Not worth this at all. Honestly, for all you pay for flights, car, a room on property and food, this is ridiculous and elitist to say the least.
Disney has fallen down in quality the last few years, pre pandemic.
Witness the burnt out bulbs on the Grand Floridian and throughout the parks, faded paint on signs and figures, not to mention the absolutely bland color palette of all their rooms and immensely scaled back theming in those rooms.
They are way out of line from Walt’s vision of a place a Parent can take their kids for a good time.
Shame on Disney.
I agree. Shame on Disney. !!!!! Walt would never approve
It is unconsciousable For Disney to charge for this service!!!
Disney is getting to not be a happy place
I agree we are paying so much for Disney hotels ,the parks food while we are there and flights. Why is Disney making us pay .ore for fast pass that will make people not want to go to Disney. Who can afford it. I didn’t mind making reservation for fast pass 3 months in advanced
If it’s $15/person per day, I am going to have to skip it. I need that money for transportation to and from the airport. Maybe if enough people say, “no”, Disney may drop the idea of charging for fast pass.
I don’t have kids so to pay for fast pass just for my husband and myself I don’t have a problem. I’m more annoyed that I still have to pay $20 bucks a day to park at a Disney resort for a room that doesn’t even have a microwave.
We are a family of 5 and live local. We 💯will never pay for this. Cannot afford it on top of what ticket prices cost, food etc…
There’s too much $ involved. Bring back the magic Disney.
I just don’t understand why Disney is ridiculous for doing this when all of the other parks (Dollywood, Universal, Busch Gardens etc) have been doing this for a long time. And at $15/day, that is actually very cheap compared to the other parks; Universal’s “Express Pass” can run over $100/person on top of the ticket price during peak season yet no one have ever complained about the other parks doing it. 🤷
I agree. Disney was no doubt the last theme park company to not charge people to skip lines, it’s a tragedy to see yet a new change to an industry. But only for the worst
Make Disney lose money, they won’t listen to anything else other than losing money.
I like the original Disney app, Genie does nothing new except make you pay for rides. You may as well go to Universal, they’ve always nickle and dined you at every turn!
And they’re making you pay for Magic Bands which are WAY more convenient than having to use your cell phone for everything. Keep your old Magic Bands and reuse them or ask for the old plastic cards. Genie is a rip off! Stay out of the LL= Loser Lane.
Please Disney, don’t do this. I planned on bringing my whole family ( there will be 9 of us). I can’t afford to pay an extra $135 a day. My grandchildren are going to be so disappointed. Please, please, please don’t do this
I misread their policy, too. They are surcharging for the best rides on top of this. Disneyland Paris charges up to $18 per ride per person. WDW has added a similar program, and a DVC member family who went there last week told my brother they spent several hundred dollars extra per day for their family of 5 on Genie. Up until now, I agreed that Universal was ridiculous, but this, if true, is much worse.
Well, should I come visit Florida in the future for a 2 week holiday from the UK I’ll just stand in the main line for a few hours, a lot of the time you miss out on a lot of interactive fun by going down the FastPass route. When my brother and I went in 2016 and we went to Hollywood Studios we noticed people made a quick beeline to Toy Story Midway Mania and the line was HUGE in both the normal and FastPass, we waited until later on in the day and got in the normal line and had more fun than in the FastPass and wasn’t any quicker really. For a perk that’s been included in your entry to now be a paid extra, nah, I’ll just go the cheaper normal line route which will actually fill more time than getting everything done quickly so limited on what else to do.

You can dress up a pig and put lipstick on it… but it’s still a pig. Basically this is a price hike. We all know that time is of the essence in the parks, which is why extra magic hours are so important. That’s why I stay at the All Star resorts. Now because those hotels are the red haired step children resorts, we won’t be able to go to Extra Magic Hours, because they are only for the expensive resorts.
This makes me want to stay off property and have a better room for the same price. As for this Genie stuff, it’s a way for them to control crowd flow and herd us where they want us.
I’m quickly becoming a not Disney World fan.
This is just another example of pure Corporate Greed and Walt Disney is turning over in his grave to see how these new corprate execs are destroying his company !!
