I am torn. For me we went opening night and was shocked only 10 people were in the theatre. But then with the rise in cases, many are opting to see this at home. We have gone to the theater 2 weeks later, and still the same. We have seen other movies, still the same. I don’t think many want to go to the movies. Or in some cases, can’t. So I can not agree she would have earned that amount if it was only in theaters. Every film on HBO Max not owned by Disney is releasing the same way. If she is earning ANYTHING from the streaming, I can not agree with her on this. If she is earning nothing at all and her contract was AFTER covid put everything to a halt, then she had bad negotiations done. If BEFORE, everyone is losing a bit from the director, production companies to actors since it could not have been predicted. This will be a lose for EVERY Movie made that has been on hold or being released this year. Next year, I will assume the streaming to end. But to keep fans safe and allow them access to the film, they were correct to release it. If DISNEY gave her nothing from streaming services, maybe they could have but with everyone hurting, it should not be expected. I few the new streaming like opening at theaters but this should be negotiable at time of contract right now for all movies made after pandemic. You couldn’t have predicted the pandemic nor can you say your movie lost out in 50 million. That is based on pre-pandemic not current day movie profits. Not one movie has just been theater and I probably would have issues with that, considering everything going on at the moment. Hold onto the marvel movies until 2022 if they are going to be upset. Makes some of us who are fans maybe not watch them if they do this but hopefully they can come to peaceful agreement.
Don’t let them move it into arbitration, make the information as public as possible. If it was in her contract to not do streaming at the same time as theaters, that is the end of it unless Disney negotiated something different before doing what they did.
