If they are going to rebrand it. I think that a Pocahontas theme ride goes more with the current ascetic of the ride than Princess and the Frog. Meeko being substituted in for Br’er Rabbit would be easy. Also creating a visually stunning Grandmother Willow would be awesome. Just a thought.
Stupid… period. This was a staple. So, after 130 years, it’s suddenly racist. Anyone do actual history on the story. Here’s a little –
After originating in African-American oral tales, Brer Rabbit became one of the main characters in the Uncle Remus books, written in the 1880s and 1890s by Southern journalist Joel Chandler Harris. Yep, so racist. (Yes I’m of color)
I also thought it would be a great Pocahontas ride! Disappointed it the ride is going to change, and I agree with Henry.
Just something to note, when at the park notice all of the different kinds of ethnic groups and people of color in line. It doesn’t appear that everyone of color is offended by this ride. (I’m also a person of color)
I travelled with my kids to give a last look to this amazing attraction before this change. This is a major mistake and this attraction was the only reason tlmy kids (12 and 15) are still interested in Magic Kingdon over Universal parks (their favourite attraction, ever). Its over for us, but for smaller kids fans of the “princess and the frog movie” this may make sense.
Song of the South is NOT racist. I wish people would do a little research before they ‘brand’ something as racist. This whole ‘racist’ thing is way out of hand! Leave Splash Mountain as it is and if people are ‘offended’ by it then all they have to do is just walk right on by it and ride Big Thunder Mountain. Assuming of course, they don’t consider thunder to be racist.
It literally paints enslaved people as happy to go out and work in the fields and has a song about them being miserable and directionless of they were free. But sure, Song of the South isn’t racist. Okay.
I’ve seen the movie. The movie takes place after the American Civil War & abolition of slavery. There are no slaves in the movie. The cast defended the film. The movie is about Uncle Remus telling Br’er Rabbit tales to kids. Uncle Remus is viewed as a hero.

Not racist.. Disney is too woke for it’s own good. Keep rebranding everything and people will stop going… losing the original magic at a prodigious rate. Wake up and smell the wokeness.
As an African American I understand the origin of Uncle Remus, I appreciate and applaud his wisdom and optimism under such a harsh, brutal system of oppression and exploration… nonetheless the movie was opposed upon its initial release by Black organizations because it paints a picture of human bondage as a state of happiness, content, and satisfaction, it marginalizes and minimizes the savagery of a slave system. Additionally, it’s clear that the change of theme ignited the Neo-Confederates and those who are like to have Robert E Lee statues erected in Harlem… just to add insult to injury…and please note American Natives might protest Pocahontas and any “White Washing” of her story… sorry there are consequences, repercussions for colonialism and imperialism, genocide and human bondage…
I totally feel bad for you. There no place for hate but you seem totally unprepared for life…here’s a life tip, try Splash Mountain, you might actually crack a smile and come out from under that grey cloud…not trying to offend grey clouds btw so please don’t judge me
Hi. There is no reason to change Splash Mountain. It is a WDW favorite. Until May, 2020 – no one said a thing about it.
How can animals be racist? I’ve ridden it many times and I still can’t imagine why the Woke crowd doesn’t like it. I honestly think they are just about pushing their other social agendas on the vast majority.
Also, EVERY comment I’ve seen in this site and on YouTube, 95%+ of comments feel as I do.
So, it is definitely not a majority feeling to make the change.
Disney had better be careful in making unnecessary changes to successful rides.
I’ve never seen such a society where two hairs on a dog’s tail wag the tail.
A very sad time…

Is this Disneyland or Walt Disney World? It references WDW at the top of the article but DL through the entire article.

Ours out in D-land needs some help. I could see it back in July. When I go in December, I’ll do this, just in case…… 😨

Concur Henry. How can animals be racist???
Another example of two hairs on the tail of a dog wagging the dog. Wokeism at it’s worst

Am I excited about the change? No. It’s stupid.
Sharon
Totally agree. The ride is not in anyway racist and it is perfect as it is!!!
Ken Brenner
I agree with Anna and Sharon. There is nothing racist about the ride – nothing…
Pure woke stupid
Rick
Disney has already confirmed that this has nothing to do with the retheme. It’s just scheduled maintenance and repairs.
Wokeville
Refurbish = wreck thanks to woke losers who see racism everywhere they look. Oh noooooz – the Briar Patch is racist!
Joseph Goodman
Hopefully the Splash Mountain re theme will be canceled and we won’t have to hear about it anymore.
Ken Brenner
Yes Joseph – it is plain silly to call this ride racist.
But – woke makes no sense either.
M
There’s nothing wrong with Splash Mountain. Leave it alone.
Sharon
Agree! Leave it alone!
Ken Brenner
Concur!

The ride is about animals. How could it be racist? It wasn’t until May, 2020 when the woke crowd got in action. Pitiful…