We have a family of 13 going in 2022…. I am absolutely feeling mixed emotions… from sadness to beyond furious. This will be our last whole family trip. Grandkids will soon be off in all directions and none will all have the same times off from school and sports. For the amount of money we paid for plane tickets, to park tickets, to hotel expenses, to van rental, food, gas, and extreme parking costs per day at your “in the world” hotel and at all theme parks, have now made Disney out of the box unaffordable. I don’t believe that was Walt’s intention…. We have no alternative but to stand in lines and leave after 7 days with memories of waiting till we can’t wait any longer and miss the ride completely. Sad that our family vacation with be fill with frustrated memories and beyond pissed that we spent all that money to go to Disney and enjoy our hotel more than the parks…if we weren’t shoulder deep in this vacation, I would cancel and take the family to Hawaii….
Go & have fun with your family. We have been to both Disney World & Aluni in Hawaii. Both are expensive, but the better value is Walt Disney World. So much to do. You will not have a similar experience at any other place. It is an incredible experience and I would embrace the opportunity to revisit Disney as often as possible. Hawaii was fun, but much more laid back. Not sure about paying to skip the lines. The lines can build up the ride experience and give the backstory to what you are about ride. I know you will create some life long memories for your grandchildren. Have fun!!!
If you go in with that attitude, you’re surely to ruin the trip for yourself and everyone else. You can still make it a fun and memorable trip, but only if you let go of this mindset. I agree that this is all frustrating, but it is what it is now.
Good grief! More bad news! What has come over this company the past few years? It is becoming less and less magical. After years of faithfully coming back, I am more and more considering just trying someplace else for my vacation.
This is ridiculous! How can a family afford to even pay for admission rates that keep rising and now on top of that you would have to pay for a fast pass.
Disney you need to lower all your rates instead of raising them add adding more.. Pretty soon your attendance will be lower than usual because of your greediness. This place does not feel magical anymore.
Sad ! It makes it much easier to now stay off Disney property as all the perks of staying on property have been taken away or just save that money and go to Hawaii!
Was anticipating the return of annual pass sales, but now they can keep it. I purchased a nine day pass which I would have upgraded to the annual pass, but this will be the last time I will be visiting Disney.
when I do go I’ll wait in the regular lines. The parking cost alone breaks the bank.
I think all this price gouging is a direct result from the new CEO. He has did nothing for WDW but lower its standards. Use to be the most magical place now it’s the most expensive place.
This is such a sad thing to see. We are the biggest Disney family but more and more we see the cost rating and taking away from the magic. Disney was known for making magic happen not pay for each piece of magic. This is awful. The price increase in the tickets was offset by the magical “free” things we received. Making Disney special and putting families first. Now we have price increases, parties are too expensive to attend and now we pay to reduce our time in line. Not Walts vision.
Having been to Disney World just recently, I will tell you that sadly the increase of costs really isn’t worth it. The “Magic” that everyone talks about is not there these days. All the parades are gone, to avoid crowds from gathering, the shows< that are running, are back to being Packed in despite the Pandemic. What good is a mask indoors and not outdoors, then pack you in like there is no Pandemic. Many of the hand sanitizers were empty, glad we brought our own ( suggested ) Most of the restaurants are closed and those that are open, the food has gone downhill. Having to pre – order your food via you phone ( I guess they feel that you have one, or that you want to pack it around while your on vacation, and then wait til they tell you your food is ready, only to have no where to sit and eat it, cuz people camp out in the air-conditioning. Oh and try to make a reservation, they are still booked weeks/months in advance, so good luck there! I have been passholder for over 6 years and have really seen the decline in the parks and I sad to say that have not stayed on property , which we always did since they starting charging parking, and gave up our Annual passes when they no longer were worth the cost. We went recently on the Florida Resident passes, but they too have lost their value. Use to have a Year to use up the days paid for, the it became a 6 months and now its less then two months and only in the late summer. School starts here in Mid August!! And Now this, you have to Pay for a Fastpass and Have to have your phone on your entire visit to even get anything. It has Lost the "Magic" for me. So Sad.
