Tom Holland has made spider man his. Anyone else just feels WRONG. HE BRINGS A Perspective we have never seen in spider man. Buy Sony. Spider man with Tom is a worthy investment.
Sometimes an actor isn’t very good as a voice actor. It requires two very different sets of skills. Maybe Tom Holland was busy. It doesn’t matter. He’s playing him in the movie and I don’t care that he’s not doing the voice for the cartoon.
No Spidey has been better that Tom loved Toby hated Andrew and think Tom is the closest to the comics. when I first saw him on screen my husband looked at me and we both said Now that’s Stan’s Spiderman .
Real reason: Disney doesn’t want to waste that much money on a animated series. Does What If even count as a real mcu show if their actors don’t even portray them? And its not even a Classic Loki situation, since this show is billed as the stars reprising their roles
Why does this even matter?
The version of him in the animated show clearly looks older, and doesn’t resemble Tom’s version in any way. It’s literally a show about alternative versions of characters and situations. Move on? :/
The actors still working with Marvel/Disney weren’t approached because the cartoon production couldn’t afford them the same as with any Marvel animated movies or shows made since those same actors started playing their characters like Thor, Hulk, Spider-Man, etc.
When I first saw the list of Marvel TV shows coming to the then upcoming Disney+ service, I thought the What If series had the most potential and the best shot at a long run while staying fresh. But I don’t remember hearing at the time that it was animated. I was too busy daydreaming about a possible anthology style show that had the same level of star power as Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt had in their day.
If they had put the money and effort into it they could have made the series a big deal and instead it wound up a hopefully at least mildly interesting cartoon which automatically means a limited niche audience, so there’s no surprise that big name (read expensive) actors aren’t going to be taking part.
Ok hear me out what about drake bell from the animated series? I thought he did amazingly well had some great zingers and was great at being serious as well felt like the spiderman that was written especially the episode vs Deadpool
Oh my gosh! How about just a little consistency here! I disconnect from the character every time there is a casting change! I love Marvel but if it gets too frustrating, I’m just going to move my loyalty to the most consistent franchise. I’m so over it.
I know you are not saying that due to inconsistencies at Marvel you plan on enjoying the DCEU instead right? I mean, the DCEU can not even make 3 movies without major contradictions to their previous movies. Wonder woman, in BVS, was this superhero who, outside of the picture from WW1, has remained completely in the shadows, but then we see in WW1984 her fighting inside the White House and then saving people in a very crowded mall and the list goes on an on. The DCEU is the most disconjointed “heroverse” imaginable.
Mark Hamill would be a horrible live action Joker at DC but for cartoons and video games I wouldn’t accept any other voice. So, it’s all relative.
Disney needs money, lots of money, to get the Spider-Man IP rights back from Sony. Probably more money than they denied Scarlet Johansson. Probably even more movie than their own X-Men startup will bring in. Sony has them over a barrel and know it.

The same was said for previous actors playing the role, all of them credible in the context of their projects.
Dr. Gonzo
Nah. Garfield was horrible and definitely not a good choice for Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
I did enjoy that version’s Lizard, though.

Wouldn’t “Captain Carter” actually be “Captain (United) Kingdom “?
Jaja
Perhaps? There IS a Captain Britain in Marvel.

Not in the slightest. The animation is horrendous and killed any hope I had of enjoying the series. There was nothing left to die 🤣

Loved Tobey, love Tom even more. Both made me love the character even more.

I’m always disappointed when Tom Holland isn’t Spidey. Period. The end.
