I think it’s mostly school related. This happens during the school year at various times …just NOT on school breaks. So this is why parents pull their kids from school to go on vacations early. It avoid the crowds and can be cheaper.
Amen. I was going to say this. We went in May right before school ended and there were still mask mandates. NOBODY was complaining and everybody had masks on at Disney and at SeaWorld. This is typically when things start to slow at Disney. Watch the crowd around Labor Day. Then, it will trickle again until October.
BS. Florida ranks below 30 with covid related anything. Children do not need to be vaccinated; in fact in the hospital from covid19 got it from the vaccine.
Of course it’s from Florida schools and others going back to school. Most parents or college students don’t like to miss the first few weeks of school and activities. Low crowds aren’t due to the virus as they were packed just 2 weeks ago.
Agree with comments on schools. Also usually you theres lots of UK visitors as still summer holidays in UK but with travel restrictions they can’t travel……
It’s definitely because school started in state and in the south in general. I was an annual pass holder when I lived there and low wait times are very normal during this time of year. City walk being totally empty is a bit weird though
Between the Coronavirus all around United States and Kids being back to School Attendance is down in every Park. The Photos that you are looking at are Fakes if they wasn’t then you would see People Walking around in Universal Park. Fake Photos
I was there Wed-Sunday last week and it was very busy. It never looked like this and we were there from before the early entry hour at 8am and we’ll into the evening. I guess it could have changed this drastically in one day, but I don’t find it likely.
As with the other comments I imagine it’s do with domestic schools going back.
Have to remember that international guests (such as myself – UK) are unable to visit, which I imagine make up a huge amount of the usual numbers at these times of year.
Was there monday 8/23 velocicoaster was 25 minutes, HP Flight was 15 min., and pretty much everything was walk on or 15-20 min at best. Had a great time. Went back Tuesday 8/24 and it was the same.
Crowds were not there but it certainly wasn’t empty. It was calm and nice.
Disney at Epcot wasn’t empty either. It was however extremely low wait times on everything. Soarin on Sunday was 10 min wait.
Im local and go often, but this is more of kids just back in school and no foreign tourists. Kinda nice for the locals tho!
I call BS. I was at Universal last week. It was crowded. During the week Hagrid’s Broomstick ride had a wait time of well over an hour and that was when the heat index was at 108.
Wrong! We were there 1st week of August, it was very crowded. Nothing to do with vaccine as a lit of people were there. We are unvaxxed and stayed safe, not even a sniffle. We did universal and 2 days at SeaWorld. Wore our masks and we’re fine.
Could be the fact that schools started? Not that unusual around this time, summer ended and kids are back to school. Obviously the parks are going to be less crowded.
most schools have been in for two weeks, traffic almost disappeared the day school started going into Orlando. everyone that could was going to the parks and now everyone is in school now.
This is such a propangnda post that is so off the wall in scaring people that it is completely untrue. I have photos that show otherwise because I was just there and there are crowds! I will say it is not crowded, but quit scaring people and thinking it is deserted when it is far from that.
I would love to know when these photos have been taken. We have been to the park the last 3 weeks and it wasn’t that died. Show what the park really looks like.
I was just there, I checked out on the 21st which was Saturday morning. My daughter and I went early to City walk to pick up Voodoo donuts before our drive back home and I can assure you that the crowds were huge coming into the park the weekend before school started. It was hot, muggy and yes everyone was maskless. This is school driven NOT Covid fear…. ugh!
This is not an accurate post. Was just there this last weekend and they were packed. This makes me really angry that you wrote an article lying to the public. The wait times were 50 minutes and above. Rides that require “reservations” were completely booked. This article needs to be deleted and the writer should be blocked from creating more fake articles as this one you should really be ashamed of this.
This article is bogus. These pictures were provably taken after park closed. Hahaha. I was just there the last two days. There isn’t a ton of people but certainly isn’t empty. Wait times ranged from 10-45 min
Most definitely school related. Happens every year. Middle of August slows down. Then HHN starts and we’re back at it. Days will be kinda slower but Horror nights usually busy. We TMs like this relaxed time. We can ‘breathe’ for a bit.
I agree. I was there last week from 8/17 to 8/20. Got there early before park opened to the public so there was very little wait time then. As the day progressed wait times increased. Every day that i eas there citywalk was packed.
This blog post is pretty much useless without a photo of Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley. We were there three weeks ago and yes, certain parts of the park looked empty, but other parts you could barely squeeze in more people if you wanted to.
We just left there Sunday after a 5 day visit. Tuesday/Wednesday were slow but the rest of the week/weekend were crazy busy with waits for Velocicoaster and Haggrids between 60 and 95 min. So, this article doesn’t line up with what I just saw personally.
The author of the article is virtue signaling by trying to impose her pro-slavery-mask-wearing views… 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️Such utter nonsense! I’m glad the majority of the commenters see through her BS.
Between the Coronavirus all around United States and Kids being back to School Attendance is down in every Park. The Photos that you are looking at are Fakes if they wasn’t then you would see People Walking around in Universal Park. Fake Photos
Most might be school starting and lack of international travelers, but I know two people canceled their trips to Disney World due to covid rising in Florida.
I’ll post pics while I’m there in Oct 2021 for HHN. I am willing to bet there will NOT be any kind of shortage. I could only wish to get in the haunted houses and rides quickly. Ha ha Glad people are waking up to the BS and refuse to live in fear.
Attendance always drops this time of year schools around the area start up and families that travel already have for the summer and they are getting ready for their schools to start
We attended last week for the first time in +20 years. I booked at a hotel on Property for the Fast Passes, but it was hardly needed. Perhaps later in the afternoon, but at that point we had already been on most everything. I’m sure it’s not purely Covid, but I will say we were 50/50 on cancelling our trip due to the Delta varient.
The parks are closing early for after hours events. Why go when you have to leave early? I have a UOP and usually go on weekdays after work. Now I’d only get about two hours in the parks. Maybe next time you guys write an article about the crowds you’ll check the park hours first. 😉
I was at Universal from Tuesday until Sunday of last week. The crowds were not big but, plenty of people. A lot of the rides were breaking down during our stay. Rockit broke twice when we tried to ride it but was fixed and working fine later in the day. Velocicoaster was late opening 1 day along with a couple other rides but in the end we got to ride everything we wanted to.
I don’t care if this is because school started or not. I’m not going to visit the parks again until covid is under control. I live here and there’s no rush. Too many irresponsible people out there and not enough safety measures. Disney had good precautions at one point, I went during the spring but, Universal is too slack for me.
Then you will stay home forever as covid, like the flu, will be here forever.
This virus, regardless of the variant, has an 85% chance you will never get it, and if you do, a 97% recovery rate. Covid has proven therapies. No mask no vaccine is needed.
We have always had a decrease in guest at this time of the year because children are back in school … then we would increase at USOF & Disney because of their Halloween Events !!!
It’s not because of Covid or Delta …
Comments for Universal Crowds Disappear as Wait Times Plummet
Dpbasser
It could be due to all schools now being back in session today. That would be my guess before anything Covid related.
Michael Krauser
What about SeaWorld and Busch Gardens?
A.Watson
Back to school in the South and Colleges.
B
Was there in June & while I wasn’t there for the rides as we had our 16 month old with us, the park was pretty crowded.
Sharon King
This is usually the time we are there, but with UK tourists and europeanss not allowed in, I think that is an issue too

I’LL BE RIGHT THERE! Thanks for letting me know, I’m prepared to go on a moment’s notice once crowds lessened.