FREE Fastpass – It really is a perk that has set them apart in a good way. I have always thought that paid line-jumping in any park was junk. A one-day two-park ticket at Universal Orlando costs about $200 with tax. It is offensive that someone can pay an additional $89 (or whatever the current rate is for the chosen option) to skip the line when I just shelled out $1000 for the family of 5 to go. I don’t want to pay another $500 for the privilege of getting to ride the rides I just paid to ride. Same thing for Six Flags or Dollywood or Cedar Point or Kings Island. I hate the whole notion. That being said, I do believe in capitalism. I think that people will pay for something if they feel that it’s worth it. I really didn’t like Universal’s set up so I began buying Annual Passes to Disney World and dropped my passes at Universal. Kudos to Disney. People complain about Disney’s rising park ticket prices yet the park is still crowded. So apparently they aren’t overcharging. If the new Genie system is successful and profitable and results in guest satisfaction they will probably keep it. I personally hope that it isn’t. I don’t want to pay an addition $15 per day x 5 =$75 for my family to be able to get on rides in a timely manner. I won’t say it’s unfair – they aren’t making me buy it, but I may not purchase WDW APs next year if I feel my ticket has been drastically devalued. And really I’m just upset that they have gone to this approach. It is the premier theme park in the world. It was a better guest experience. I really never minded that VIP tours got to skip the lines. If you’re willing to shell out $700 an hour, I really don’t care. It’s only a handful of people and it makes very little impact on the overall wait time. But this $15 per person per day will undoubtedly make the standby line long.
Sure, all of the other parks had a line-skipping queue but that was not the case at Disney World. They had a fastpass queue, but it was free for everyone. It was a manner of spreading guests around the park. And an enjoyable perk to guarantee some E-ticket rides. It put Disney in a league of their own. I hope they don’t ruin the whole magical experience by adding up-charges to everything, but I feel like that’s the way it’s going.
C’mon guys, Walt must be turning in his grave.
You make enough already.
If you want people back, lower your prices.
A lot of folks would return again and again if your prices were less.
I’ll just to continue to wait in line like I always have. That is, of course, if I ever go again. The prices are so high now that many people will probably never be able to afford to go at all. I’m on Social Security now and there is NO WAY I could afford it anymore unless I took out a loan. Walt Disney’s dream for his parks has been taken over by GREED!
Shareholders need to speak up. Chapek is ruining it. Just cancelled trip. Now u make no money. Everyone can speak with their wallet and rise up against the greed and mismanagement.
So, in the past year, Disney has increased the cost at the hotels, increased the cost of food and increased the cost of admission. Add in you have to pay to park at the hotel (if you have a car or rent one), or you (will) have to pay for a Taxi, Limo, Uber/Lyft since Magic Express is being eliminated in 2022 and if you do not stay at a resort, you have to pay to park at the park.
There is no more Fast Pass, no Dining Plan (although they say it is coming back and it will be pricier), and no club level at the deluxe resorts.
NOW, they present their newest horror; Genie. They are going to make you pay for the free perk they took away, just like Magic Express, but make you FEEL like you are getting something with the “free” version of Genie, which tracks your itinerary. (Hint: MDE already does this…) Then they give you Genie Plus where you get the honor of paying for what was once free at a per person per DAY expense. And that is not all folks! You must pay MORE if you want a ride like 7DMT that was already a nightmare with FP! And then if you are REALLY elite and have nothing but money to burn, you can get Lightening Express.
I think Universal will be happy to take my money. Will cost me less than half to stay Premier at Universal than Deluxe at WDW
Partial refund on APs that could not be used for a year. New APs that could not be discounted renewals because of those refunds, but at a 40% increase in cost. Cancelation of Disney Express. Cancelation of FastPasses. Reduction of AP golf perks. Parking fees at resorts. Curtailed perks for DVC purchases from disgruntled owners. Live shows coming back with smaller casts and shorter presentations. Virtual queues thar open and fill during a screen “refresh”. Long walks from parking lots with canceled tram service. Reduced housekeeping services. Requirement of a smartphone to visit the parks, ride the rides and be able to eat on property. Cast members ignoring line jumping, even when posted policy prohibits joining parties already in the queue.
I am sure I missed some of the new disappointments, but this litany reads like the demise of a once great entertainment franchise.
