Given the strong objections to the retheme, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see it quietly cancelled.
Personally, I would love to see the Disney World version stay as Splash and Disneyland’s be rethemed since Disney World’s version of Splash is so much better. And that way, we still get Splash, but eliminate a duplicate ride.
Hopefully NEVER! With all the petitions to save the ride combined, there’s over 100,000+ customers AGAINST this change. The petition to re-theme only had 21,350 signatures…that goes to show how unpopular this decision is. Leave this classic ride alone! I hope Disney has realized the huge mistake they’re making and that this is quietly canceled.
I have to agree with the other commenters here… I love the idea of a Princess and the Frog ride but frankly NOT in place of Splash Mountain. Splash Mountain has been a staple attraction for years and is now a classic. The lines for this ride are always super long especially in summer. I think Disney jumped too quickly to announce a retheme with the threats of cancel culture. I’m pretty sure most Disney fans would say they love Splash and the only ones who call for it’s demise are a few social media frequenters. I hope Disney listens to the fans who love this ride.
If the re theme of Splash Mountain from Song of the South to The Princess and the Frog did happen next year or in 2023 or in 2024 and after construction for the new re theme is completed and if everyone didn’t show up to see the new re theme then not only everyone is not going to ride the new re theme and stop going to Disneyland and Walt Disney World but Disney is going to be felt a little bit of guilt.
Because during this four year process of finding a closing date for Splash Mountain along with the planning and building for the new re theme of Splash Mountain what Disney didn’t know is that they are participating not only in this re theme but in this event that went so wrong during the COVID 19 pandemic in 2020.
For me I think it’s going to be like Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion Disaster.
Because on that day Morton Thiokol rocket engineer Roger Boisjoly and his team knew that January 28th,1986 wasn’t a good day to fly and tried to warn Nasa Managers and the Nasa Managers tried to warn not only the press along with the firing room but mission control as well. Because during the Teacher in Space contest that took two years everyone didn’t know about the O-Ring problem until on the 28th of January on that everyone felt a little bit of guilt because everyone had participated in this event that went so wrong. I bet the Challenger accident is a good lesson to learn for not only Nasa but the public as well about being in a rush to put a Teacher in space. Not only that but both human and material failures created the disaster.
Hopefully they will pull back on this idea. Tiana and the gang deserve a restaurant or an attraction, but not at the expense of a ride that people already love the way it is.

When the Disney Fans, Disney Park guest and you tubers on YouTube heard the announcement on June 25th 2020 that Disney is going to re theme Splash Mountain from Song of the South to The Princess and the Frog not only they are having a problem with the new re theme but they think that it’s not a good idea to re theme their favorite Disney ride that they’ve been riding on for a long time. Not only that, the public not only do not like the re theme but they wrote to Disney and tried to decline for not doing the re theme.
For me this is a big publicity stunt to get Disney’s attention and focus it to the public.
I suspect it’s going to be quite awhile before this gets off the floor (if at all). In the budget for 2021, the retheme was taken off the table. Nothing has been done since then. The design work cannot even start until at least 2022. Unless it’s pushed off again. The work cannot proceed until the designs are complete and approved.
rides/attractions dont last forever! be glad u got to experience splash mountain and give princess and the frog a chance! i love splash mountain too but petitions? really?
A petition started this whole mess – it makes sense a petition was made in favor to save it. The one to save it happens to be much more popular then then the one used as part of the basis to retheme.

Not only that both human and company not listening to the public and racism and concept art failures created the disaster for the re theme of Splash Mountain.
For me I think it’s going to be like Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion Disaster.

I know Disney is not in a rush to do the re theme. But in my opinion this is what is going to be like.
Not only that, this is probably not going to share the same success as the Tower of Terror re theme or even the Paradise Pier re theme did.
Not just in terms of reception and for 2020 being a weird year but the amount of money that the Walt Disney Company has lost.
Disney has lost a lot over 1.4 Billion Dollars during the Coronavirus Pandemic. Also during the Pandemic 28,000 Disney cast members got layoff because of this virus that’s been going on since March.
On the other hand. The other mountains be size Splash Mountain like Thunder, Space and Matterhorn that are over 30, 40, 50, or 60 years old are just too expensive to be re themed into something else.
Do you remember The Tower of Terror re theme to Mission Breakout along with the Paradise Pier re theme to Pixar Pier at Disney’s California Adventure. Well after 10 or 15 years of being in operation and after those two got their re theme they made 3 times its reviews.
So the Splash Mountain re theme to Princess and the Frog was definitely a step back. You can tell by The Princess and the Frog concept art that Disney is running out of ideas for future re themes for Disney attractions.
If Splash Mountain gets re themed into The Princess and the Frog then a lot of Disney Park fans including Splash Mountain fans would get so mad and not go on the ride and everyone will stop going to Disneyland and Walt Disney World because this is one of their favorite attractions when they go to the Disney Parks.
Other than that a lot of angry people will get Disney to sign a contract to not aloud anymore classic attractions getting re themes in the Disney Parks after Walt Disney’s work.
Princess Tiana deserves a restaurant and her own ride on Tom Sawyer Island at the Magic Kingdom once Disney gets enough money to retheme Tom Sawyer Island, due to COVID concerns.
#SaveSplashMountain
Instead of retheming Splash Mountain, Disney could make Splash Mountain thematically fit within Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom by retheming either Splash Canyon or Western River Expedition
I think a ride or restaurant for Princess Tiana is fine but not at the expense of Splash Mountain. Splash mountain is one of,if not the most popular ride in Magic Kingdom. Like the song says Ev’rybody has a Laughing Place. Please don’t take it away!!!
Wow, there is a petition to keep it? I know plenty who would sign it. Maybe it’s outdated but it’s the nostalgia that brings people back wanting to show their children and grandchildren. And for those that sang those songs I think it’s a disservice to them. What better way to honor those actors and actresses. By discontinuing the ride and those songs those individuals regardless of what connotations people may or may not think the movie represents those actors and actresses are forgotten and archived forever. Create a new ride by all means but as long as the headcount is there then why change it. Only when the numbers go down would there be a business case to change it. Keep please

Let’s not forget that Tokyo has already declined the retheme.

Just end re-theme and leave it alone. There’s nothing wrong with the ride. It’s popular as ever. #SaveSplashMountain
