This is a real loss as there is not another true steakhouse on the Disney property. Yes you can get a steak at Napa Rose, Catal but that’s about it and the selection is maybe a single filet.
But also this is a loss of history as well. Even before Grandville’s there was the El Vaquero steak house at the front of the old Disneyland Hotel. (The other loss was the seafood restaurant the Shipyard Inn where Tangaroa Terrace is now.)
I too wonder what will go in there, maybe just another family restaurant or perhaps they will contract out with Patina Group.
The last time I ate there it was Grandville’s a long time ago. Yes the prices were high (always) but that’s what a great steak costs anywhere and it’s common to charge for all the sides. And truth be told, most high-end steak houses make most of their money on alcohol and the sides, their profit on a steak is very little.
Another article states the PCH Grill is permanently and will be taken over by outside party. So I’m sure we will see that happen with SH55.
More CMs gone!
The one thing missing at TDH is a late night lounge to unwind before calling it a day. The bar at CGH is brilliant for that. Same at Wilderness Lodge etc. Trader Sam’s is hectic and fun, but there’s nowhere to go at DLH except your room.
Yes true. Years ago they did have great places to have a late night drink. The glass elevator to the Top of the Park, Shipyard Inn had outside seating around the marina, the old Monorail Bar and more.
I am so sad and disappointed that Steakhouse 55 won’t reopen. My family has dined in the restaurant many times. The ambiance, the service, the food are all top notch. The bar area is amazing as well. Rudy the bartender was hands down the one that made the cocktails an experience. I am so sad
Yet another terrible, terrible decision by Disney’s executive team, who have ZERO idea of what guests want, despite all their ridiculous surveying. I’ve never been to Steakhouse 55 and not had a long wait and seen it completely full. *Yet another* reason not to go back to Disneyland.
Very, very sad to see Steakhouse 55 is gone. I’m 65 years old and I dined at the restuarant in TDH since I was a kid. We have taken my daughter there for birthdays, graduations and special occasions since she was a baby. It was a great steak house. The food was always perfect and the service was top notch. Nice place to relax after a long day at the Park. Historic as well with all the beautiful black and white, huge photos of movie stars. It is a real loss. People need to realize maintaining some of the original part of the park is important. Everything new and modern is not always the best choice. There is comfort in nostalgia.
I dined at Steakhouse 55 often. Got to know the staff very well, and they always went out of their way for me. With DLR no longer offering a true steakhouse on property, I will now have to start getting to know the staff at Morton’s down the street.
This is extremely sad news. Disney just keeps making harder and harder to keep family trip traditions alive. Steak House 55, Me and my daughter’s place. I’m just glad she is grown now, and was able to enjoy while she was growing up.
After a several bad experiences at Blue Bayou, we had replaced our traditional “dining night” there with Steakhouse 55. We had one bad experience there with a large, unexpected party showing up before us, but they took good care of us and we were comped a couple of meals and offered free dessert. Sad to hear that they won’t be reopening.
So very sad to see it close. Loved going to Steakhouse 55. Always enjoyed the great breakfasts, dessert menu, steaks, and the longtime waiters and staff. They were attentive and funny, and had lots of history to share of the restaurant.
This is very sad news. We would always have at least one breakfast there and usually a dinner. That restaurant was full of nostalgia with those large photos of old Hollywood stars. Someone suggested converting it to The Brown Derby which is a perfect idea!

I really hope they stop contracting out to outside groups and a good steakhouse should be left here, but the pricing need some major adjustments.

Another crap decision by Disneyland management.
I really had high hopes for Ken Potrock but it seems his CEO is rubbing off on him.

So sad to hear of this closing! I had my 50th birthday dinner at Steakhouse 55 and it was a memorable dinner. 🙁
