Dude took it out of context. As a Black man I too am a part of an overly sensitive group of people when it comes to anything disparaging but this isnt it. Bob wasnt talking about Asian superheros as an experiment but just the way Marvel is delivering content which is new and they don’t know how its going to play out i.e, experiment. No need to always be so self righteous especially in this moment. Try not to get pissed off and you more than likely wont.
Agreed. That makes sense. He is just experimenting with the earnings of the movie and how the 45-day thing with Disney+ is going to work. I think he kind of took it out of proportion.
Simu plays the race card with everything. He literally got the role by ranting on Twitter for marvel to get an Asian superhero on screen. Ironically, being half Asian myself…not quite sure how playing a stereotypical martial arts character helps Asian representation. It just isn’t effective representation if its a stereotypical role.
Disney needs to pull back get to positive publicity, maybe this CEO should be considered for a different position, and get a strong leader to fix the Scarlet issue, Johnny Deep issue, and make movies. Make great decisions for the company and fans of Disney. What would Walt do?
Iron Man was an experiment because it was the first of the MCU. Avengers was an experiment because it was the first big superhero team up movie. Shang Chi is an experiment because of Covid.
Race, gender, nor sexual orientation has anything to do with any of them being experiments.
This is what happens when you make a CFO into a CEO, all the while the former CEO gets to run things behind the scenes. Numbers driven decisions which is not always the best course. Disney is trying to go back to the studios of the 40s which owned everything from the artist, the movie, and the distribution.
Took it out of context. Don’t know the actor but seems like he just wanted an excuse to be heard get some press. His opinion is a non starter Hope the movie is entertaining.
Outta Context – Chapek was CLEARLY only discussing the release strategy – NOT the film. But that is what you get when a true Creative is not in charge of a company. A business person who only thinks in business terms is usually unable to speak as clearly as necessary for both business folk and creatives.
I think Jung is trying to build his own hype so the movie will get extra media exposure. This is not a well known Marvel character. If they expect a sequel or series of sequels, they are going to need a lot more publicity than this.

I totally agree hes wasn’t saying anything about shang chi being an experiment he was talking about experimenting with new ways to deliver content
Kat
I agree that the experiment is about how the movie is being released not the film itself. This dude needs to get over himself and not overreact.