Not worth it. They already charge an arm and a leg for tickets and now they want us to pay to not wait in line. Ridiculous. I think some more thought should have been put into this fee.
I hope Disney Execs are reading the overwhelming negative comments about their new idea “to improve the Disney expirience”…listen to the people Disney.
Everybody is overreacting big time. First of all, no one is being forced to pay extra. Just get in line! Plus, you DO NOT have to pay for Genie+ to be able to ride the top tier special Lightning Lane rides. RofR and Ratitoullie will be virtual clue anyway. The top tier passes give you a way to ride those if you miss out during the 7AM virtual cue rush! Like someone said earlier, I’m more ticked about the nightly hotel parking fee that I have no choice about!
Demand is the amount of people who visit the park. Supply is fixed based on square footage of the park for guest use coupled with amount of attractions. What Disney really needs to do is build a third park/resort in the United States, maybe Texas. The demand in the future needs to be spread out over 3 US locations. Genie + is a band aid approach and will fall short meeting the needs of the future.
Lots of folks will stop going to Disney Parks because of this. I don’t think this is going to worry Disney Inc. however. Too many people try to get in the parks and make it difficult for those that are there. This will effectively “cull” the herd without losing revenue. DIsney Parks are now an “elite” vacation and if you can’t afford it, too bad. It’s sad though.
Just keep in mind that Disney offers new “perks” all the time, usually at a lower fee. So while the new paid fastpass costs $15 NOW, I bet as soon as people except this cost it will rise $5‐$15 @ day within a year. So $15 now, $20 -$50 within 2 years. When the Tables of Wonderland (discount dining card for DVC and AP holders) it was $25 @ year, with a second, FREE card for a spouse or person of your choice. Then it was $50 + $$ for the second card. It isnow $125, and $75 for a second card. And as with our AP dinning discount can be used with less people. The first $25 card was good for a party of 10, and we could use thesecond card if we had a larger group by splitting thebill into 2 bills. Parking has gone up…Disney is money mad with Bob C in charge.
Also, while Universal has a paid pass charge they also have a greater discount on their after 6pm Annual pass. True it runs from January 1 to the end of December only, but it is a lot cheaper then our PAP is, even with the renewal discount. AND parking after 6pm isfree at Universal.
I can’t see Disney backtracking on these charges, the loyal vistors are no long their concern.
Sorry but this is getting to be ridiculous. I absolutely love Disney. I go at least once a year. This year I will be visiting 3 times but if they are going to continue this nickel and dime with people I honestly feel it is going to back fire on them and people are eventually gonna be fed up and stop going as often as they do or eventually stop going all together. I realize that it’s a business and the idea is to make money while providing entertainment for those that attend. There is a limit though to what people will pay. And I think Disney is slowly but surely pricing themselves out of some business. Also people are gonna have a real hard time understanding why they are having to pay for something that was free for so long. If it was costing Disney so much for the fast pass system then why not just eliminate it all together and let’s go back to how it was for decades and all just wait in line with no special lines for quicker wait times.
This is making it very expensive for families. Ordinary people who have saved for a few years are being squeezed out in favour of rich families who can afford to queue hop. I’m sure that’s not what Walt planned 50yrs ago
Time to BOYCOTT DISNEY, nothing will stop their GREED, unless everyone sticks together. Pay for a ticket, can’t even get on the ride without unless virtual queuing, etc. NOW IS THE TIME TO STOP THEIR GREED.
Last time we will visit will be next year, tide up in holiday and now facing rising bills i.e. dining pack. This was going to be our 25th wedding anniversary and daughters 21st, I tend not to let this leave a bad taste but having paid for the holiday, then told fast track has been removed is insulting, they should have honoured all those that have paid as this was part of the enticement. Not a feel good holiday anymore.
Our family reunion of 10 for 8 days over Christmas and New Year’s at DW just got cancelled because of Genie. My brother heard from another DVC member friend of theirs that they paid between $400-500 extra PER DAY for their family of 5 to ride the rides last week. Between that, the crowded lines, and lack of staff in restaurants, he convinced my dad to dump the trip. I already was afraid because of COVID. That wasn’t enough for my brother’s family to cancel. It was the money. This is ridiculous. We are big DVC members. Might not be soon.

