and let Jeff Kinney keep his creative ideas in his books!
Oh please God no. I’m happy to see the comments are in agreement. Granted, this ride needs some updating and TLC, but I love it all the same. The song stays with me everyday and the characters and story should be treasured. I hope they trash this idea.
Keep your wimpy paws off COP. Yes it needs to be refreshed but keep it original. This was a Walt original and needs to be left out of any IP additions.
I fell in love with the Carousel of Progess when I first saw it at the World’s Fair in 1964 in New York City. Every time I visit the Magic Kingdom it is a must see attraction. Yes it needs to be updated with current technology, but the blue print must remain the same. There are 2 extra stages (there are 6 in total).
I am confused by the 6 stages that you mentioned. Are there some spaces in the carousel that are not used and we never see as the ride resets? Please explain.
I first saw this attraction at the New York World’s Fair. The fair gave me the desire to travel, especially to see Disneyland. When they changed it a number of years ago I was horrified. Walt personally had a hand in this and it should be at the park just as it is. Many of us love this because of Walt. Keep honoring him by keeping it the same. Maybe add some info about how he planned this.
The wheel of progress definitely needs some updates especially the last set. Though a a historical look at the American family is through the lens of a white, and well off family especially during the certain eras of our history. It would be interesting to have a more realistic portrayal but that would involve a lot heavy representations a lot of people do not want told or displayed especially in Disney where they go to get away from reality.
By the way the Wheel was a huge commercial Walt devised to show off gadgets by his sponsors through their evolution.
NO!!! Carousel of Progress is true to what Walt imagined & as 1 of the few left it needs to stay as it is!!! Maybe a refresh but true to what Walt Disney himself did!
Agree with all of the above!!! Updates sure as technology has changed BUT NO WIMPY KID!!! I love Carousel of Progress for what it is and the memories it brings.
Do NOT touch Carousel!!! This ride is classic Walt story telling and should be preserved! Who will remember what it was like to grow up in the 20th century, if not for this ride? “Wimpy” should get his own “kids” venue. Don’t force the program onto the rest of us!
Leave Walt’s legacy alone. I agree with updating the final scene as tech expands. But this is what Carousel of Progress is about, the ever expanding technology platform.
I would never visit it if it was changed to Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I love Carousel of Progress. It is one of the original rides that Walt created that has had very little upgrades.
I object! Leave the classics alone! The Carousel of Progress is one of the most magical attractions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. It deserves to be enjoyed in its original incarnation by millions of children for generations to come.
Hi.
NOOOOOOO, leave Carousel alone!
Also, leave Splash Mountain alone.
There’s nothing wrong with either, and they are classic GOOD Disney.
Another Woke idea…
What silliness is this? Leave something alone that Walt created but true to form …. Disney will wind up ignoring and do it anyway. Look what Disney did to B’lou Crabbe and Shadow tossing the Highly prized duo at Hilton head island – and Adventurers Club. – gone. Plowing every thing over…..I just can’t with Disney anymore…..
No, that is a terrible idea!! We have visited Disney Parks since 1958 and have loved CoP since it arrived at Disneyland and ride it every visit, now at WDW. We love the memories it invokes and the fun song. I think the updates to the last scene are enough to keep it relevant. Keep Walt’s originals. Rut
Shove into the space that used to be Alien Encounters.
I do hear that a few years from now there will be an empty building right outside Studios. Lots of weird decorations, no windows, and odd architecture, but it shouldn’t be impossible to shoehorn the IP into it; the one they’re putting in it now doesn’t fit, either.
I am confused by the 6 stages that you mentioned. Are there some spaces in the carousel that are not used and we never see as the ride resets? Please explain.

I agree. Carousel of Progress is a classic. You don’t replace classics!

I agree with you 100%

I agree with you 110%. In Tomorrowland, NO Wimpy Kid. I, too, saw it at the World’s Fair. It’s Walt’s jewel!

This is a horrific idea! Carousel of Progress is literally my favorite thing to see. I can not imagine going to Disney without it!

What the heck. How could anyone come up with such a stupid idea. COP is a classic and should not be changed, ever.

It’s all about the current “wokenings” under Bob Paycheck’s reign. He will continue to ruin what was once Disney.

No. Carousel of Progress is an iconic ride that many of remember as children. There has been enough of re-imagining of classic Disney attractions.
Phoebe L Ho
Please tell me this is a sick tasteless joke.
This is a horrible idea. Is nothing sacred??!! Can we have even one attraction (a classic one to boot) untouched by IP?
This ride needs the final scene updated, yes. But that’s it. And it must be duplicated for the West Coast. Other than that— leave it ALONE.
Jerry
