For a lot of us, staying at any disney resort/on-site is quite a budget stretch and treat. So to act like only those spending top dollar deserve perks is absolute nonsense. Its not in the spirit of Disney to penny squeeze this hard and its absolutely heart breaking. We just made a reservation at a value resort (the only way we can afford to go) after doing so 5 years ago and reminiscing about all the cool perks and how lovely it was to feel like we were just as important as all the other guests (limited free fast passes, early admission/ extra magic hours, the shuttle from the airport) and now that is all gone. The all-inclusive ‘magic’ is just an open hand waiting for you to figure out how to pay extra (on top of increasing resort fees) to make an experience like your family recalls from last trip. Abhorrent.
Agree 1000%!! Also agree with the post below. Giving perks to non Disney Hotels and not Value Hotels is just wrong. Just because they think they will spend more money in the parks then the Value Hotel crowd. You save for years to go on a Disney vacation and they are taking away the things that made it special.
Totally agree with above post how horrible Disney is now treating their resort guests. To allow Swan & Dolphin guest over other resorts is a real slap in the face. I stay at the campground but have also stayed at the Swan and I pay more at the campground for their top tier site than we paid for a suite at the Swan. It makes it difficult to justify staying on property anymore. I have 2 more trips already booked but if they keep this policy in 2022 & beyond will consider other places to stay. We’re also annual passholders and definetly not getting same perks as before either!
Another example of cheap-skate Chapek going after whales and leaving us regular folks in the lurch. Prices are rising and the offerings are getting meager. I hate to say that I’m done with WDW unless this nickel-and-diming stops.
Such a ridiculous statement “Disney caters to the rich”. When I was in my mid 20s I saved and saved and fulfilled a dream of staying at the Grand Floridian. I earned any extra perks that went with the price I chose to pay. And people that do pay 3 to 4 times what people pay while staying in an All Star should get something extra for that. The vast majority of Disney’s 30,000 rooms are value and moderate resort rooms. That’s not exactly catering to the rich. People from many different levels of wealth can and do enjoy exceptional vacations at WDW.
As a yearly attendee who always stays at the Dolphin, I’m thankful they have kept allowing us to take advantage of the extra hours.
But, I also sympathize with all who are unhappy about it for the resorts not on the list.
To me, if they stay at a hotel in the park, they should have the same rights – period!
But – look at the poor leadership Disney now has and all the horrible things they are doing (ex: Epcot changes, Splash Mountain, Harmonious, etc.).
Not sure how much longer I will be a dedicated, yearly attendee.
Very sad…
I’ve been a huge fan of Walt Disney World since the beginning of its existance. For them to abandon everything that made them the #1 tourist destination is saddening. We will be going this December to celebrate the holidays (since we have never seen the Christmas decorations in person) and the 50th anniversary but this will probably be our last trip for sometime as we’re not necessarily close to the proposed “magic”. Being far away from Orlando, our trips are limited but we could always find a way. Now, my family and I have contemplated just doing Universal since they still have perks worth the cost. Never thought I would see the day where Universal seemed more appealing than WDW.
Disney’s deluxe resorts now compete with the likes of the Four Seasons and the Waldorf that sit on or near their property and parks. Disney is using the one really good thing they have to compete, exclusive access to the parks. If you choose to pay a quarter per night than those paying $500-$1000 more per night you can’t expect the same benefits. People can make the decision to save more and wait longer if they want to stay in a deluxe resort. They can also choose to do a split stay by switching to a deluxe on a night with EMHs. Really people, if you’re there for a week, you may get 5-6 extra magic hours. Quite frankly the old way they did EMHs was getting ridiculous. The Parks were packed. Now it is a special perk for shelling out more money.

This seems unfair to us that can not afford the higher resorts. Why can it be across board maybe on different nights or something

Horrible how Disney caters to the rich!
