I don’t get the point of this article. We always knew that Vader was a person. So seeing his eyes is creepy, but can hardly be called horrific, much less most horrific. There are many more horrific moments than that. A few that come to mind:
Luke finding his aunt & uncle dead.
Han being frozen in carbomite.
Vader cutting Luke’s hand off.
Leia about to be tortured on the Death Star.
Palpatine almost killing Luke with Force energy.
Etc., etc., etc.
Vader’s eyes shouldn’t even make the list.
This was far, FAR from “the single most horrifying moment in ‘Star Wars'”! Ben Kenobi being struck down to absolute nothingness or the trash compactor scenes are by far the competitors for the most horrifying scene! I don’t see how anyone could have missed seeing Vader’s eyes lighting up during the blaster fire, I was barely seven years old when I saw Star Wars in the theater & knowing that Vader was a horribly injured human being kept alive by his armor & sheer “force” of will & Sith hatred, I saw his eyes lighting up as an absolute proof that he was still a man inside his terrifying armored visage! And those human eyes flaring in red lighting showed what a hate-consumed, driven by absolute evil man the monsterous Vader truly was with or without his black, life-supporting armor. In fact, even though the shot was an accident I’m quite certain it was not cut because Lucas felt a chill & said, “That was awesome! I couldn’t have planned that revelation of the man inside his monster any better if I had tried to!” Yes, it was an impactful, chilling scene but horrifying it was not!
