This is a new level of entitlement for these people. If you knew enough about D23 to know about this event, you’d have known the difference between a D23 free and gold membership. It says right there when you sign up that gold members have access to exclusive events. Tickets to an event selling out isn’t something new in the year 2021, people would camp out at ticket centers overnight for a chance at tickets to something and there was a cutoff to those at some point as well. So if you bought a membership and didn’t get one of the limited tickets, that’s not Disney’s problem, it’s a problem of lacking common sense.
Well this certainly helps explain why I couldn’t get hotel reservations this time. In the early days tickets for this event was available for months. The last one celebrating Mickey’s 50th sold out but was available for a while. Don’t know if they reduced attendance or just so much pent up demand that this sold out so quickly. Yet tickets for tonight’s D23 jungle cruise film we’re available for several weeks without selling out. Did purchase a single ticket this morning but where I have always been able to make a reservation for a monorail hotel while the event was on couldn’t get in to do that today, so will be taking my hotel money to an off site hotel.
To spend $99 plus shipping, handling, and tax which comes to about $118 just for the chance to TRY to get a ticket to the D23 event is something you need to research. You get a lot for your membership! I’ve seen some spectacular events that were solely for D23 members like me, a first year gold member, that I would not have gotten to see otherwise. I got chances to buy certain merchandise not available to everyone. I got a terrific fun o’fun stuff that comes every year with the membership. I get a beautiful quarterly magazine! I am sure I forgot something but my point is this: you didn’t get “NOTHING” for your membership! Sure, I wanted to go to the D23 event too but I was really ticked off because even though I called D23 HQ they wouldn’t tell me how much the exclusive D23 member Contemporary Hotel price would be. When I saw that the rooms START at over $450 per night I said HELL NO and decided not to even try to go. I assumed any discount would be in the $50 to maybe $100 range and that for the two of us to go the night before, the event, the hotel, food, buy some fun stuff, would be a couple of thousand dollars. I can’t afford that, very few of us can, and maybe one day I’ll get to go to an actual D23 event in person but I’m not holding my breath.

I was able to get a ticket but my friend was not. Don’t want to go by myself. Now what?!
