I’d like to see what the numbers were for the paid streaming views on Disney+. The other point is I wonder how many Disney+ subscribers are just waiting for it to become “free” in a month or two.
I personally don’t think “box office” numbers are as important as they once were.
But considering we had the Cap-shirt girls for TEN YEARS saying “I’m only interested in seeing the Black Widow movie, Marvel needs more representation for the girls!” since Iron Man 2 (and that before Captain Marvel stole all the demographic-symbol pander), I think the expression is, “…Happy now?” 😉
I read you article about the box office figures for BLACK WIDOW. At the end of your article you mistakenly failed to mention SHANG CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TWELVE RINGS-which comes out in September-and THE ETERNALS-which comes out in November…both of which are official Marvel Studios films that will be released before the next SPIDER-MAN film.
I definitely was coming on here to comment the same exact thing! These writers never do research at all! THE MCU! Has something going on almost every month, also it’s unconfirmed but rumor has it that Venom movie will tie into the MCU somehow too!
Whoever wrote this clearly doesn’t follow the MCU very closely. There are two movies before Spider-Man comes in December. Shang-chi in September and the eternals in November.
Journalism is truly dead. We’re in the middle of a global pandemic. I’ve been to the theater 4 times in the past 8 days in 2 major cities and each time, the theater was a ghost town. Despite that, theaters and shoddy journalists want to try and convince people with brains that movies are failing and making comparisons to movies than came out when there was no pandemic… Sad. Black Widow has done exceptionally well given the circumstances. Ask zols and Snake Eyes how that theater only approach is treating them. Context is key.
The figures are in the eye of the beholder.
Tenet was also released during the pandemic. It was certainly not Nolan’s best work (which is not just my opinion but in review scores).
So, an middle of the road Nolan matches Black Widow, and that’s a success?
how do you compare a spin off movie to two movies that took a decade to build up to. No other marvel movie will compare to either Infinity Wars or End Game, must be a joke
You want to talk numbers??? First account for the extra number of clients that purchased Black Widow off Disney plus then figure in the number of household members and then you have a more accurate number of possible tickets sold.. Good for the family but terrible for the loyal Disney/Marvel employee who fought for 10 years to get her own movie….think about it
Absolutely agree, I keep seeing this story of how the film failed. Some cities around the world are still in lockdown, and with streaming platforms becoming a frontrunner for ways people view movies we have to stop measuring success of a movie by this measure especially comparing them to post Covid releases and as others have said, comparing it to avengers infinity which was a film 10 years in the making completing an arch for Thanos and other MCU characters, it doesn’t compare!

$60 million in rentals. That’s fantastic.
