No, I do not like the reservation system. I don’t like any of the requirements that take away spontaneity. The Lightning Pass system needs to be burned with fire. Maybe from space. Do not bring back FastPass. I don’t like how this creates classes of users. Even if free, it separates us into the ones that know best how to take advantage of the system, and the rest of us. A trip to Disney should not require so much planning. It ruins the experience.
As I read in another recent article, the reservation system now takes the spontaneity out of a Disney trip. My family, and I, would just go to the parks when we’d visit Florida. We’d get up in the morning, and right there decide if we’re going to go, or not.
With the system, what if you have to cancel last minute? What hurdles would one have to jump over, to cancel/refund the tickets?
Add the prices to enter a park, on top of the park pass system, and it becomes more of a question to how many guests are they willing to lose?
Chapek really doesn’t understand or get it. The majority of people who go to Disney want spontaneity. Planning is out of control and takes away from the fun of it all, IMHO.
I find the reservation system to be a real pain..you say it controls the crowds but in my opinion the crowds are right back to before the pandemic. So much for crowd control. Let us go back to the way it was. I think the majority of people like the spontaneity to decide to go whenever they feel like it.
Not a fan of the genie + either. Just another way to get more money. Never did the maxpass and won’t do this one either.
“[Our reservation system] gives us the ability now to really on a real-time basis direct people, ensure that we have the right mix of guests in the park, and control the demand in ways that frankly we’ve never been able to do.”
The TLDR,
“It allows us to micromanage our resources to squeeze every last $ we can out of our guests.”
EVERY LARGE CORPORATION keeps making the same mistakes, micromanage every details and every decision based on collected data that’s mashed and collated to get the “insights” into whatever they are looking for to support their already made decision. Then later they find out the costs of all that data gathering and processing (in lieu of learning their customer base wants and just providing those wants) becomes way way WAY more expensive than they ever expected and the customer falloff becomes non recoverable and they suddenly don’t know what to do. They are so risk adverse that they have to have data backing up every decision and even then decisions won’t get made except by group concensus vs leadership. Then they continue their spiral downward.

Funny how other parks dropped reservations as soon as possible, guess they didn’t see the same benefits.