So Sad.
Tamara
So if we are paying extra per certain rides, will the entrance fee be lowered so big families can afford and have fun, also?
Jolyth
Nope. You can lay money that the cost of admission will actually INCREASE

I would love to be able to purchase a Lightning Lane pass to expedite Chapek’s transition though the CEO office.
If Disney really wants to make $$, ask its DVC members, annual pass holders and general customers how much we’ll pay to get that clown fired.
Tlaw
If Genie is the new fast pass, then Chapek must be the new Jafar.
Hopefully he will be trapped in the bottle at the end of this terrible real life movie, and that the Genie will be free.
Chapek should watch more Disney movies to realize that greed never wins (at the end of the movie).

C’mon guys, Walt must be turning in his grave.
You make enough already.
If you want people back, lower your prices.
A lot of folks would return again and again if your prices were less.
Barbara Ervin
I totally agree. I guess next they’ll put in pay toilets!
G&C
Don’t give them any ideas!!
Barbara Ervin
I’ll just to continue to wait in line like I always have. That is, of course, if I ever go again. The prices are so high now that many people will probably never be able to afford to go at all. I’m on Social Security now and there is NO WAY I could afford it anymore unless I took out a loan. Walt Disney’s dream for his parks has been taken over by GREED!
Ken
Shareholders need to speak up. Chapek is ruining it. Just cancelled trip. Now u make no money. Everyone can speak with their wallet and rise up against the greed and mismanagement.
Jolyth
Shareholders are perfectly happy with this arrangement. This pays the mortgages on their 3rd vacation homes and their yachts.

James
I hope Disney Execs are reading the overwhelming negative comments about their new idea “to improve the Disney expirience”…listen to the people Disney.
DM
Everybody is overreacting big time. First of all, no one is being forced to pay extra. Just get in line! Plus, you DO NOT have to pay for Genie+ to be able to ride the top tier special Lightning Lane rides. RofR and Ratitoullie will be virtual clue anyway. The top tier passes give you a way to ride those if you miss out during the 7AM virtual cue rush! Like someone said earlier, I’m more ticked about the nightly hotel parking fee that I have no choice about!
Bill B.
Tony deLeo
Lots of folks will stop going to Disney Parks because of this. I don’t think this is going to worry Disney Inc. however. Too many people try to get in the parks and make it difficult for those that are there. This will effectively “cull” the herd without losing revenue. DIsney Parks are now an “elite” vacation and if you can’t afford it, too bad. It’s sad though.
Anthony
Yesterday I put 1 of my DVC contracts up for sale I will break all ties with Disney April 2022 after my last rental is finished
AMJ

Stand in line, wait you’re turn!
Pass it on.

Beverly A McManus
So here’s the thing…Disney was unique, now they are like any other theme park. Just my family’s take on it.
We won’t be going.
Bea
This is making it very expensive for families. Ordinary people who have saved for a few years are being squeezed out in favour of rich families who can afford to queue hop. I’m sure that’s not what Walt planned 50yrs ago
Kynan Hickman
Time to BOYCOTT DISNEY, nothing will stop their GREED, unless everyone sticks together. Pay for a ticket, can’t even get on the ride without unless virtual queuing, etc. NOW IS THE TIME TO STOP THEIR GREED.
Chris
Last time we will visit will be next year, tide up in holiday and now facing rising bills i.e. dining pack. This was going to be our 25th wedding anniversary and daughters 21st, I tend not to let this leave a bad taste but having paid for the holiday, then told fast track has been removed is insulting, they should have honoured all those that have paid as this was part of the enticement. Not a feel good holiday anymore.
Pam Tichy
Our family reunion of 10 for 8 days over Christmas and New Year’s at DW just got cancelled because of Genie. My brother heard from another DVC member friend of theirs that they paid between $400-500 extra PER DAY for their family of 5 to ride the rides last week. Between that, the crowded lines, and lack of staff in restaurants, he convinced my dad to dump the trip. I already was afraid because of COVID. That wasn’t enough for my brother’s family to cancel. It was the money. This is ridiculous. We are big DVC members. Might not be soon.
